masonkz: I remember a lady at Standard Chartered Bank in VI, Lagos complaining about their pay. She said (pointing upstairs) only those guys up on the next floor earn big. She cited example of a guy who studied abroad and was working there for his NYSC, earning N240k. That was year 2008/2009, and I wouldn't know how much they pay now for such new level. But she affirmed that fresh starters who studied abroad are better remunerated than their Nigeria-schooled counterparts in same bank. Some upstream Oil & Gas players pay their new level entries same range depending on your job area and whether you are recruited with OND or HND/Bachelor's degree. The OND holders (junior staff - Nupeng) could be around N500k (plus or minus) while the HND/BSc entry (senior staff - Pengassan) can be around N700-N800k per month. It sometimes depends on the job area. While some job areas like Engineering, Finance, HR will start fresher on the upper band payment, some other job areas like Operations, Supply Chain may be on the lower band of the pay range for entry level. They are not usually static as they keep increasing every year based on the country's economic inflation trend. 2 Likes 1 Share |

arbitrage: Standard chartered bank is one of the least paying banks in Nigeria despite their international clout. The guys she pointed to are probably the Forex guys who get paid in millions with some going home with bonuses in the millions. Their salaries are on a different scale . Also you are right on the issue of foreign msc. A first class student no matter how brilliant he or she is from a Nigerian university is paid far less than those with foreign degrees but the irony of it all is that despite the so called down turn in our education we still out perform those with foreign degrees. Also standard chartered bank has no tangible assets in Nigeria and if it were to collapse the owners will not loose anything just like the way oceanic bank was run under cecilia Ibru. They make so much but the pay is not commensurate with their profits except you are really high up and their customer care at most is crappy to me. If you don't earn like politicians the bank is not advisable to bank with . Your account often determines the type of service you get there. 3 Likes |

The GTB figure is correct. My entry level pay when I joined one downstream oil company more than 6 years ago was 163k net per month. It should be above 200k in that company today. My friend that joined Shell around same time was earning circa 500k net per month. Today, in the oil and gas industry, here is a rough idea about net monthly pay at entry level. IOCS E&P (upstream) - 600k-1m Independents E&P (upstream) - 300k - 600k Multinational oil servicing - 300k - 500k Tier 2/Indigenous Oil Servicing - 200k - 400k Tier 1 Downstream - 200k - 300k Tier 2 Downstream - 150k - 200k 24 Likes |

Please we need more facts and figures. People haven't talked about so many other companies like Nigerian Breweries, Consolidated Breweries, SABMiller, British American Tobacco, 7up Bottling Company, Nestle, Unilever, Orange drugs, Mc Kinsey, Accenture, Zenith Bank, FCMB, Skye Bank, NNPC, Central Bank, Nigerian Road Safety, Inec, NDLEA, SON among others. At the end of the day, I will compile the list and create another thread for the outcome of “our” research. *lol* 2 Likes 1 Share |

Alaroro: I guess their salaries depends on the position of the pastors. Most church pastors don't earn that well and mostly live off the gifts from church members. Most church branches remit all their offerings to headquarters who in turn give out so little. A pastor once complained about this and that this reason was why apart from normal offerings and tithes they take up other special offerings which is to augment their work. The lack of accountability and transparency in our church is alarming. Here in the UK it is different as the church is more accountable 2 Likes |

veevean1: Yea... And dey include security, cleaners, drivers, messengers, industrial trainees etc... My dear, if u wana get in with just 2.1, dat your connection go long pass 3rd mainland bridge... I never say pple its impossible. You must have a sponsor. Datz an alias for a godfather as used in the industry. Even wit a sponsor, u must hav an employable profile (minimum of 2.1), if not "no show"... By this standard, I'm referring to peeps dat read oil and gas related courses... Not management courses. |
