Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by Seun(m): 7:31pm On Nov 14, 2007
Hello,

Do you know how much it costs to buy air-time on AIT, STV, NTA, Galaxy TV, LTV, et cetera? Even OGTV or any other station? For example, if you want to place a show on prime-time (8pm to 10pm on weekdays)?

What about BEN TV in the UK? This information will be useful to upcoming TV producers.

Thanks!

Thanks, wham. Wow!

- Is this high price normal or is it because the NTA isn't just a TV station but a TV network? shocked

- Is it a monthly fee, yearly fee, quarterly fee, or a fee to be paid for each individual time slot used?

Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by uzomaeze(m): 7:18am On Nov 15, 2007

NTA consider themselves the largest TV ntwork in Africa.

Theve gone International. You could start with the local stations or one of the other Networks like Silverbird or Channels.

If your prog is good enough u would soon be able to convince sponsors who are ready to pay good cash.

Advertising is costly (Millions)
Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by rufaai(m): 9:15am On Nov 15, 2007
WOW! shocked

Up to .75 Million for just 30mins one time show! - I hope the show is Nationwide not just a local TV Show, I know understand why NTA gets so much money cheesy

na wah o. so this tv program is really expensive. but what if a show has no sponsors, i mean no coy is advertising on the show, that becomes a great loss. but who determines the price that would be paid for the advert, the person presenting the show or the the tv station, and who gets the money? i beg educate me on this
Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by ndubest(m): 11:59am On Nov 15, 2007
WOW, shocked shocked shocked so this station make all these mega money?

and still there are issues of staff welfare not being taken care of
i think its high time they should start paying their viewers to watch their programme smiley smiley smiley (just joking)

anyway thats too bad for upcoming producers especially if you dont get sponsors

Seun,
As a former independent producer on NTA and DBN TV, I can tell you that there are no fixed rates for television drama and local produced movies, because NTA can even sponsor the production of your drama or entertainment programme.

Those saying only NTA is global are ignorant of the facts.

You can watch Silverbird TV, Galaxy TV, MiTV and Lagos TV live 24/7 all over the world and for as little as $12 plus, you can watch all the 5 Nigerian TV Channels online.
You can watch the previews now on my Nigerian Times blog, including Nollywood videos.

I can show any Nigerian TV or film production all over the world 24/7.

NTA has gone international, but how many people are watching NTA abroad?
NTA presently does not have the programmes to even compete with SABC.
NTA needs programmes of world class standard and they even travel to shop for programmes.

Go to NTA and meet with the key bodies in person.
Even their advert rates are negotiable.

If you are interested in NTA Port Harcourt, Rivers state, I can assist.
I can give you the name of one of the Directors of Programmes by e-mail.

I wish you all the best.

I amazed at how things could be so expensive,

even inspite of the launching of satellites in space ,yet the cost of these services are still very high in nigeria,

Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by hafees: 11:10am On Nov 16, 2007
well thank God its in the open now that air time are expensive, another way to go about all this is to have a negotiatiation with the station as put on air first and then have sharing formula once the programme starts making money. this is essentially done for producers who are already well known. Seun never say die
Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by uchetobi(f): 12:16pm On Nov 16, 2007
Too expensive man
Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by sleekymag(m): 6:13pm On Nov 16, 2007
Seun, the other option would be to go on a barter arrangement with the TV station in question. I'm not sure NTA network does barter, but a whole lot of other stations do barter. At least i know of AIT, G65, Silverbird, MBI, Galaxy, and even TV stations outside Lagos. Buying airtime is really expensive as has been said on this thread. Most of these TV stations look for qualitative content programming to be compiled for a given quarter. If your programme is good and bound to generate dedicated viewership, the TV station could collect your programme without collecting a dime from you. However, depending on agreement on the terms of the barter, you would be required to market the programmes to attract sponsorship and/or advert placements. The proceeds from this would be shared in a formula stipulated by the agreement e.g 60:40 ratio or 70:30, whichever way it goes.

Hello sleekymag. I was hoping something like that was possible. I guess the key is to have a really great show.
Re: Cost Of Buying Air Time For A TV Show? by Nobody: 11:45am On Nov 17, 2007
NTA might not be near the standards SABC, but it sure does command a very large audience among Nigerian people.
Unlike the AIT and others that airs only in few cities, NTA cuts across the whole country and beyond.
I don't think shows like SUPER STORY would have been a success story if it were only aired on AIT and SILVERBIRD.
i don't watch NTA though, but these are the facts.

@seun
As you are searching for cheaper TV stations, make NTA your priority.

Dont attempt a nationwide or global trasmission of your programme, yet. Start small. Don't go NTA; it is best watched outside Lagos. People in Lagos dont really watch NTA. Do MBI, STV or G65. When they programme has attracted a large audience, advertisers will be the ones that will ask you to take it to the next level.

Words of wisdom from Orikinla. Prices are not cast in concrete. When you have shot your 1st series, go to these stations with a few episodes and seat with the programmes director and have a chat; na you start Nairaland so no shaking grin grin grin

take a look at many of those TV drama, how many of them cn pay 750k for 30mins? Flatmate fit pay that kain money?

Find out before you arrive at such misleading conclusion. You don't need to be told how many audience Flatmates control and how much Kayode Peters makes out of every 3o munites. even though the production is very poor.
