Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has become the beautiful bride, for the three top presidential aspirants of All Progressives Congress, APC, who are now shopping for their vice president, it was gathered at the weekend.

The presidential aspirants- former head of State, General Mohammed Buhari, former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano State, it was learnt, are negotiating with Okorocha to accept the position of vice president.

But it was gathered that the party leadership is still entertaining doubt as to whether the decision to pick their presidential candidate from the North would give the party victory in the South particularly South East and South- South where the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had picked its presidential candidate.

Buhari and Atiku who were in Owerri at the wedding of Okorocha’s daughter, Uju, and Dr. Uzoma Anwukah, son of the Secretary to the Imo State Government, Prof. Anthony Anwukah, are also seeking Okorocha’s support at the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.

Although none of them agreed to speak to curious reporters when approached, National Mirror learnt there is common understanding among APC leadership caucus to pick somebody from the South as vice president who will help to divide the votes from the zone.

Apart from Buhari and Atiku, the National leader of APC and former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, National Chairman of APC, Chief John Oyegun, former Chairman of APC, and Chief Bisi Akande were also present at the wedding.

Speaking at St. Joseph’s Catholic Chaplaincy Imo State University, Owerri where the event took place, Governor Okorocha said the galaxy of Nigerians, including Muslims and Christians at the wedding, indicated that Nigerians were ready to live in unity irrespective of religion or ethnicity.

It is a fact that only one person can give GEJ a tsunami come 2015, and that person is General Buhari no doubt about it. And Ndigbo stand a better chance of emerging as President in APC than PDP, no doubt about that also. If you think GEJ will hand over to an Igboman in 2019, then you better wake up from your slumber.

Choosing Okorocha will be political suicide. The only foreseeable chance of victory for Buhari is to pick Fashola. Aregbesola is another option but anything short and Buhari might as well kiss his chances adios.

Religion should not be a criteria if Buhari is seeking to secure majority of his votes from the North and the SW. The north will vote Buhari (guaranteed) and the west will vote Fashola at the drop of a hat based on his antecedents. I don't think foreign religions matter to the Yorubas as their cultural identity does. You will find all religion in the Yoruba family so they tend to base their decisions more on merit than anything else. Of course Fashola being a Yoruba man is an added advantage.

Lol, if you have done the math, pdp only needs 25% of esch states vote to win. With igbos alone this is possible let alone yoruba prp jonathan ppl and hausa ones. Apc will sweep in Kano, and PDP will sweep in the east but pdp will secure over 25 in each state guaranteed. I say this because the beginning of the end of any politician is to make the god forsaken mistake of being on that apc ticket. Fashola has more to look forward to than s tombstone with VP written on it.

How many states can Okorocha guarantee for APC.? The reason APC will field Buhari is the number of states his candidature can bring to the party.

Fashola on his side can guarantee the whole of SW for APC.

You are right, if fashola can't make it as vice, Osinbajo will be a fantastic choice.

I always like Obiageli's contribution on NL, but I don't know why you are giving Ondo & Ekiti to Jonathan, governorship elections regardless. I don't think an Igbo man (sorry to say) should be on that ticket now. Anyone associated with APC has been tagged an outcast (we all know what Igbo progressives are experiencing here on NL). It shd go to either SS or SW.
As for fielding Fash. APC should undertake vigorous (& public if possible) consultation with Yoruba leaders including Christian leaders e.g Adeboye, Kumuyi, Oyedepo etc. They should only go ahead to field Fashola if Christians have been convinced of their reason to field him, otherwise they should look for other competent VP. Am afraid PDP may succeed in playing the religion card. We (yorubas) should not be overconfident and take our liberal outlook for granted.
