wait!
Gowon was actually in SW yesterday and he chose a mere birthday to the burial of his servant?!!!
Now, this is the height of it
I'm shocked o. I guess Gowon just like every right thinking person does not want to be identified with Ode.kunle. So much for use and dump.

I wonder why ibos are comparing adekunle to ojukwu. Why not compare ojukwu to obasanjo? That will make a better comparison.

Ojukwu is far more respected and worshipped by ibos than Adekunle could ever dream to get from any Yoruba, for him to even be acknowledged shows he was important to the Nigerian side of the war(not to Yoruba). He is just a brave Yoruba man doing his work but he's not a Yoruba saviour ojukwu was to ndigbo, please let this inane comparison stop.

Why did the FG abandon him then if he were national? There is nothing national about the burial, no news report too.
FG Sacked him from the army and the lazy punk couldn't find anything to do himself.
Where you sleeping when he was begging for money to go to Ghana? No help came to him.

God bless the Black Scorpion. Red necks rolled your coffin and your soul was honored with a 21-gun salute. Your labor is not in vain. It shall not be in vain.

I did not see Federal presence from the Nigerian side. I did not see Gowon. I did not see OBJ. I did not see IBB. I did not see Danjuma. I did not see the Nigeria he was important or a hero for as u put it.

The guy is an idi.ot... look at his mouth and 21 gun salute... 21 gun salute are reserved not for military personnel, unless he was at one time the president. Enlisted personal get three gun volleys, not a salute. (Here's a section on military.about.com)

This is the interment of a pauper. Adekunle was born poor, he lived poor and died poor. He tried to lift himself from poverty by stealing from the Ports Authority, he was caught and fired. Since then he has been a pariah to everyone, including Yorubas. What a pauper.

A lot of civil war soldiers die everyday, not many get giving state burials like Adekunle and Ojukwu. Adekunle does not have the political relevance that ojukwu had but I am very sure that when someone with as much political relevance die you will see the politicians there.

Ibos follow ojukwu so its natural to see politicians fussing over his dead body to buy the backing of his followers.

You guys are selling yourselves cheap to compare Ojukwu with this man.

All of a sudden ojukwu is more relevant than adekunle.
You were all whining mouths about how important he was till this burial when its clear he is a nonentity.
Why couldn't a man that achieved so much join politics? Why was he sacked?

. . . and Ojukwu will be remembered by posterity as the only "general" that abandoned his army and fled for 12 years.

Warreva. Ojukwu at least wasn't a genocidal nutcase looking for any particular tribe to shoot.

What do you call a guy who would rather take weapons than foods to feed the people he supposedly loved.

Do you take all Yoruba people on nairaland as one single entity?

By the way, I never said Ojukwu was more relevant than Adekunle as humans but Ojukwu enjoyed the patronage of his fellow tribesmen something Adekunle doesn't have not because was any less relevant than Ojukwu as a man.

U aren't making sense at all. A retired military man whose action during the civil war led to the early defeat of biafran miscreants died and service chiefs are all represented yet u are saying there aren't federal presence. Are u ok at all? How many dead military men ever have such honour?

You wrote "IfIf actually he fled..."

are you denying the fact that he did flee?

I am sure that deep down inside all of you all, you have read that he saw but didn't last in ala Igbo) but still you come to make mouth (like he did) that he was a warrior ..this and that.... whereas all he was, was a mouth making, fleeing coward....

and i'll answer your question, once you admit your (pre) knowledge of him fleeing battle front upon sight of Igbo men with sticks and cutlass!
0merta:

actually he fled, why are you and your fellow Igbos, dead and alive still hating on him even in death?

you guys' trickery is classic!

when has any difference between Igbo women and children versus niger-delta women and children been made?

The thing is that Igbos are too complicated for your cone heads to understand.... so anything they say, you twist it around and then try to shoot it down, ut even in your trickery.... as I say to you and your likes... Igbo man pass una gods, before yous tart, you've already failed!
Aigbofa:

That is the question. One minute the man never got to iboland, next minute he killed ibo women and children.

are you saying you have 0 knowledge what happened when Adekunli arrived the center of Igbo land?

he suddenly magically disappeared and re-appeared in PH?

Or are you just trying to be smart or something?

You want links?
OrlandoOwoh:

The only person that fled was Ojukwu. Adekunle never fled. There was a change in the command of the 3 divisions of the army on May 12, 1969.
-Col. Illya Bissalla relieved Col. Muhammed Shuwa as the GOC of the First Division.
-Col. Gibson Jallo relieved Col. Ibrahim Haruna as the GOC of the Second Division.
-Col. Olusegun Obasanjo relieve Col. Benjamin Adekunle as the GOC of Third Marine Commando.

Gowon and Obasanjo are also war heros; highly respected by both parties in the conflict and less controversial. Meanwhile Adekunle who played a smaller role is vilified by a section of the country to the extent that few people associated with him before his death. The big question is how do you do your job? Sometimes, result is not the most important aspect of every task.
