Fellow nairalanders, pls i urgently need your advise. Is there a real difference btw a quadcore & octacore phones. I saw a quadcore with gorilla glass 2 phone i love to buy but when i come across this octacore phone(no gorilla glass), am really confused which one to go for. Actually, i read a write -up stating the only advantage of an octacore phone is the speed of operation & multi-tasking & it was stated quadcore is the best for smartphones extra cores are of no need but was pushed out for marketing . Pls who can explain this to clear confusion hanging in the air on this topic"A Quadcore or an Octacore?

Quadcore hardwares have 4 areas of processor for operation. Octacore has 8. Thing is 4 is quite OK for an ideal smartphone. 8 will need more ROM space and battery power for no big deal

no friend i just open the thread to allow experts on smartphones clarify this issue. I discovered that 60percent of smartphone users dont know what processor really means & its determing factor in choosing a smartphone. I have search google & 80percent confirm quadcore okay 4 smartphone but why d production of an octacore? When 4 core wil serve a phone effectively.

you are right friend but an octacore wönt be produce if it has no benefit.

I think they are both the same, and octa core need more battery thats why they are clock round 1ghz bt quadcore is clocked up to 3ghz.

It's just the extra power for multitasking. Quadcore has dedecated 4 cores for proccessing while octarcore have 8 cores, the importance of octercore in a smartphone may be questionable just like puting a v8 engine inside toyota camry.

thanks collinz2 but having more cores, 8cores now, conserved the batt but 4 cores drains batt more. As discovered from a write-up, the more the numbers of cores in d processors, d lesser d energy drained frm batt. This is because, more cores shares tasks and execute it effectively. The power require by dual cores in task executioning is higher because d cores will place a force on d batt to drive out required energy to meet up wit tasks running. Remb u can perform up to 4 tasks on dual cores 2geda with background running app. So 4 2 cores phones, 2 meet up with this tasks without slowing down d phöne, batt wil suffer. But 4 or 8 core conserves d batt due 2 d number of cores But i need a cogent reason of having a octacore
