Sorry for this post, just my own personal position on BMS(Anatomy and Phyiology expecially) as a discipline.
Course of study is not proportional to being a successful man in life because B.Sc itself (and other equivalents) is not a guarranttee to successful life bt education itself has more to offer than wealth(riches in particular) that majority of the Nigeria students aim.
Physiology as a field of study is as good as you've written it up there but is that not like a theoretical aspect of a study?
Have u you taken time to study the the body(ies) and journals of this body(ies)? Students' Physiological Asoociation of Nigeria (SPAN)?? Physiological Society of Nigeria (PSN)?
Who are their lecturers in the tertiary institutions?
To my own best knowledge, theoretically, physiology is of great importance to human medicine but what of if it should stand alone?
As you've a good write up there for human physiology likewise u will get it done for plant physiology(it's a course in FUNAAB) if the need arise.
Course of study is not what really matters for achievement in life (If those that are not educated at all can make it, education should be added advantage.)but personal enthusiasm.
Note: an action is good if it benefits someone and an action is bad if it harms some one but act utilitarianism is the belief that an action is good if its overall effect is to produce more happiness than unhappiness i.e. It benefit more people.
Just personal opinion on the topic.

First of all, I really appreciate your efforts for taken your time to enlighten us more on this.
I guess we are both saying the same thing. But, I beg to differ as regards the notion of physiology being a theoretical field. Physiology is a practical science, which equips students with laboratory and transferable skills. And the transferable skills gained through studying a physiology degree (such as communication, team work and organisation) considerably extend the career opportunities available to physio graduates.
Should physiology stand alone? Yes. In fact, as it is currently taught at the university level, it is already a stand-lone discipline. But, it could also be a part of an integrated degree, such as Biomedical Sciences. As a stand-alone degree It doesn't depend on Medicine to make progress, rather, Medical breakthroughs depend on the progress of Physiology being an experimental science.
I think what is being misunderstood is the distinction between theory and hypothesis. In common usage, "theory" may mean a guess or hypothesis, something that is tentative or speculative. But in science a theory is a synthesis of a large body of validated information (e.g., cell theory or quantum theory). The value of a theory is its usefulness (not its "truth" ). I hope this clarifies my position on physiology as field of study?

But theoretical concepts have always being the forerunners of whatever eventually turns out to be obtainable realistically.
I think theoretical knowledge is essential. Past ideas are essential. Knowledge and ideas that have coalesced into THEORY are some of the most beautiful creations of the human race. Without Maxwell's equations, you can spend a lifetime fiddling with radio equipment and never invent radar. Without dynamic programming, you can code for days and not even build a sudoku solver.
So theory in the field of sciences connotes a framework that paves way for usefulness and not reality in its everyday usage.

As for me, honestly, I am in no position tell you anything about chemical Engineering at Unilorin,
for I am neither a student there nor a member of the staff.
But I can tell you that the course outlines for various courses out there are OGBONGE(authentic)
which I think CHEM Eng is not an exception. Except the course outlines are there for gimmickry.
And I think hostel shouldn't be your problem but the proverbial TANKE, what that means I honestly don't know.
But we've been seriously warned against facing the nightmarish Tanke.
Am so sorry for being completely clueless as regards your question.

Nevertheless it will be necessary to point out the fact that practical courses been attached to a programme of study doesn't make it practicable in the real life(life after leaving d four corners).
Also, the fact that they were been equipped with laboratory and transferable skills hasn't proven to me that they are unavoidable in the real health sector(not talking about four walls of the university). Few courses are studied without atleast just a practical course but are they all practicable in the real life expecially in Nigeria?
Yes, it is a stand-alone programme in the university but what of after the university, is it a stand-alone career outside academics field also?
Theory in the text simply refer to "the main principles and ideas in science as opposed to the practice of actually doing it"
