HEALING COMES WITH FORGIVENESS
2Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name,
shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek
my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.

Where sin goes, afflictions follow (Psa.
107:17). The devil knows this well and thus
lures a man into sin so that he may thereby
afflict him. Remember the Bible says he
came to steal, kill and destroy. Christ came
however to give life to every dying soul
(John. 10:10). Glory to God!
God’s forgiveness is more than just a mere
pardon for sin, our text today shows us how
that God’s ultimate desire in forgiveness is
that the forgiven be healed; healed of every
brokenness and affliction that sin had
brought in. Glory to God!

God can heal that relationship that has
deteriorated because of sin. He can bring
back to life your business from its present
comatose condition if you will accept His
forgiveness for every wrong done in your
past. If you will seek His face today, confess
your sin and ask His forgiveness, He will
now begin to heal you. Halleluyah!

Ezekiel 36:25
“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you,
and ye shall be clean: from all your
filthiness, and from all your idols, will I
cleanse you.”

There is no mother who does not know the
difference between her baby and his wet
diapers. Both may be together most times,
but they are never the same. Just as God
would do as we see in our text today, a
mother knows how to separate the wet
unpleasant diaper from her precious gift out
of heaven!

The thinking that your errors define who you
are is a lie of the devil. That thought pattern
cripples a believer and further drives him
away from God. The truth however is that
when you got born again, God placed His
own life in you so you might have His own
nature. In other words, you are no longer to
be known by what you did or did not do
wrong; rather, His nature is your new
identity! Halleluyah!

If you must look away from your mistakes
and forgive yourself for shortcomings in your
walk with God, you must focus on your
righteousness in Christ. In Him, you are
forgiven, faultless and full of grace. Dwell on
this truth today and rejoice because you are
not your mistakes; you are who God says
you are!

THE MERCY OF GOD RESTORES

“And I will restore to you the years that the

God’s forgiveness is a total package; with it
comes peace, healing and restoration. Our
text today stresses His resolve to restore
lost years, and the days spent in the dark
and lonely hole of separation from Him. Oh,
what hope we have in Him!

The Mercy of God extended towards those
who call upon Him draws unto them the
grace and resources needed to rebuild their
lives, business, homes or whatever sin had
brought to destruction (Isa. 60:10), so much
more that they are back on their feet in no
time, giving Glory to God. Amen!

What have you lost as a result of your
unfaithfulness to God in the past, the mercy
of God is bringing them back to you in
manifolds now; say amen to that. As you
humble yourself before Him today and ask
for His forgiveness in areas of shortcomings,
be assured that by His mercy, He would

UNFORGIVENESS HINDERS PRAYERS
Mark 11:25
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye
have ought against any: that your Father
also which is in heaven may forgive you your
trespasses.
Today, we find another reason in Scriptures
why we ought to forgive those who trespass
against us. And this time, it bothers on how
God responds to and answers our own
prayers.

Prayer is a confident call of a believer unto
His Father for some intervention in the
earthly realm. However, guilt, fear and
unforgiveness may get in the way of our
prayers because they corrupt our faith/
confidence. Moreso, unforgiveness is pride,
because it is a denial of our own fallibility.

Is there anything you still hold against
anyone in your life? The Lord says for you to
let go of such today. Forgive those who have
hurt you even so deeply, so that He may
hearken to your own cries for help in time.
Forgive, so that your prayers may not be
hindered.

YOU DESERVE FORGIVENESS
Hebrews 7:25
“Wherefore he is able also to save them to
the uttermost that come unto God by him,
seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for
them.”
Our text today says the literarily impossible;
Jesus saves completely even those who are
totally condemned.
In the world today, the highest penalty there
is for crime is death; some slow, shameful,
painful death maybe, reserved for those who
commit some unthinkably gruesome acts. In
the days of Jesus, crucifixion was it. Yet on
that cross, Christ reached out and saved a
thief who had been condemned to such a
punishment (Luke 23:40-43).
There is no sin too big for Christ’s blood to
completely blot out forever; yours inclusive.
Those who come to God through the Blood
of Jesus Christ are saved completely and
eternally. However far you might have gone
into the pit of sin or guilt before now, come
boldly to God in the Name of Jesus and
receive forgiveness for all your sins and
salvation for your soul. You are not
irredeemable!

“Then David arose from the earth, and
washed, and anointed himself, and changed
his apparel, and came into the house of the
LORD, and worshipped:”

Often times after a (perceived) failure, many
believers simply refuse to give themselves a
second chance as a result of loss of
confidence in self; what we sometimes call
low self-esteem.
* * *
David’s first attempt to bring the Ark of the
Covenant into Jerusalem ended in a disaster
(2 Sam. 6). The death of Uzzah could be
attributed to David’s failure to heed the
Lord’s prescriptions regarding how the Ark
should be transported. For this, Uzzah died,
yet David after a protracted season of
remorse and fear returned to bring the Ark
into Jerusalem in the proper and prescribed
manner. This is instructive.

