Much as i want to agree that our biggest challenge is corruption and Rtd Gen Buhari seem to have a reputation in dealing with such issues,i would want us to situate it in a context. The degree of corruption is 1983 pales into insignificance when compared to NOW. I hate to say this but truth is corruption has become systemic (if not endemic). As such the anti-corruption therapy cannot be the same. Secondly,anti-corruption therapies in a military regime may not necessarily be relevant in a democracy. Reason being that the structures are different. That said, the anti-corruption drive in my opinion must be systematic;that is we must engage all arms of government and the followership on a journey of value rediscovery which is the reason i have always believed that we need a man with a strength of character,cross-ethnic alliances, highly ingenuous, sincerely purposeful and oratorily powerful(such as can genuinely inspire us as a people to shun corruption)while delivering good governance across the board without fear or favor. The long and short of this submission is that the anti-corruption effort must be collaborative and this can only be possible when the oga at the top is actively&verbally inspiring. 1 Like |

Obiagelli: I don't like diversions, we are talking about Mohammadu Buhari, the peoples' General and his level of involvement in 1983 Coup that truncated Civilian Rule. It is imperative to note that other past Military heads of State are not presently under scrutiny because they are not aspiring for highest political office in Nigeria. Ibrahim Babangida tried to come back but couldn't withstand his past hence he gave up. Nobody is hating on Buhari, let him apologise to Nigerians for: 1. Being the face of 1983 Coup 2. For being in Government for more than Abdusalami Abubakar without any template to return the country to civilian rule. Murtala Mohammed had it but was murdered. Olusegun Obasanjo had a template and executed it and Abdusalami Abubakar followed Obasanjo's steps. Buhari wanted to perpetuate himself in power like Idi Amin 5 Likes |

Obiagelli: In my earlier post, I conceded semantically his non involvement in terms of attending periodic meetings during the coup just because I can't prove his attendance. However, Buhari is not denying betraying the Commander-in-Chief Shehu Shagari by withholding the information at his disposal at the time through silence. Had the Coup been botched, he would have been executed by Military tribunal. I learnt one important thing from US Congress when they interview Government and Public Officials thus: They do ask, What do you know (about the incident under review) and when? 3 Likes |

peewhydee: Like I have previously stated........ Yes, we all have agreed with your point, Buhari is too old, his styles are outdated, he can't rally enough support to fight corruption, he lacks some leadership qualities......... Election is February sir, please suggest and sell a better name to Nigerians (who seem tired of PDP). (Please let it be a name, that no one will wake up tomorrow and start reading us his/her faults). Because if we fail to agree on a name now, we are hoping into another 4years of our present predicament Don't give criteria or qualification...... Give a name, and do it fast, because time is fast running out. Except you are suggesting that, we should just stick with "the devil we know" |

Ngwakwe: I get confused reading some reports. How did this two paragraph get drafted in the same report? 1. "He also wished President Shehu Shagari, who he had earlier toppled and detained too, will forgive him." 2. "He denied ever participating in coup plotting, and said he was merely invited as the most senior officer to take over the reins of governance after Mr. Shagari, the second republic president, was sacked. Those backers later “changed their minds” and booted him out of office, he said. I did learn something new though, something that I always seek explanation to: Mr. Buhari also denied N2.8 billion oil money disappeared while he was minister of petroleum. He said the allegation was politically motivated........ “At that time, Nigeria was exporting about 1.82 million barrels a day. And the cost of barrel a day was about $18. You work out N2.8billion. How could N2.8billion be missing and we still have money to run the country?” . |

Obiagelli: Please you can crack your brain too, for solutions. Nigerians are yearning for an alternative to PDP desperately. Since we are having problem trusting him Gen. Buhari in the company of those around him......... We need someone else, can you come up with a name? I have many names sha, but I am finding it hard selling it to people, you might have a better option. |

Re: What Buhari Must Do To Win 2015 Election by Ngwakwe: 7:10pm On Oct 11, 2014 |
Obiagelli: Logically, when military juntas dispose civilian governments because of corruption or National Security, they do come up with blueprints which include how long they intend staying in power before handing over to civilian rule. Buhari had none of those plan not even a secret one for that matter. If he had, the interview I posted above would've contained it rather he was furious with Babangida for taking over what he claimed was given to him on trust. If Buhari claims he wasn't involved in 1983 Coup, why complain so bitterly when he was disposed? You see, Gowon has no grudge against Murtala Mohammed nor against Obasanjo when they took back what they gave him on trust. Why Buhari, if he wasn't actively involved in the coup? 3 Likes |

Obiagelli: No, You aren't supposed to believe my assumptions. But you're supposed to believe Domkat Bali's account of the coup since you have no other tangible account apart from buhari's (which could be him trying to exonerate himself). I'd rather believe Domkat Bali's wife than believe your assumption that buhari was invited to take over as HOS. Domkat Bali's wife's account makes more sense.. 5 Likes |

Iamkbstarr: See how to understand such interviews. 1. Take the position of the interviewer. 2. Understand the questions being asked. 3. Check for loopholes in the answers provided by the interviewee. 4. Repeat the question he faltered in another fashion to seek details and clarifications 5. Check for inconsistencies to deduce lies and acts of cover-up . 6. Don't ever embarrass him 7. Draw your inferences. 2 Likes |

@Obiageli tell me that this statement he made was twisted too by the reporter because he spoke in Hausa. Stop Killing Boko Haram Members – Buhari Tells FGFormer Head of Military Ruler and Chieftain of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Federal Government to stop the clampdown of Boko Haram insurgents, saying Niger Delta Militants were never killed or propertiesbelonging to them destroyed.Buhari who spoke on Sunday on a Liberty Radio programme, Guest of the Week monitored said accused the government of killing and destroying houses belonging to Boko Haram members while the NigerDelta militants get special treatment. The former dictator said that unlike the special treatment given to the Niger Delta militants by the federal government, the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished by government. While accusing President Jonathan of failing from the beginning to address the security situation in the country, Buhari said he has never been in support of the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state.According to Buhari “what is responsible for the security situation in the country is caused by the activities of Niger Delta militants. Every Nigerian that is familiar with what is happening knows this. The NigerDelta militants started it all.“What happened is that the governors of the Niger Delta region at that time wanted to win their elections. So they recruited the youths and gave them guns and bullets and used them against their opponents towin elections by force.“After the elections were over, they asked the boys to return the guns; the boys refused to return the guns. Because of that, the allowance that was being given to the youths by the governors during that time was stopped.“The youths resorted to kidnapping oil workers and were collecting dollars as ransom. Now a boy of 18 to 20 years was getting about 500dollars in a week, why will he go to school and spend 20 years to study and then come back and get employed by government to be paid N100,000 a month, that is if he is lucky to get employment.“So kidnapping becomes very rampant in the South -South and the South -East. They kidnapped people and were collecting money.“How did Boko Haram start? We know that their leader, Mohammed Yusuf started his militant and the police couldn’t control them and thearmy was invited. He was arrested by soldiers and handed over to the police.“The appropriate thing to do, according to the law, was for the police to carry out investigations and charge him to court for prosecution, but they killed him, his in-law was killed, they went and demolished their houses.“Because of that, his supporters resorted to what they are doing today. You see in the case of the Niger Delta militants, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua sent an aeroplane to bring them, he sat down with them and discussed with them, they were cajoled, and they were given money and granted amnesty.“They were trained in some skills and were given employment, but theones in the north were being killed and their houses were being demolished. They are different issues, what brought this? It is injustice”. http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/exclusive/stop-killing-boko-haram-members-buhari-tells-fg/ |
