Google Explains Why Linda Ikei’s Blog Was Shut Down... by AmicableEd: 9:09am On Oct 09, 2014
Google has finally responded and explained why LIB was shut down!

It all began a few days back when one Mr. Aye Dee, Editor-in-Chief of United States-based 15Past8 media group, reported Linda Ikeji to Google, accusing her of copyright infringement.

“Google just notified us that they are removing our copyrighted content from Linda Ikeji’s website. All the stories and images Linda Ikeji took from me without permission in the last few days have been removed from her site by Google. Someone has to say something. It costs money to get good work done. I spend time getting information from my sources, as well as analysing and verifying the information. All that costs money. I don’t mind donating my time for Nigeria’s sake, but for someone to take my labour and use it for personal profit, no way!” Aye Dee had tweeted.

Well, read the detailed explanation of Google's Manager for Communications and Public Affairs, Anglo-Phone West Africa, Taiwo Kolade-Ogunlade below:

He said Google takes the issue of copyright seriously, adding that the company belongs to a group of Internet firms that abides by the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other applicable copyright laws.

“To respect the rights of copyright holders, Google clearly spells out how users of its products and services can get permission to use someone else’s intellectual property such as text, songs, images and footages. Google is no respecter of anybody when it came to the issues of copyright infringement, copyright is a big deal.
“Google as an organisation takes issues of copyright seriously and belongs to a group of digital companies that respect copyrights.
“Copyright is a big deal and this is why you can’t just go and pick up another person’s intellectual property or content and lay claim to its ownership.
“That is why we have copyright guidance. I don’t know if Linda picked up any content and I don’t know what content is the bone of contention-neither have I looked into the complaints personally.
“But it is not a case of witch-hunting and has nothing to do with Linda Ikeji’s personality or anyone else because there is a process, and irrespective of who you are in the world, that process would apply to you.
“It has become imperative for online entrepreneurs to respect the rights of copyright holders noting that the Internet community should be built on mutual trust and general respect.
“Let’s respect other people’s rights and intellectual property. Making money off other people’s content without permission is wrong. Although the Internet is inanimate, it is the content on it that gives it life. These are the issues.
“Whenever owners of online contents come after you accusing you of using their content, it is because they have families to feed and businesses to sustain.
“People should also understand that copyrights does not only apply to text, but also extends to literary works, images and photographs, music files and MP3s, movies, movie trailers and videos as well as software,” Kolade-Ogunlade explained to Punch.

That is very sketchy and needs elucidation. Did they verify from Linda? What were the images or whatever it was that was copied? This explanation is not good enough to SHUT DOWN Linda's blog pls.

Google didn't make sense on this....they acted like they have been looking for some opportunity to shoot her down.

The report simply says nothing about Linda being guilty. That someone reported isn't enough to shut down another's blog. We need further verifications pls and if they shut her down wrongly, Linda should sue google's ass and make some cool cash.

Something don't just add up here. You dont know if Linda picked up any content? Yet her blog was blocked?Where are the evidence? What was Linda's response to the allegation? They just shutdown her blog just because someone made an allegation?

I believe surplus evidence was laid by Aye Dee to verify his claims. And that Google reacted as they should regardless of who is in the background. undecided

she can't sure Google.she has been using Google service for her blog and making money from it. before doing that she agreed to the terms and conditions of such a service. thus Google has the right to pull the plug if they think you violate those terms; evidence may even be circumstantial.

all would have been avoided if she got her own domain. even that mobi site she is using now can be hacked and defaced.

My thoughts exactly! What if @ d end She's innocent? Google should have made some investigations before taking that decision undecided undecided

Not much of a convincing and justifiable evidence of why they shutdown her blog from Google though only just a skeletal and anecdotal response.

Look, speaking of which; Has Linda come out to say something about the said copyright offence and has she admitted to committing the offence before judging her?
But i wonder why with all the money she made,at least i expected her to pay folks who are knowledgeable in websit stuffs to help her run the blog or better ask for IT geeks for more input rather eating alone. Small_small things like this makes your competitors envy you...
Apparently, she was just carried away by the huge monthly cash she was getting...

