waternogetenemy:How did the OP reason from an ethnic perspective? The last time i checked, the OP is a Yoruba whose number one prefered candidate according to this thread of his is Oby Ezekwesili, an Igbo woman The Op is an Ijebu man whose number two prefered candidate is Governor Ifashola, an Awori man. The Op is a yoruba whose number three prefered candidate is Buhari a Fulani man. So what is ethnocentric/tribal about his thread? 17 Likes |

naijababe: Madam, you have to shun idealism and, for now, view issues pragmatically and realistically in eelation to want obtains today and what Nigeria must do to get back on track. Let us not fool ourselves. 2011 proved conclusively that Buhari is one of the very few leaders who can defeat GEJ who is a champion of corruption many will fight for and defend with their wealrh and sweat. I supported Ribadu in 2011 yet how well did he do? Should we gamble again, lose and get another 4 years of corruption-centred misrule because we want to be "forward thinking ", perhaps because we are in the educated and politically sophisticated minority, when the majority who will vote think very differently to me and you? With Buhari we have the twin benefits of hosting a guaranteed vote-winner who will also shun corruption and , most importantly, empower the most talented to lead everywhere. It is not about wanting an Obama or Cameron-type President because that is what our world view of progress indicate to us personally. This is the mistake some of us made in 2011 and Nigeria suffered terribly for our elitist refusal to face the reality of our own people. It is about recognising the reality of Nigeria and working with that reality pragmatically till we can have a nation and electorate that will routinely embrace the Ribadus and Fasholas of the world for our top job. We are not at all at that level and must not fool ourselves that this is the case merely because a few of us would go out to vote an Utomi or EL-Rufai. This is the time to drop individual ego and think in terms of what is best for Nigeria and who the majority will embrace in what is now a desperate fight to rescue our nation from a corrupt and private jet-owning oligarchy. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Obiagelli: What link? If you did not watch the debate na you know Youtube may be able to come to your rescue sha. I watched both debates; GEJ shamelessly debating himself and Ribadu, Shekarau and Buhari after GEJ chickened out of the joint one. The clear winner that night was Shekarau if anyone remembers. 2 Likes |

OAM4J: And what has ethnic sentiment achieved for us as one nigeria? Are we as Nigerians held hostage by our lingustic difference becos wen it comes to ethicity we are all Africans. If we continue to allow people like urself that are not ready to embrace change take the lead then we will never attain the status of United States of Nigeria. U have to understand that their are no quick fix to governance and development challenges. U have to understand that power has no base, else Obama will not be President. There are people in America that condemn Obama and say he is a failed President but America will never allow them take centre stage becos those people are identified as regressive. what does having a man that ruled over ur parents rule over you say about the level of stagnation in our society. First it was OBJ who ruled in the 1970s and now it is Buhari who ruled in the 1980s, then u complain of unemployment? U seriously need to reassess ur priorities bro. 5 Likes |

Gbawe: If you can tell me how Buhari intends to get past our ridiculously inept and corrupt law-makers I just might agree with you. He is no doubt a popular candidate and one capable of wresting votes from Goofluck, which is why my preference is for him to use his might to anoint a younger, more vibrant and articulate candidate 1 Like |

naijababe: GEJ is a disaster only to the extent that he is not a good orator. That much I can readily admit. As far as performance is concerned he is better than all previous presidents in our recent history and the state governors of the so-called opposition trying to replace him at the centre. His SYSTEMATIC approach rather than Ad-Hoc, media-friendly-but-yielding-little-results attack on corruption has yielded greater results in the federal administration's delivery of infrastructure that were hitherto budgeted for annually but never done. Moreover our legislators are constitutionally empowered to investigate and impeach the president, state governor and (I believe) even the LGA chairman just as the US Congress impeached Bill Clinton. For those who may not be aware, our 1999 constitution is almost a carbon copy of the American constitution. Below is an excerpt on Clinton's impeachment by the US House of Representatives => Independent counsel investigation More importantly our democratic space has grown significantly under his leadership with greater INDEPENDENCE of the other arms (legislative & judiciary) of the federal government as well as the other tiers (states & LGA). The big question we should ask ourselves as citizens of this potentially great country is how have we used the expanding democratic space to make our elected public servants more responsive to our legitimate needs. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Can we ever have a situation in America whereby Gerge W Bush senior returns to contest for Presidency? Can we have a situation in Britain that Tony Blair will return to contest for Presidency? Can we have a situation in South Africa when Thabo Mbeki will return to contest for Presidency? Can we have a situation in Ghana where Jerry Rawlings wil return to contest for Presidency? Only in Nigeria do we have grannies running for president as former president. 5 Likes |