What mistake in your past are you yet to
forgive yourself for? Though the
consequences of your actions may have
been grave, if you have sought and received
the Lord’s forgiveness on the matter, it is
time to move on with your life. Get up from
the mire of guilt and low self-esteem. A
forgiven man has the grace to step out and
win where he has once failed! Halleluyah!

GOD WANTS YOU TO LIVE

Ezekiel 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

In some quarters, God is perceived as a
fuming, vengeful dictator who is out to crush
sinners. Yet, His motive behind rebuking or
chastising His own people is nothing hideous
as we see in our text today. He convicts to
restore. The destruction of the wicked gives
Him no Joy.
****
While it is clear that God detests sin (Prov.
16:9), His desire is that those who have fallen
short of His glory by the reasons of
transgressions might consider their ways,
acknowledge their sins, repent of their evil
ways and walk in righteousness. Halleluyah!

Go about your work today knowing that your
soul is precious to God. His desire is that you
live and not die. His arms are open each and
every day to you and to everyone who through
guilt and the ignorance of sin have strayed
from His loving presence. He has a place for
you in His eternal purpose, and it is His will
that you live to fulfil that purpose. Amen!

SINS OF THE HEART
Hebrew 12:15
“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the
grace of God; lest any root of bitterness
springing up trouble you, and thereby many be
defiled;”

The root of sin is always in the heart, Jesus
says (Matt. 15:16-20), and from there it
spreads out until it consumes the whole being;
for out of the heart flows the issues of life
(Prov. 4:23). With unforgiveness, the story is
the same; it is a sin of the heart that defiles
and sets a man at variance with God.
* * *
With Unforgiveness or bitterness in the heart, it
is impossible to love or receive love, even from
God. It remains one of the most brutal ways to
hurt oneself as it does not only take away your
peace, it defiles your heart also. Little wonder
why our text today says that such residue in
the heart would trouble those who hold them.
* * *
It is your responsibility to be alert and guard
your heart against such killer sins as hatred,
bitterness and Unforgiveness by forgiving those
who have hurt you. This is how to have peace
with God and obtain the necessary confidence
to stand before Him today and every day.

FORGIVENESS HEALS YOU
Psalms 107:17-18
“Fools because of their transgression, and
because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their
soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they
draw near unto the gates of death.”

Is there any connection between sin and
sickness? Yes! Our text today and many others
from scriptures emphasize the fact that
disobedience to God does lead to ill health.
Jesus Himself established a clear connection
between sin and sickness when He healed the
man at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:14).
* * *
When a man holds a grudge against another
and continues in unforgiveness, he opens up
himself to afflictions in his own body. As the
fury and hatred grows, so also is his
vulnerability to all sorts of mental
disturbances. Is that desirable? Absolutely not;
it is God’s desire that you live in health. Glory
to God!
* * *
If unforgiveness does open the door to all
sorts of physical illnesses, choosing to forgive
those who have hurt you then is a therapy to
your body. In heeding to God’s instruction to
forgive those who trespass against you today,
you will now begin to experience healing not
just in your mind, but also in your body. Say
Amen to that!

PATIENCE, THE GREASE FOR FORGIVENESS
Ephesians 4:2
“With all lowliness and meekness, with
longsuffering, forbearing one another in love.”

Forgiveness is being patient with the imperfect,
nurturing the hope that they would someday
change. Unforgiveness is strongly connected to
impatience. It stems out of the thought that
the defaulter will never change. Yet this is not
what God’s Word says.

Who would ever think that a deserter like
Simon Peter would preach the Gospel in the
hearing of thousands of persons, out of which
three thousand got saved? Every believer is a
work in progress. As each one yields his or
herself to the Spirit of God through His Word,
the Bible says we are changed into the image
of Christ by the day. Halleluyah!

Therefore, it is expedient that you consider
those with whom you have an issue or the
other today. See them through the eyes of
Christ, forbearing them in love and praying
that the Lord would perfect that which He has
begun in their lives. As you grow in patience
with others, so will your capacity to forgive
increase. Glory to God!

