project774: First off - I appreciate your concern for my well being but I'm more concern for my fellow brothers & sisters suffering in silence plus I don't hv to be d president's daughter or Employee Rights Activist to speak my mind. Second - Its only Defamatory if it is a lie... I can assure you, its not! Just A few weeks back they ALL refused to work. Reason - IHG Hotel did not pay its staff & other reasons, they had to involve Big Brother (Labour) Third - I laugh in Arabic. Recognised me? Destroy my career! I like to see them try to sue me. There is that word again DEFAMATORY. Watch yourself! You are beginning to sound like such companies... Finally - Is it ok for companies to slander an employee but employee can not do the same, especially if it is the truth? When has speaking the truth become a bad trait? If we can voice our grievences and justice can prevail then I hope it would make companies with bad attitudes & others that plan to copy them - take note & sit up. As for hiding my profile, is dat not what got us Nigerians into this mess in the first place? Fear of EVERYTHING!!! If Late FELA had kept quiet... ..we would not know the truth about our government today. Believe it or not, I am doing the right thing 126 Likes 10 Shares |

Globacom. Terrible managerial skills is making it crumble by the day. The workers are not motivated at all. No promotion till thy kingdom come. Its a huge shame cos Globacom is supposed to be our indigenous pride but its grossly mismanaged. 11 Likes 4 Shares |

Any company with indians as managers or top executives should be avoided. They are as useless as the b in debt. They will ridicule you yet pay you as low as 20k as a graduate. 10 Likes 5 Shares |

Don't know what to say, I just think you all should learn to love where you work first.... Why all the comments? My office (A hotel) pays me before 3rd of any month..you are given loan anytime you need it, though i can't see myself asking sha. My DMD is a nice person. No matter how small the errand i go for her is, she tells me thank you. I love her and the way she runs the business. Am putting my very best to do the job i was employed for and even more so when i move to a bigger place,i'll contribute more to the company than come on nairaland to mention names and fall our own hands. How well do you value where you work than you wanting your company to value you when you have just nothing to offer. My MD and the wife is also a minister in redeem. 7 Likes |

This a very good thread...we have to start speaking up against evil...Most employers have taken advantage of the unemployment situation in the country to torture nigerians pshycologically and strip pple of there self esteem. Aside from salary delay, owing employees and slandering employees let's not forget to include workplace bullying and bad working conditions like the factories operated by chinese, indians, lebaneSe and nigerian managers where they don't consider employee health and safety, employees lose arms, limbs and even die and no one says anything and the company continueS to operate. Can this chinese, indians and lebanese go to other countries and subject the citizens to poor/dangerous working conditions plus bad pay like the way they do to nigerians. OP nice one...let the exposure continue. -MenGoingThereWay. 2 Likes |

I still don't know why most Nigerians preffers to search for job in these twenty first century instead of creating one from scrash and watch it grow by monitoring it for few years. The CEO/MD of these firms are taking most nigerians for a ride, since they know over 90% of our graduates believe in using the USELESS PAPER CERTIFICATE OFFERED BY UNIVERSITIES in and outside Nigeria for job hunting and not using the knowledge they have acquired for creating jobs that will absorb others. You people should stop making noise, if you are not comfortable with your current firm, then resign, your firm knows hundreds more like you will apply to fill the vacant space. If foreigners like LEBANESSE, INDIA and CHINESE smile back to their country as a result of the ROI from there investment, i see know excuse while millions of our graduates especially engineers roaming our streets in search of a job that do not exist. Nigeria is the best place to invest in because of the cheap labour due to the over saturated labour market, in effective labour laws due to corruption in NLC and government officials. To be successful in life is not easy especially in these part of the world but it pays in the long run. Start a business in a less competing niche and watch it grows, I hope in few years someone will invite me for a drink. 11 Likes 1 Share |

HALOGEN SECURITY COMPANY, they will turn you to a slave. Most private companies are guity of these, taking advantage of the unemployment situation in the country to commit evil, yet when you visit the mosques and churches you see them in front and in top positions, they always want to be worship because they gave you job. I had an early experience and i thought about the future and came up with the truth "BUSINESS" it's really paying me well, no more eye-service, worship, sir-sir, ma-ma, i have my peace and quality times. And i hope to build my business to greater heights for my children to take over. As for government and labour unions who are supposed to regulate the labour market but have failed, they should take a clue from the U.S.A and other western organizations they don't take the issue of slavery or maltreated of employees lightly. It's unfortunate that asian companies have taken advantage of our governments' failures to turn nigerians to slaves. Take a lock at the economical status of these three countries and you will understand the concept of slavery; NIGERIA, CHINA and INDIA, the economies of these countries are growing heavily but at the same time greater number of the citizen are getting poorer while a microscopic few are stickily rich. 3 Likes |

