Our power supply (to prevent naija power palava ) Note, the Hbeam has a cheaper (fake) variation, please, measure thickness, if the beam is not 4mm thick then u are buying the "light" version and the Standard Organization Nigeria(SON) has banned the "light" beam, it is responsible for a lot of collapsed structures and especially bill boards.

Very tight work space, there is barely 2 meters clearance from the building (An hospital) and where the hopital's land ends so it was a big challenge for the geologist and the driller. The other free space was too close to the hospitals septic-tank. So this remained the best spot.

Ready to drill. Overburden is at 5meters Termination at 45/48meters I salute Mr. Akano (the geologist), his surveys are always scaringly accurate. And he puts up a good report too without wasting time. Only worked with 3 other geologists that are as good as he is. #thumbs up

Drilling the overburden first (Removal of the top soil)

Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by DRealGeesam(m): 2:40pm On Oct 17, 2014 |
The overburden is 5 meters for this borehole. The overburden is usually very unstable, that is why we. use a metal "casing" to hold it all through the drilling process. Else it would collapse. The rig uses compressed air to flush the hole as drilling goes on. Very thick overburden is usually not good. And case must be taken to case properly after drilling

Water!!! Hurrah!!! NOT SO FAST! That water you see is what we call surface water. It has very high coliform load (contains a lot of microbes) Usually not fit for drinking. At this point some drillers may tell you that their job is done, at least u can see water gushing out. This is not professional at all. Apart from the water not good for domestic use, it is also seasonal, it will dry up when the dry season sets in. Also it can be responsible for overheating and eventual damage of your submersible pump, cos it dries up quickly and causes what is called "dry-running" of the pump.

Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by DRealGeesam(m): 3:14pm On Oct 17, 2014 |
Now at the aquifer Your clean water actually comes from cracks (called faults in geology) in the bed rock. You can see that black "soil" around the rig, that is actually pulverized rock. Yes, Rock, crushed to powder. Now we can trust the water we get (though it could still contain mineral imbalances especially sulphur in some areas) If there is too much sulphur, their will be a sort of mild rotten smell, if there is too much iron, the water pumps out could be redish), leave the analysis to the experts

This is the pump we will be using. Grundfos Sqflex 2.5 (actually one out of over 13 series they have that can use solar power) Arguable the best in the world. My "parents" have been using one for over 20years now, never gave them any problem not even once. Got three here from euxwell at GRA ikeja. It can use solar power, battery and electricity from the main grid or generator. Meaning it is a DC and AC pump all in one.

Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by DRealGeesam(m): 5:38pm On Oct 17, 2014 |
kopell: Here are pictures of the completed project. If this is exactly what you want then. The cost is between 1.2M and 1.9M naira This will cover every thing and takes 3 days to complete that is after the casting of the foundation. Please note that this price is ONLY if u are following the exact design and specifications of this project. For home applications, the price can be very much cheaper. I will give a cost breakdown at the soon. Note again, there are lots of options that will determine the cost. The stanchion costs about 250,000 (with wire fencing and gate) Note: each of those Hbeams cost about N22,000 The solar panels 8X22,000 The solar pump 240,000 The drilling 400,000 Brick work and plumbing etc cost about 35,000 The tanks (2 X 4500 Liters)90,000 So cost depends on the nature of the job (specifications) we wont charge much for services to individuals and will give u designs that are pocket friendly. If u need to know the cost of anything (especially materials) pls ask. 1 Like 1 Share

DRealGeesam: Thanks for the detailed answers... that is a very good and reasonable price for the commercial projects. Can you please then give us the poor man's "Home Applications" estimate. I am sure that is what Kopell is getting at. Thanks. Hajji M. 1 Like |

DRealGeesam:please can you give more details on cost and maintenance practises for this. will a single hole use all 3. is this industrial or domestic |
Re: Solar Power & Boreholes Jobs (FULL Pictures) Ask ANY questions NO SECRETS by DRealGeesam(m): 6:45pm On Oct 17, 2014 |
mufutau55: Oh! Lol Ok If the building is not a storey building, then an 18 foot 4inch diameter pole can be cut into 2. Each pole costs about N11,000. Meaning you just need 2 of such poles for your 4 legs. You will need 2"X2" 4mm thick angle bars for the main bracing. 4 will do. Costs about 1,900 each *4 U channels costs 6,500 each *1.5" angle bar for the side ladder and upper railing (guide). 6 will do. Costs 1200 each *2mm sheets. 2 will do. Costs 8,000 each *flat bar 16 ground bolts and 4plates for base. (Premade) costs about N2,000 each (for the size that is ok for home use) You will need to cast the ground bolts in concrete ( the size depends on some factors) About N120,000 should do for the stanchion For a 3bed room flat 2X 2000 liter tanks are ok Costs: 44,000 For the drilling just budget 400,000-750,000 (for motorized, RECOMMENDED) OR 150,000 to 250,000 for hand drilling (Risky in most situations) your choice of pump or if u want to use solar power is left to you. So average would be around N760,000 (not solar powered) Just play around the figure and options. Thank you sir 2 Likes |

peaceland: The pump is both domestic and industrial. No, u only need one. we used only one The pump costs between 240,000 and 265,000 (even 320,000 in some places) depending on where you get it. Maintenance: it is a "smart pump" you dont need to do anything to maintain it except the conditions of ur borehole are not suitable. All things being equal, u shldnt even need to ever repair it for any reason. NOTE: there are submersible pumps as cheap as N16,000, so you dont have to buy this expensive one unless u intend using solar power. Thank you |
