Privatisation is the way forward, but in Nigeria they will sell it to themselves just like they recently done with power. Look at the names of people who bought the power auction, Abdulsalam Abubakar, Otedola, Bert Nnaji etc, any wonder why power is still comatose? After selling to themselves and running it aground, they will now use our money to bail them out. Back to government control and so the circle continues

Nigerian govt are sick & deluded. When they can't manage a sector, the next thing is privatize it. Is privatization the answer too every sector not working?

This is a good development if they can get a good consortium to run it prpoerly. FAAN is doing a poor job especially at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport. If you know how much some of these FAAN staff make by collecting bribes and cutting corners, you would weep for Nigeria.

Heathrow Airport in the UK isn't owned by the British Government. The airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings, which also owns and operates three other UK airports, and is itself owned by FGP TopCo Limited, an international consortium led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group that includes Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.

As bad as Bi-Courtney is, it is is doing a better job than FAAN in managing the MMA2 Airport. If an international consortium like the one managing Heathrow can take over Murtala Mohammed for example, I believe that would be an excellent development.

You made an excellent point. . However our leaders do not reason like that. This privatisation exercise will certainly be used to settle some FG cronies.
What happened in power sector readily comes to mind.
how many foreign company that woukd have handled the sector was given the opportunity? Where are we today.. I am currently paying a fixed charge of 750 naira every month yet I still run my generator.
I see a situation where you have to pay touching ground fee just to make use of the airport

This is good. It makes no economical sense for a federal government to be operating an airport.

I would have love to see the habitual and annual striker workers sector to be privatize e.g. education (universities secondary and primary level respectively) if it could help restore sanity in the sector.

Try and get learned more with reality, you are too enshrined in your local ideas that modernization is just sifting pass you. Go and check, all the famous Airport and seaport in the world are owned by the private sector. The Govt don't own them

PHCH is privatized yet their is still no constant power supply, our refineries are privatized yet we cannot even refine crude oil we have to export them to oder countries to refine it for us. And am sure when they privatize the airports there would be no difference.

No point calling him a Goat, he is the best preside till date if you disagree name one that is better since the history of 9ja, he is not there but at least he is trying. Check this Country, is the private sector not doing better than the Govt sector? you know why, people work and earn their wages in the private sector ,in the govt, the jst chill and relax cos no check and balance, the wage Bill of the FG would reduce if the Airport go private and those hoodlums at the airport would be a thing of the past just as the seaport got rid of those thieves.

Go and do your research very well. Try and check what sector within PHCN that was privatized, ask your fellow NL if their power situation had not improved, Check again and see how many New power stations where built by private/govt partnership.
As for the refinery, it don't make no diff if its refined in Nigeria or not, the coy of the day will seek cheaper means of providing products to Nigeria anyhow it deems fit. Most coy in the west produce their stuff in china and bring back to the west.btw, don't you have fuel in your area?
Re: FG To Privatise Airports Soon- Vanguard by honeric01(m): 11:36am On Oct 06, 2014
As long as the FG is ready to hands off the lion share of our resources, let all states handle their resources, then pay tax to the FG.

you can't be taking 52% of the whole resources, yet private sectors handle the main responsibilities. it doesn't make sense.
