Hi Fellow scholars, I feel a bit ashamed but not surprised though, that at a time people should be bothered about the state of our scholarship pursuit, some have taken it as a favorite past time to pour OUT ABUSES on each other. Ur common foe is those at NDDC taking an entire set of intellectuals for a ride and NOT NAIRALAND members all in search of a better life. First we must all realize that whats at stake is not about any "LIST" or when the "LIST would come out". Its about getting an insensitive board to act responsible. Even job interviews with far grater number of candidates would notify everyone of the outcome of a process. This blatant insensitivity now to my amazement is making people to feed, hope and be desirous of "speculations" and "hear says". In any case these speculations could continue till eternity as far as its not official from NDDC. Unless one is a novice thats when U would still hold on to any list that is not yet released. The continued i dont care attitude of these NDDC BOARD IS NOT SURPRISING as we know that NEXT YEAR'S BUDGET is already being prepared and would be passed hopefully before the NATIONAL ASSEMBLY goes on recess for the elections this November. FYI - when PTDF cancelled its scholarship last year and though related this early enough to its candidates, assuring them of a combined entry for 2013-2014. It failed on that promise .with the research student as it took only a candidate per state this year which is less than its normal average. So if u thinking of a merger list next year then it means u reaLly not just a dreamer but in "Alaadins world " were stones tun to gold overnight. Once you guyS continue this irrelevant bickering over needless "rights" and "wrongs", time runs out and everybody goes home watching for next year. If you are conversant with government's body language u WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT once campaigns kick up fully next month, no one including the media would have ur time till late next year. Its better we stop disturbing NDDC staffs who are no Management members or Board executives to provide emotional assurances like "UR LIST WOULD BE OUT NEST WEEK" or "ITS FINANCE CAUSING THE DELAY". We wiser than these silly excuses cos we in Nigeria where thats the mantra of people when they dont want to work but EMBEZZLE PUBLIC FUNDS. The Big question is how does these petty fighting on one forum that isn't directly reflecting our collective goals to the right quarter going to offer. Sincerely speaking I think its not just leadership for a virtual or physical protest we need. If you on the path of affirmative action that means u should be TAKING RESULTS and ANALYZING results so far. We only need intensity and critical mass to drive home our point - full participation is rarely ever possible neither is anyone out there to usurp another opinion or views as to what we should be doin at the moment in this forum. A candid opinion is that as potential scholars on the divide of affirmative action, we do a 200 word snippet to the editor of some daily newspapers(FIND DETAILS BELOW) between tomorrow the 16th - 19th of this month. It would be a good starting point to dissipate energy in d right direction. The letter should be objective about the delayed response from NDDC AND ASK FOR AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE FROM THE NDDC BOARD. It would be nice to also have a list of topical call in programs with wide reach, we all can call to intimate of this irrational exhibition of mediocrity that the NNDC management as exhibited in the last few months. Expect your candid input, suggestions and above all action in this regards. THANKS and GOD BLESS!!! The truth about this ignoble situation where graduates start exchanging words is TENSION.. Everybody is highly tensed and expectant. To those wanting to do a protest.. its a truism that not all people would join u (its normal) and since everybody is entitled to his/her opinion, you cant force anybody to join you. And it dosnt give u the right to call them names. Change starts wit YOU. Relate with like-minds and strategise the blue-print. Let it be coordinated, peaceful and devoid of al sentiments, and disparaging, feckless and scurrilous words . Others may just join you.. You never can tell. On the other hand, these little altercations shuldnt deter the sole aim of the forum-To Share VALUABLE Information and socialise. So therefore, people with 'insiders', still share any info. The lil infos helps to 'calm the nerves'.. Thank you. |

Ok ! Since am accused always of heating up the thread, oya ! I don drop my battle axe. Emmabc1 and rajrascal , e don do! Make we concentrate on the protest abi na legitimate fight with NDDC. Thank you Attorney1law, at least you have given us a start point. Like I said am not good with activism, but 'organising' is a talent for me. I went through the thread and made a list of those who are PRO or ANTI the struggle or protest. We have 10 people in favour of the protest, against 4 people , 2 people are indifferent. I will keep updating the list as members declare their stand. Attorney1law, e be like say you be "oga lawyer" following the construct of your username on NL and the way you presented the argument. You try well well well. I want you to make a draft of the 200 word letter abi na "snippet" wey you call amm Post the draft here, so we can contribute. Pls the contribution will be for a period of time, maximum- 24hours, after which, emmabc1, attorney1law and I, will send it to the necessary media houses. Better still, every pro-struggle member will send to all our media contacts. Then, every pro-struggle member will now contact radio houses, call in on programmes that will send the information out. Note we are intellectuals, let's do this in the most organised and legitimate way. "Oga lawyer" please watch our actions and confirm its in line with the laws of the land. The only way to win this kind of war is to use the openings or lacuna in the law and circumvent the authorities, else they crush our efforts if its not based on the law. Emmabc1, what if you see away around the twitter thing. Maybe you try and reconstruct the tweet, to something less controversial, but direct to the point. Good luck to every one. |