HUMILITY, THE FUEL FOR FORGIVENESS
1Corinthians 4:7
For who maketh thee to differ from another?
and what hast thou that thou didst not
receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost
thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

It is not unusual to look down on or take
offence with people who behave in ways we
consider too primitive or below our standards.
In fact, the reason we get hurt and upset often
times is because the people we have dealings
with seem to function at a lower level of
wisdom or understanding. This tendency
however stands in the way of forgiveness.
* * *
Our text today states clearly that the reason
you appear wiser, richer or more cultured than
another person is because of God’s Grace, not
purely a result your own effort. God’s Grace is
the reason you appear better than others. Why
then are you upset with those who are yet to
attain your level of wisdom or understanding?
* * *
What is expedient is that you pray for those
who have disappointed you one way or
another,; pray that the same Grace of God that
worked in you would work in them also and
perfect their characters. This is true humility,
the fuel for forgiveness.

SOW FORGIVENESS
Luke 6:38b
“For with the same measure that ye mete
withal it shall be measured to you again.”

The principle of sowing and reaping applies
also in forgiveness. Jesus talked about the fact
that our willingness and speed in forgiving
others is the same measure to which God will
forgive us also.
* * *
What does this tell us? If we sow forgiveness,
we will reap forgiveness.
Sowing forgiveness begins with little things
and in little ways. The decision to overlook the
comments of an errant driver in traffic can be a
good way to start; letting the apprentice have
a second chance at delivering an excellent
service could be yet another. When anyone
comes to apologize, do not delay in letting go
also. Praise God!

As you step out today, it is important that you
programme yourself to overlook minor issues
and to readily forgive those who admit their
wrongs, knowing that you also would need
forgiveness someday soon. It is the same
measure that you mete out that would be
measured to you again!

THE FORGIVENESS FAST
Isaiah 58:6
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to
loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the
heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go
free, and that ye break every yoke?”
Many think that fasting is all about abstaining
from food for a season, but God’s Word shows
us that fasting is far more than that. Fasting
involves consciously defrauding oneself of a
right/privilege while giving to another; letting
go of what ought to be yours so you can make
someone else more comfortable.

Our text today shows us how forgiveness is an
integral part of a true fast, as it reveals God’s
instructions that we loose the bands of
wickedness, undo heavy burdens and free the
oppressed while we fast. This is so because
forgiveness eases the burden of guilt, and when
we forgive, we undo heavy burden. Halleluyah!

Unforgiveness is an oppression. Just as it is
wrong to owe someone and refuse to pay,
holding back forgiveness especially from those
who have shown remorse for their deeds is
oppression. Are there people whose peace
depends on your forgiveness? God would want
you to set them free today as you observe the
forgiveness fast. Amen!

15th October, 2014.
TITLE:
ADMIT YOUR WEAKNESS
SCRIPTURAL TEXT: (2Corinthians 12:9)
“And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient
for thee: for my strength is made perfect in
weakness."
* * *
Our text today is God’s response to Paul’s cry
to Him concerning a certain present weakness,
and as you can see, God did not deny the
presence of that weakness. Instead, He shows
us how that His Grace and Strength is all we
need to overcome our weaknesses.
Strength gives you a perfect mark before God
for that season wherein you are weak. It also
works in you Grace to overcome. So while it is
admissible to say that you have a certain
present weakness as an individual, understand
that those weaknesses do not define you,
because in God’s perfect plan, they can only be
present for a season, not forever. Glory to God!
Have you been let down by your own ability
lately? There is no need denying your present
weakness, admit that you need God’s Grace to
pull through. Do not lose hope in yourself,
forgive yourself even, and ask God for Grace to
overcome that weakness right now. His Grace
is all you need!

TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL.

LET GOD BE TRUE
Colossians 2:13
“And you, being dead in your sins and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he
quickened together with him, having forgiven
you all trespasses;”
God’s ways are immeasurably superior to our
ways. When he declares a thing, nothing can
alter the manifestation of that word. When you
wake up from the slumber of your error and
come before Him in repentance, He does not
give it a second thought before He forgives.
Take note of this phrase in our text today: “…
having forgiven you all trespasses”. Then it
went on to say in verse 14, that He blots out
the handwriting that was against us. Wow!
Isn’t that awesome? He totally and completely
erases all your transgression and its record,
like it never existed. Praise God!
Therefore, If God says He has forgiven you, it is
pride to think otherwise. Your refusal to
forgive yourself for a wrong done even after
asking God for forgiveness implies that you
hold God untrue, yet His Word cannot be
broken. Therefore, humble yourself today by
forgiving yourself and let God exalt you.

