Nuclear expansion in South Africa

Does Nigeria even know what the word nuclear means, when it's still struggling to maintain simple gas power stations. grin grin

South Africa, France Sign Nuclear Cooperation
Agreement

South Africa and France have signed an Inter- Governmental Framework Agreement on Nuclear Cooperation, the Energy Department announced on Tuesday.

"This agreement initiates the preparatory phase for the possible deployment of French nuclear technology in South Africa ," said the department.

The agreement builds on the more than 40 years of cooperation between South Africa and France , as symbolised by the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant.

The agreement -- which was signed by Energy Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic , Laurent Fabius -- covers areas including skills development, localisation of nuclear technology as well as research and development in South Africa .

Minister Joemat-Pettersson said that South Africa was pleased to continue its long-standing cooperation with France .

"... This paves the way for establishing a nuclear procurement process. To date, South Africa has concluded several Inter-Governmental Agreements and will proceed to sign similar agreements with the remaining nuclear vendor countries in preparation for the rollout of 9.6GW Nuclear New Build programme," said the Minister.

In a statement last Friday, President Jacob Zuma announced that he had given authority to Minister Joemat-Pettersson to sign an agreement for the safe use of nuclear energy with France .

Last month, President Zuma granted permission to Minister Joemat-Pettersson to sign a nuclear agreement between South Africa and Russia .

The Presidency earlier this month said media reports that President Zuma has negotiated or will negotiate and conclude nuclear power agreements alone were incorrect.

In the State of the Nation Address in June, President Zuma announced that the country would prioritise energy security and would pursue an energy mix including coal, nuclear, shale gas and renewable energy.

At a media briefing earlier this month, the Energy Department said it was doing preparatory work towards the procurement process of nuclear power.

"... There will be a procurement process and the work that the department is doing is preparation towards that," Deputy Director General (DDG) for Nuclear Energy at the Department of Energy , Zizamele Mbambo, said at the time.

In 2008, South Africa approved the nuclear energy policy with the long term vision to be self-sufficient in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

"The expansion of SA's nuclear programme will yield tremendous benefit for the country ranging from mining, beneficiation, manufacturing, industrialisation, skills development and power generation without a sharp increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

"Significantly, this programme will create the much needed quality jobs and catapult South Africa into the knowledge economy to achieve energy security for the successful implementation of the country's National Development Plan," said Minister Joemat- Pettersson.

your trouble is that you are too lazy to read. Or lacking in comprehension. But let me still repost for you. And yes there is implied cold race war in southafrica. The level of fear, distrust and apathy between the races is akin to the cold war of the west and ussr.

i keep enjoying this thread because you southies just wont own up to facts. You react like a menstrating female when hit with the truth. But it could be you guys are pathological liars or just plain ignorant of your country.
Alright here it comes: Kleinfontein is a town near pretoria with 1,000 white only residents. It is fenced round and armed men in military fatigue guard its entrance. Written boldly on the entrance gate in Afrikaans is WE ARE HERE TO STAY. this city has it's own school, hospital and security system.
The southafrican flag is not allowed to fly, neither are black police officers allowed into the city. Even manual labour and demeaning jobs that are left for black southafricans traditionally are done by whites.
Southafrica is a time bomb waiting to click away. 60 murders occur daily. Elderly white women of 80 years are r.a.pp.e.dd and children are also R.a.pp.e.dd. White farmers are targeted and killed in cold blood. Even former southafrican president, Mbeki has been caught in several occasion singing the zulu racist song "let's kill the boers with machine gun".
This is a country that is racially divided with huge economic gap in favour of whites. Unemployment is high among blacks and few that have jobs still receive wages far below their white counterparts.
Black southafrica are still slaves of the modern era in their own country but they take pride in coming to forums like this to brag about a country they know nothing about, a country where they are still second class citizens.
A group of the most redundant black specie who are too lazy to work but love to brag about what isn't theirs.
Malele (spell check pls) who was the former youth leader of the ANC has gathered wide black support for all white land to be seized and given to lazy, illiterate and un exposed black southafricans without compensation.
There are two southafricas. One where the anglo-dutch represents as idealized by the city of Kleinfontein and the imaginary southafrica which only exists in the minds of these lost sheep here in Nairaland bereft of identity or heritage. How's that for fact, punk ?

I am looking for facts, but I keep finding long posts of emotional trivialities not supported by a single piece of evidence.

The fact that Nigeria ranks in the top quarter of the failed states index, means that it is in fact Nigeria that is a 'time bomb' waiting to explode. You rank 16th. Iraq ranks 11th. You are close to an "alert", waaaay beyond a "warning".

I have showed you that you rank fifth in the world in a measure that would include race wars. in other words, Nigeria's different groups do worse than South Africa's different groups.

You have no answer.

For your benefit, the picture is posted again.

Oh, by the way, you keep using words like "enjoy" and "laughing" and "menstruating women", all alluding to emotional states. Who are you trying to convince that you aren't having a hard time intellectually on the thread? Yourself?

It's very easy to make people own up to facts. Post them.

How frustrated are you?

you mean a town where a black police officer cannot enter? A town which still flies the old apatheid flap? A town where black southafricans cannont venture or rent or buy houses? That is segregation written in capital letters. It is telling everyone we built this country and we do as we please and there is nothing black government southafrica can do about it.

In private land there is "Right to Admission Reserved", if you know what it is.

In private land you could setup a town and and keep whom so ever you want to keep, its your land.

If we wanna read fiction, we would grab a book at the nearest Exclusive Books. Post facts and support them, then you will get traction. If you are used to the Nigerian way of allowing urban legends to spread like wildfire so that people accept them as fact, you're talking to the wrong people. How many sources have you been given? How many have you given? You needn't answer the question.

I asked you last week and yesterday to post facts or post nothing. A 1000 white people in an enclosed environment mean what? There are millions of white South African moving around in malls, city centres and office parks, suburbs etc... so according to your peanut brain, a 1000 gated people will make SA explode? Your IQ is worrying, consult the nearest mental institution.

Do remind him that there are towns in Nigeria that fly the "Sharia law flag" and there's nothing that the Nigerian government can do about it. Hence the 16th place ranking on the failed states index.

The South African government needn't do anything about this town, but the same can't be said for Nigeria.

ok you are summarily saying that france is giving and importing nuclear technology to southafrica. That isnt news worthy bro. Nuclear technology is in the air and any country that makes it a priority will have it.. India , pakistan which are 3rd world countries have it. Us led UN is bullying iran and north korea not to developed theirs. Hehe hehe.

And france your nuclear over lord got into the nuclear club through the back door long after nuclear activities and testing have become internationaly outlawed.
And yes Nigeria is experimenting with nuclear energy for power generation just what southafrica is doing. Only difference is ours is home inspired and grown, yours is imported like every single technology you boast about.

Funny that you dismiss nuclear while you can't put together an electricity programme.

If nuclear is no big deal and you don't have electricity, then you really are pathetic.