First of all let me clarify that no company will sue anyone (whether staff or an outsider) if the company's own side of the agreement (contract) with staffs and clients have been breached. So do not fear guys. I was personally surprised to hear about AIT/ Ray Power owing staffs up to a years salary. Someone mentioning it here also just affirmed it. I also heard yesterday from a friend of mine who worked with USAID. Yes USAID!!! You heard me right. They owed him like 5 months salary till he decided to leave. He told me he worked for four months before ever getting at least one salary from them. Couldn't believe my ears. He mentioned that he gave testimony at church when he got the job not knowing it was a trap he fell into. I also heard PH is owing corpers their state salaries from the set that left in 2012 or so. It is so sad. PM news too. I have a very distant friend who used to work with them and always complain about the non-payment of salaries. Don't know how true and if the condition has changed now. Most one man business and private companies in Nigeria are guilty of this. The economy is so unfavorable that it affects these organizations. However, some of them are just plain bad. Most of these companies face challenges such as: Logistic challenges. Low patronage. Epileptic power supply. Everybody can testify how much they spend on diesel at work daily. High cost of internet. Government tax. Expensive rent for office spaces. It is sad. This however is not a reason to owe your staff. Employ those you can pay and do not depend on projections totally. Understand the realistic circumstances of our environment and grow at a "stealthy" rate. Disclaimer: I have never worked for these companies but they were information I gathered directly from friends so it is not a participant experience. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

tebirim: You got me wrong bro. I wish you well in your pursuit. I will also like to clarify that I can never complain about my job for any reason on a social network. If the condition of service is not favorable, it is only wise to move on. I just wanted you to clarify what you were saying and I feel you are smart enough to do so. tebirim: Evidently you do not seem to understand what this thread is all about. Someone(unlike you) who works 8am to 7pm daily while being forced to endure many insults and indignities from his/her boss topped off with a monthly stipend that barely covers transportation costs will have more than enough to vent about. The simple fact that people have to express their frustrations about their jobs on a forum like this(no matter how inappropriate it may seem) should tell you that there is something very wrong with these companies. I sure won't have a reason to complain if my company treats me as I ought to be treated. Some persons worked really hard to acquire the education they using to pursue these so called jobs and some of these CEOs and MDs are barely educated to your level so they have it out for you even without the poor work conditions getting to u. Don't be insensitive, if ur boss treats u right and ur work conditions are okay, be thankful. There are people out there who will give anything to be in ur position. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Low patronage, I disagree with that completely, because they would have shut down.As regard government tax, most small and medium organisation only pay the statutory tax monthly, others are negotiated NairaMode: 1 Like |

MenGoingThereWay:My brother , all developing countries as a weak labour law and same apply to Nigeria. The force of demand and supply comes in to consideration, those demanding for job as out numbered the available jobs position in multiple. firms find it easy to exploit their staffs because they know their staffs needs the job badly to survive and in case if things goes wrong they could easily replace them from the labour market. Our government have to turn blind eye against the maltreatment of Nigerians since they are badly in need of foreign investment which will absorb the labour market. Labour laws will only be implemented and effective if supply of labour equals or exceeds demand as the case is in developed country. The way out for now is to start a business in a less competing niche and watch it grows. |

If you work for a month and don't get paid.. Make sure you keep a calm face and ask why.. If your boss answers rashly, don't fret. Apologize and tell him not to worry that business is going to be better soon. On your way back home make sure you buy credit for two things. 1. To subscribe for a monthly plan so you can start applying left, right, and center. 2. To call n text your network of contacts telling them you're in the market for job (no shame in it). Get bck n polish off your Resumé, placing your recent quantifiable contributions to ur current n past work. Spread the net wide but specific enough so you don't end up applying for wrk you're not made for (I saw a maritime guy applying for lufthansa pilot once all in the name of leaving no stone unturned). Hopefully you've been applying some saving principles n not living paycheck to paycheck. Now is the time to break that piggy bank open cz trust me, there's no time to experience another month or two of work without pay. And make sure when reaching out to potential helpers, your boss dsnt find out. Always treat him/her politely even as you're planning to leave their company. I cannot imagine being subjected to inhuman working conditions (consistent verbal assault, poor HSE, nasty long hours without commensurate pay, and worst of all working and getting paid with stories of why I'm not getting my salary) n still remain there. Impossible! Please people, you owe it to yourself to value your self enough to leave such establishments. Most importantly, we need to have a good financial plan in place where at least 10-20% of our salaries go untouched. Save it WITHOUT fail and keep your mind open to opportunities to invest it. Not stupid get rich quick investments but sustainable ones that you can save from. If you earn 50,000 and save 20% of it every month for 12 months you'll have 120,000 at the end of the year in liquid cash. It's a confidence booster for the day when new devilish management takes over and feel they own your soul because they pay your salary. And remember, always network with people if you're just starting out at the company. And make sure to apply good financial planning so you won't be stuck enduring month after month of no pay. PS. The 20% you save is your exit strategy if you need one AND NOT to survive on till your employer starts paying again. I've seen ppl eat up their savings while 'enduring' with a wicked unpaying employer and finally crumble in despair, depression, and hunger when all is lost on these evil employrs that would rather club n pay for prostitutes with your salary than pay it to you or worse yet use it to furnish their pastor's house than give it to you. Don't fall victim. Plan your financial future well. Shalom. 11 Likes 1 Share |
