Uricas: Uricas: kavey10: Yes, like urgent need to see doctor when sick or accident cases. HMO is Health Maintenance Organisation. They are private or public incorporated company registered by the NHIS solely to manage the provision of healthcare service through NHIS accredited Health Care Providers (hospitals). They are the middle men between NHIS and the Health Care Providers and enrollees. UNIBEN and Obafemi Awolowo University are both using Wise Health services ltd as their HMO. Their address is Ayantomi house, 1709 Olugbosi cresent off bishop oluwole steet, victoria island, lagos. Or 27, is ababa crescent, wuse, zone 4, abuja. Enrollees' beneficiary rights • During registration, individuals have the right to choose any primary health care provider(PHCP) of his/her choice • A registered enrollee would be empowered with NHIS identity card/patient card for easy access to his/her PHCP • A subscribed enrollee has the right to present card at the chosen HCP when they fall sick • A subsribed enrollee has the right to qualitative health care providers without making any payment except 10% co-payment at the point of collection of drugs • A subscribed enrollee is entitled to referral services from their PHCP and also from a secondary HCP to a Tertiary HCP as contained in th NHIS benefit package • A subscribed enrollee has the right to change provider to another PHCP of his/her choice after six(6) months • A subscribed enrollee who is dissatisfied with services rendered to him/her HCP has th right to make formal complaint to his/her HMO/NHIS • A subcribed enrollee who falls ill outside his station has the right to access care from any NHIS accredited provider in that location upon presentation of NHIS identity card. The HMO covering that subscribed enrollee would later reimburse the HCP. 1 Like 2 Shares |

upmanagers:can you help me with the number of 'Arewa Health Maintenance Services?' The one you gave earlier is for staff only. I got this from my enrolle card and I think it should be the HMO for students but the number on it isn't going through. |

My topic for our inhouse training coming up in december 2014 is the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Program (TISHIP). Am raeding towards it but just to make sure am totally ready for it I will appreciate any question concerning NHIS's TISHIP. If you have any question concerning other programs you can keep them coming. Am pleased to annouce the mobile health known as National Mobile Health Insurace Programme (NMHIP). Its is here to replace the VCSHIP which was N15,000. NMHIP is N12,000 annually. Was launched on 21st july, 2014. For now only MTN user can subcite to it but we are hoping thhat pretty soon other network providers will join. Dial *616# with you MTN line. |

When will VCSHIP be scrapped finally? |
Re: Nhis(national Health Insurance Scheme) by Kcinho(m): 7:39pm On Sep 25, 2014 |
What are the advantages one enjoys using NHIS as they cover only cheap drugs and investigations? As these can be paid for easily by those not using the scheme |

Gboliwe: When will VCSHIP be scrapped finally? No more VCSHIP in lagos as the mobile health has taken over, gradually same will happen in other state of the federation. Kcinho: What are the advantages one enjoys using NHIS as they cover only cheap drugs and investigations? As these can be paid for easily by those not using the scheme What you call cheap cannot be afforded by many nigerians. Anyway, they are generic drugs and like branded drugs they work. I posted d benefits of nhis earlier so you can scroll back to check them |

What you refer to as "cheap drugs and investigations" is the same thing that kill one. What you term cheap may not be cheap for your neigbour. These generic drugs cure illnesses. |

These generic drugs cure illnesses.Nobody said the drugs don't cure illnesses. Most patients that come to the hospitals can afford those drugs and investigations without the NHIS. So it seems they are not losing anything outside the cover of the scheme. The two groups still have problem with paying for the more expensive drugs and investigations. There are a lot of limitations also e.g number of offsprings to register, age of offsprings to register, restriction of healthcare to the hospital of registration, 21 admission days a year, low priced lenses etc. Have you wondered the reason the scheme has not been effective. 2 Likes |

Kcinho:So, of what use is a branded drug when generic drugs can handle an issue? Is illness a thing of pride to showcase one's wealth? If Panadol can do the job why take diclofenac? Well, let me try and answer your other fears. Firstly, to those who use it, the scheme is super effective and that's why there's a serious clamour to include more sets of people. Secondly, "restricting" one to a particular hospital is for routine/regular check-up NOT when there's an emergency. There's also an option of using other facilities when your primary facility can't handle an issue/case Thirdly, the scheme catering for a family of six as maximum is standard. Thought the government adviced for a "father, mother, 4 children" family standard and concerning their ages, it is believed that at over 18yrs when the family package cannot cover the child anymore, he is either in school being covered under Tship package or peharps married and utilising his/her own family package. Fourtly, the 21 days inpatient attendance is an accumulated stay and not a stretch off thing. Hope you know that. All these are for proper organisation. You may want to look up how other countries with a similar scheme operate. Low priced lenses? I think its the frames you are talking about. Nhis will give you your perfect lenses in a not cosmetic frame. That is, they won't give you designer frmaes or in contact lens. Isn't that fair enough? 2 Likes |

Gboliwe: So, of what use is a branded drug when generic drugs can handle an issue? Is illness a thing of pride to showcase one's wealth? If Panadol can do the job why take diclofenac?I'm not against the use of those drugs cos I use them too, what I'm against is when a patient's sensitivity result comes out and the only drug that can be used according to the sensitivity is meronem and the scheme can't provide that for him obviously because its expensive. Imagine a situation where I travel to another state and suddenly feel abnormal (malaise) which obviously is not an emergency, I will have to wait till I return to see a doctor. A stroke patient who stays above three weeks in the hospital has to take care of herself after the third week and any other time of admission till the next year right, meanwhile most of the investigations like the CT scan or MRI needed to manage this patient are not covered by the scheme. In a situation I have five children, I'll have to chose which of them that won't benefit from the scheme. Let's say I'm an 18yr old jambite, no NHIS for me till I get an admission, when we know a lot of jambites are above 18. I don't think the TSHIP back in school even had cover for ultrasound an x-ray because my classmates had to pay their bills when they had an accident. A friend of mine currently covers a private hospital that runs the scheme and always complains of the way his hands are tied when he tries to give his patients adequate basic healthcare from investigations, admissions to drug prescription and administration. Most of his patients are referred to another private where they pay from their pockets. The National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria has a lot of loopholes that have to be fixed. 8 Likes |

Thank you Gwoliwe, well said. @ kcinho, other benefit of nhis toy may be looking for are 1. In emergency cases you would be taken care of in any accredited facility so when you are not around your chosen HCF you still have access to healthcare anywhere in Nigeria. 2. As an enrolee through OPS and federal government job you can add unlimited family members under you in any part of nigeria with their own choice of facility 3. With your card, their is no need for down payment before any enrollee is been attented to. No need for payment on hospital card and consultations. You may have enough to takecare of yourself and your family but just as Gwoliwe has said earlier, what you term as cheap is actually a miracle to some other. The last time I was in my hcf, a woman also brought her very sick baby who may just be about 5months, when she was told the amount for just card and consultation, it wasn't even up to what she had. How then can people in that situation manage? |

Happy New Year! Does NHIS cover ENT surgery such as Adenoidoctomy, Tonsility and Sinus surgery?. Because at Federal Staff Hospital, Jabi-Airport Road, Abuja. They always insist that as NHIS enrolle, one must pay 4K before you be attended to by ENT specialist at the Hospital. I spoke my HMO - United Heaith Care, they seem not knowing what to do. And I need to urgently see the ENT specialist for my baby. What can be done now? Thanks 1 Like |
