Why Majority Of Nigerians At Elance.com Don't Rise Above 0 - $100 by skillforce: 2:50pm On Oct 08, 2014 |
I have used elance.com as a freelancer and employer. Sometimes i take time to look at publicly available data regarding the volume of jobs and money flowing to Nigerians in the niche markets that interests me. Looking at the numbers it becomes glaring that out of the total number of nigerians on elance.com, majority - close to 90% are yet to rise above 0 - $100 earning milestone. What do you think could be the reason(s)? Share your thoughts from freelancer or employer perspective. |

skillforce:There could be many reasons for that. One of the major challenges among others a typical Nigerian can face when it comes to this kind of online business and not even limited to that is power supply challenge. You need it to succeed and rise above some level. If one is not available online when writing job offers are being posted on Elance definitely others would have drabbed it ahead. If have not solved the power issue permanently, then you need to look at some other viable online business model. 1 Like |

@MSNNG Power, power, power !!! Could Nigeria's cyber crime reputation have a negative effect on the flow of online jobs and money to Nigeria? |

skillforce: Definitely and in fact that is another major gray area for any Nigerian that seeks to excel in the international world to clear. However it is still a secondary issue provided the individual involve can prove himself. |

The thing is, once a job is posted... ( I use freelancer) the site give a recommendation of who to choose, who is best to handle the task...mostly based on feedbacks, jobs completed...its sumhw like fiverr. And then makes it difficult to be seen Again this site charge you some kind of little fees to feature in postings, to be visible, to be that to be this, actually thats part of how they make dere money... and if you eventually pay.. u Will still not get the job any way. |

Truth is.. Most Nigerians cant even bid for some works.. What an indian charges for 50 dollars.. You cant do it considering power and internet data.. Aside that, some Nigerians have really dealt with foreigners especially in the area of communication and delivery ontime.. So normally they fear to deal with us.. But then, i know of a few Nigerians that has good recommendations in freelancer.. Its just a matter of time.. |

Power is the obvious problem but with chances to work from places like LitCaf, there can't be anymore problem. |