ACCOMMODATE IMPERFECT PEOPLE
Philemon 1: 10-11
“I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I
have begotten in my bonds: which in time past
was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to
thee and to me:”
In the pursuit of your life’s assignment, you
would be surrounded by imperfect people. God
in His wisdom has placed these people around
you because they have a role to play in helping
you achieve your life’s purpose. Your decision
to shut them out of your life as a result of how
their imperfection had affected you would only
result in your inability to fulfill your life’s
assignment.
You need people to achieve your goals, and
many of such persons would be imperfect while
your relationship with them lasts. Onesimus,
as mentioned in our text today was such a
one; though he fell out of favour with his
master at a time, he later proved profitable as
Paul stated.
Therefore, you must have the mind to forgive
others and resolve differences rather than
constantly pushing away those whose
thoughts, actions or manner of approach
differs from yours. Look out for ways in which
they fit into what God has called you to do,
and in time, you would not regret it.

LOOK AWAY FROM YOUR PAST
Philippians 3:13
“Brethren, I count not myself to have
apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind, and reaching
forth unto those things which are before.”
In a relay, the athlete who is to receive the
baton neither stops nor goes backwards to
receive it. Instead, he keeps a slow pace until
the baton is safely within his grip and then he
immediately takes off. Much in the same
manner, the only way to successfully move
forward is to walk facing forward and never
backwards.
No matter how beautiful or otherwise the past
might have been, the future will always be
brighter; such is the hope we have in Christ
Jesus (Col. 1:27). Paul in our text today talks
about forgetting the things (achievements or
mistakes) that are past, and aspiring for better
things ahead, implying that so long as the
center of your thoughts is the past and not the
future, no meaningful progress would be made.
What in your past has stolen your drive to
push forward? Now is the time to divorce
them. Looking away from your past might
mean forgiving yourself for a failure in the past
or setting a bigger goal for the future. Your
past is past; it is time to look ahead to the
glorious future God has for you!

heart, what fills your thoughts daily and let go
of thoughts that constantly pull you backwards

to them;that thy profiting may appear to all".

In the Kingdom of God,a man is not blessed
because of the truth he knows,but for that
which he practices(James 1:22). Many believers
know what God's word has said about
forgiveness,yet they cannot summon the
courage to receive God's forgiveness,forgive
others or even their own selves. The good news
today is that God has made a way out of that
trap: its called meditation.

As our text today prescribes,every believer
ought to brood upon God's word,properly
considering and confessing it until doubt is
eliminated and he finds strength to act out the
word. Glory to God! (This month's devotional is
designed to help this process).

Are you struggling with the reality of your
forgiveness or fighting to let go of hurts? End
that struggle by meditating on God's word on
forgiveness continuously until our doubting
mind is convinced. Thus,you will find strength
to forgive yourself,receive God's love and forgive
others too. Start now.

LET LOVE SUPERCEDE
1Peter 4:8
“And above all things have fervent charity
among yourselves: for charity shall cover the
multitude of sins.”
No true forgiveness can occur outside of love.
Our text today emphasises that it is love that
covers the multitude of sins, relating
forgiveness to love. In it also, we are also
instructed to be fraternal with other believers,
letting fervent love be our bond. Glory to God!
For us as believers, being kindly affectionate
towards other believers is our nature (Rom.
12:10). We have been designed to cherish other
believers as our own kindred in Christ. This
suggests that even when a misunderstanding
arises with another believer, you are never quick
to cut off from him/her, just like a mother
would never do away with her suckling child.
Why? Because their love bond is stronger than
any misunderstanding whatsoever!
In letting love supercede, we behave like our
Father whose love brought us forgiveness and
the redemption of our souls. Ask the Lord to fill
your heart with more of His love today, and be
ready to allow that love flow towards other
believers as you let go of negative emotions
towards them. Love is your nature, and so is
forgiveness. Amen!

TAKE YOUR PLACE IN INTERCESSION
2Corinthians 4:4
“But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that
are lost; In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not,
lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ,
who is the image of God, should shine unto
them.”
A soul is a soul, and is valuable to God. Even
the most hardened criminal is on His Agenda
for forgiveness, as God’s forgiveness is not only
for the believer, but also for the lost. His desire
is that all men be saved and come to the
knowledge of the truth (1Tim 2:3-4); this also
should be our prayer.
As believers, we must awaken to our
responsibility of partnering with the Spirit of
God through intercession to bring the lost to
repentance, so they might receive God’s
forgiveness. This is important because as we
see in our text today, the devil would rather the
lost perish in their sins. He blinds their eyes to
the truth and keeps them in condemnation. Our
prayers of intercession provide the necessary
force to break that limitation.
Therefore, set out time today to intercede for
those who by reason of ignorance, guilt or
condemnation have distanced themselves from
God’s forgiveness. Pray that the light of the
glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ would
illuminate their hearts, and that is exactly what
will happen. Amen!