EMMABC1: the truth is that we cannot share this thread with you protesters that do not really know the state of things happening in Nddc, if you did, you wouldn't be thinking of this protest that you folks don't even know how to organize talk less of executing it. please try to visit nddc office for enquiries on Thursdays before you protest. its not necessarily you know somebody there. since you guys do not appreciate the little information we share on this thread, i personally am sick of reading what ignorant protesters like you come here to post. the most annoying thing is that you protesters have been grumbling on this thread unnecessarily for months without any action. 1 Like |

Bethiano aired his opinion this morning in a respectful manner unlike in his previous posts and I admire him for that. Please, if anyone has any thing or message to pass across, let the person be respectful about it without looking down or discrediting others ideas and suggestions. We are all here for one course... That's this scholarship, so let's give each other the respect that is due to them. |

Hi Scholars, A happy morning to you all. Just in line with our resolve to take steps in the direction of actualizing our goals. I would like to kindly remind us of the need to roll out our letters and drafts to media stations we conversant with, national dailies etc. I personally provided that of vanguard cos of their open policy to publishing contents esp. letters of concern from Nigerians u know. Secondly, a lot has been said about the need for a protest - this i totally agree with. We have got to give our request /demand a face . Accordingly, i would suggest that we explore the option of visiting one or two media stations aside going to nddc offices. A successful protest would not require more than a handful and committed folks per time. The number needs not be much but with objective demands , strategy and courage we can do this long delayed protest. We need to choose a protest date agreed upon by those interested at least before middle next week.We sure running against time Thirdly, the protest at NNDC office must be matched with media presence and u guys know the usual, we caption every moment and spread via YOUTUBE as well. trust me one thing that gets these people(NDDC MANAGEMENT) hasten up in doin d needful, and thats just the tool we should use at d moment to get them thinking our direction. I would provide list of media stations in PH we could contact once we mobilized for a protest. Fourthly, we not protesting to have the NDDC management or its representative address us and give bogus promises that lead no where. Our placards must carry strong message about issues of scholars welfare that needs to be addresses. The lack of organization that has been experienced so far and an immediate publication of the list. The embarrassment their ineptitude is bring to the Nigerian state and prospective student seeking for admission in top flight institutions in the UK. If we are organized and committed enough, scholars in other NDDC STATES could arrange for these protest like visits to TV stations as well. The reason for the media protest is in line with the POSSIBILITY of having the media arm see our plight and whi knows offer us a slot in any of their programmes to also now air our opinions to the public and thats a powerful way to get this message out. One thing is for sure no matter the assurance we get from protesting at NDDC OFFICE, We must sustain the heat by talking and protesting through media channels until we see change . ITS ACTION UNTIL RESULTS ARRIVE. In conclusion, the only tool we need for each of these organized protests is our pen and a Cardboard. Thats where we draw our message. With peace we must send out our message, any saboteur who infringes on our right to peaceful association or attempts to mar our protest u sure should be ready for full engagement with the law. LETS EXHIBIT SOME COURAGE as YOUTHS and INTELLECTUALS at that. THANKS and GOD BLESS!!! I support Cabaye. Where is a protest done without adequate information? For me I'd like those who want to protest to go to nddc first because we can't protest blindly. If anyone goes to nddc and then gets a response, the person can furnish us with the information gotten and we can them wield our axe and strike. Now let me tell y'all some steps I've taken cos I don't come to talk always, I called the AIT dude and he said what do we want to protest for, that they called for the exams and interview and it's not like we paid any amount of money, that it wasn't right, I tried insisting and he clearly got fed and said I should email him and he gave me his mail, he also asked if we've gone to nddc office for a feedback and I said no. I have connections in NTA Phc, I've spoken to Ms Daoju, Vivian and Vicki, I met with the Zonal Director just yesterday and he discouraged against it also. He said they can't publish when I haven't even heard from them to find out anything. That it isn't right. The honest truth is this, let someone go to nddc, whatever nddc tells the person, the person will tell us so that when we are constructing the letter, we would also insert the response or feedback we got from them. There's no need to be aggressive about this thing, when someone goes, comes with a feedback, we will write a peaceful letter asking for proper answers. Thanks. 4 Likes |

csimms7:Thanks very much for the insight. So, for me, I think we should go with his suggestions. For those in PH, can we get like 3-4 pple who can visit NDDC office hopefully next week. Also if anyone have other suggestions how best we can go about this plz feel free to share it. The new plan is to visit NDDC next week, based on the feedback we get, we can now make an effective decision on what next to do. |

Yes , I think its better to go to nddc first, an hear their own side of the story! Attonery1law! I noticed! Its like you don't read through the thread. Pls read through cos we need your legal skills and guidance. task 1: to visit nddc Matters arising from tasl 1: 1) I think next week monday is fine. 2) Agenda of the visit; I tink we should write out the issues , that we want NDDC to addreSs. 3) Let's write out the persons the have to meet on the visit in case they are not allowed to see the MD. Ppl like, head of education, PA to MD, PRO, etc. 4)Let us draft possible questions and answer NDDC may ask. This will help us provide answers and appropriate questions to beat them at their game. Its better we get a clear and direct reponse than all those their poloitical statement. Success is ours 2 Likes |