This life is not free, it's like "give and take" Maybe she gotta learn from this episode and perhaps she could have just playfully tell the guy am sorry, that woulda_shoulda suffice plus who knows perhaps the guy wouldn't have gotten mad..Pride/money is something people should pray against for real.....

For some people saying she is innocent, will a company as big as google bring down her blog without ascertaining that she is guilty of the offence she was accused of? She sure knows she is guilty, almost all the bloggers in Nigeria are guilty of plagiarism. Some people don't take it serious, some others who knows the value of their time and money does.

Don't think Google will just bring down her site for no just reason. High time things are done right. The bigger you get,the more you should be knowledgeable of existing laws, and protocol

Am not hating her,she messed up by not being professional in her business.

There is no website or blog admin on this planet, that does not re-blog, edit or redistribute other peoples content. Even CNN does it, but they let you know it was taken from so so and so place, and they attribute Copyright to the owner or website. the truth is, before you use anyone's content, you need to read through the blog or website to see if they allow it. examples like Washington post. after the end of each article they post, they write it clearly that the content should not be copied, edited or redistributed. so, websites like that should be far away from you. plagiarism is the act of editing, publishing or redistributing someone's written work or article, without the person's permission and also without attributing copyright to the person. I guess this is the part where she didn't get it right and as we all know, for those of us that use blogger, they state it clearly that they can take down the blog at any time you go against their standards. Anyone that knows her personally she tell her to buy a premium domain and stop using a sub-domain, Like seriously its been 8 years......that's really long, 8 years of hard work disappearing in 1 second. even the www.lindaikeji.mobi hasn't posted anything since yesterday. i really feel for her, she inspired me to start blogging and after a while, I felt I had grown a sub-domain, i bought my own domain and a domain won't cost you anything. she needs to get things straight, I think she has grown above .blogger.com. like seriously she scattered all the social media sites yesterday. even until now twitter is still trying to cool down. I just wish her quick recovery from this frustrating storm.

Dear LIB readers: These cybersquatters have
taken all my names o lol Like, these Cyber-squatters are not even playing. All my names have been taken.lol. Think it's finally time
for me to move to my own domain name (I was scared before because of hackers) but there's no Linda
Ikeji available online. Unknown people have
registered everything there is to register. Some as far back as 2007 when I didn't even know what blogging was all about though I was blogging at the time. I got some people to help me look for a lindaikeji domain
name yesterday...and everything has been taken. I'm kind of flattered sha, didn't know I was that much of a big deal...lol.
Anyway, I will find one weird LindaIkeji name and let y'all know soon where I am moving to. I don't want to give any of these guys the pleasure of buying
those names from them. Secondly, I also think it's time to expand. For almost 8
years it's been mostly me. I think it's time to get more hands to work at LIB. Doing it mostly alone has been
fun but it can be quite exhausting. You don't go out much and I practically didn't have a social life. Plus now I can go out more and maybe find me a husband before menopause catch me for house where I sit
down from morning till night dey blog...lol. I need sex again in my life I swear...choi...lol
.
I'm kinda glad this happened...it's pushed me to want to expand. Will let y'all know. Kisses
got this from her other site...she posted it yesterday.
@bolded though grin...can someone pls tell S.eun that's a green light. cool

I wonder why she has not had her own domain all this while, procrastination If you ask me,she relied to much on herself, she probably didn't realize how big she became in blogging

All the information you need is her response to the case if you read between the lines. Although she was silent on her stealing pictures from Getty images, she admitted she broke copyright laws but showed no remorse...

According to her, Google contacted her that there were several complaint filed about her plaigiarism and told her to put in a counterclaim...google initially deleted a few of her posts, but probably yanked off her whole blog on realisation most of her work is copy and paste.
