Over the years, some have alleged the existence of tribalism in Nollywood- English speaking genre of the Nigerian movie industry. Some alleged that the Igbos dominate Nollywood and as such are tribalistic when it comes to giving roles to actors.

Rukky Sanda once lamented about the existence of tribalism in Nollywood when she was still coming up. She said: “WhenI had my first audition, I got a role instantly. That was with Sunny Mac-Don, but what I have realised recently when I came fully into acting is that there is an issue of tribalism.
“But I think this is uncalled for because I have been given roles several times and later rejected simply because I’m of the Yoruba stock. I think that is really wrong. People don’t have to be rejected because of their tribes. This has really affected me,” she lamented then.

Meanwhile, some others had denied the existence of tribalism in Nollywood. Maybe this list will help to prove that the existence of tribalism in Nollywood is a hoax after all.

The Ijebu, Ogun State born plus size actress has been making it big in Nollywood. After featuring in Blackberry Babes, she became hot in demand by the English Nollywood movie producers, especially in comic roles. Eniola has been so busy, grabbing roles after roles.

9 YEMI BLAQ

His impeccable diction and proficient role interpretation has made Yemi Blaq a top actor in Nollywood.

8 BIMBO AKINTOLA

Bimbo is another top player in Nollywood. After debuting with a role in Out Of Bound, Bimbo Akintola has risen to the top. The Oyo state born actress has her diction and acting prowess as her strong points.

7 JOKE SILVA

She started with soaps and then moved to Nollywood. She is seen as a role model to a lot of young actresses. Joke Silva emerged AMAA Best Actress in A Leading Role for her role in Widows Cot in 2006.

6 JIBOLA DABO

Jibola suddenly became hot in demand in the English genre of Nollywood after featuring in the controversial movie, Dirty Secret. He has been very active but only recently took a break to pursue his political ambition.

5 DESMOND ELLIOT

Desmond was the most sought after actor sometime ago in Nollywood. He later minimized his appearances in movies as he delved into directing. Desmond has a Yoruba father from Lagos state and an Igbo mother.

4 FUNKE AKINDELE

Funke has risen to be one of the most sought after actresses in Nollywood. The English genre of Nollywood patronises her frequently. Her first major role was in Egg Of Life, years ago. But she didn't hit it big. But after her movie, Jenifa, became a monster hit, the English sector of Nollywood now can't have enough of her. The Ikorodu, Lagos State born Funke emerged AMAA Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2009.

3 OLU JACOBS

His colleagues call him "Uncle". He is very active in Nollywood. He plays royalty roles, "Igwe" roles in movies quite often. He emerged AMAA Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2007.

2 RAMSEY NOAH

Ramsey is one of the biggest stars in Nollywood. He is one of the most popular too. Many people, especially the women love him so much.
Nouah was born in Nigeria to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother who hails from Ondo State. He grew up in Surulere, Lagos.

1 OMOTOLA JALADE EKEINDE

The Ondo state born super star actress is among the two biggest names in Nollywood. She made the Times List of 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2013. She has worn several awards, both locally and internationally.