Hi Scholars, In line with our common goal to better our future and that of our country, A number of us saw the need to engage the management and not some insider in NDDC who keep at giving us false hope. lET me begin by asking when did the need for a peaceful protest and rightful media engagement became necessary ? Was it when we submitted our scholarship application in february, or when exams were called for in early April or followed up with immediate interviews in that same April? Interviews were conducted and nobody gave us any official contact with which to contact in case of any enquiry regarding the scholarship(which is typical of most govt establishments in Nigeria). Notwithstanding we waited May, June, July. IN August WHEN REASONABLE AND TIME CONSCIOUS schools which we applied to began to ask for the status of our admission, we in turn took to asking for information form whatever unconfirmed sources about the release or decision of the NDDC BOARD REGARDING THE 2014/2015 SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME. people WENT AS FAR AS TO SUGGEST HAVING FAITH, LETS GIVE THEM TIME, OH LETS DO OUR TB TEST. SOME CLEARLY SAID DO A DEPOSIT TO YOUR SCHOOL. OH PAY FOR ACCOMMODATION AND ALL THAT NONSENSE. In the spirit of hope, some people(DEFINITELY NOT ME ANYWAY) went with these advise. In the last week of August when it became obvious that the management of this scheme were oblivious of the embarrassment it means for you to get people committed to cause and leave them halfway without even at least doing a press release to tell everyone that okay we cant do this programme for this year based on XYZ reasons. Instead NDDC carried on as if nothing is happening. i REMEMBER CLEARLY ON AUGUST 26TH, I SAID LOOK GUYS IF WE GOIN TO STAND A CHANCE FOR SEPTEMBER start ,ITS IN SPEAKING UP NOW. Oh people said lets give them the full stretch, oh its too early , oh defer your admission. I CAN REMEMBER SOME POEPLE CLAMOURING THAT "THIER ALMIGHTY SOURCE" SAID THE LIST WOULD BE OUT IN THAT SEPTEMBER. IT WONT EXCEED SEPTEMBER,oh IN 2012 - THE LIST WAS RELEASED LATE(forgetting to academically admit that the time of the interviews were typically from MAY downwards) Now these same people continued their PENCHANT for reporting what became more like a reflex response of the" list would be out soon" all through september till admissions closed and even up til now when its obvious that no one could travel for this year anymore.NOW THE ONE QUESTION IS WHAT OFFICIAL CHANNEL HAS NDDC responsibly taken as a public institution to tell us of the fate of this scheme. Does it mean that people travelled from Russia , UK, NORTH TO SOUTH OF NIGERIA against all odds for NDDC to keep mute at this critical stage. WHO AM I TO CONTACT AGAIN, WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL ACTING ON "SOURCES SAID" visited NDDC only a couple of days ago hopeful and only got that same line of balderdash that the list would be out soon. THAT INDIVIDUAL OUT OF FRUSTRATION HAS ENCOURAGED HIMSELF TO FORGET ABOUT THIS SCHEME. We stand here today thinking of getting the board to speak on the issue and tell us their stand and sb is saying we should wait till for information. QUESTION IS FROM WHO and WHEN? Personally, I have had to engage mentors and leaders from the Niger Delta and the National Assembly and the reasoning is that with a political appointee as NDDC MD. The ONLY WAY TO GET ANY REASONABLE RESPONSE IS TO ENGAGE THE MEDIA. Even the state director for my state has said he cant raise such an issue with the MD . The Assembly MEMBERS BELIEVE WE HAVE BEEN DOCILE in waiting this long. CAMPAIGNS ARE TICK, POLITICIANS THINK SLEEP AND WAKE 2015 - House issues are more 101% 2015. Even a couple of responses i get from some newspaper persons is do a page advert to that effect. Some have even asked if am sure no one has benefited yet since NDDC doesn't publish the list. The common denominator is that at this critical moment OUR DESTINY is in our HANDS. We either live with this blatant disregard by NDDC for our precious time and investment or tow the line of asking for the right thing. If sb is thinkin at NDDC - they should know that we are human beings and the only respect they owe us at this point is an explanation, better list a publication of the list. Thanks and lets keep at harmonizing our plans for engagement.!!! In the misdt of all this bashing about docility, want of time |

Want is far important is results and lets agree for a date and be decisive on that quickly. I clearly am not on the path of doing nothing nd expecting sth. I have always concluded by asking for inputs cos it takes some level of intelligence at least to get past thru a scholarship process of this nature. However, in event of a lopsided information or excuse laden session with NDDC - the media and protest option remains open. We not visiting NDDC for tea party or preaching session. They know how to salvage less than 200 scholars they normally sponsor yearly. So in case anybody working in liaison with NDDC thinks a flimsy excuse would not hold any water. Demand at this time is only favorable response, beneficial to all. Thanks and God bless!!! |
