Amisom, KDF forces.
oga Henry i ve noticed somethings about the various pictures you and other posters ve been posting.
1. The pictures posted for the southafrican security services " shows" a well equipped security and trained security service( since most of the pictures are from training exercises) with very good public relation.
2. The Kenyan defence force photos are focused mainly on their land based assets and their efforts in AMISOM.
3. I ve also noticed that the photos posted here for AMISOM are very professional and does not only capture the military equipment but also give the viewer a scenic view of the area.
4. The nigerian navy seems to be the only nigerian security service releasing professional photos to the public. This have built and nurtured the false idea that the nigerian military is a large poorly equipped and poorly trained security service.
5. The nigerian defence industries and foreign defence industries based in Nigeria like proforce, DICON, BVST ( bulgarian) have been poorly covered here.

This are some of my observations.

Well to be honest most Africans believe that their defence force are weak and unprofessional, because of the bad publicity we get from local and foreign media, its the same situation here in S.A the average person doesn't know a thing about our Defence they think all of our soldiers are fat lazy and they never do anything, its because we don't have that Major PR like western countries , our Media only reports the bad things, they never really show any support for the defence Force, plus our Military leaders themselves don't like sharing information about their operations.

I also think that if the Nigerian Government did more to show its people that the Military is working there A**es off to deal with Boko-haram, people would showed actually support instead of criticising them, maybe they should copy Israels style of Military propaganda.

South-Africa has a well drilled military, and a sophisticated, well developed defence media. It also helps that their photos are training photos, it's one of the sure ways to build patriotism amongst the rest of the population, and build confidence in the military. So, if there's a major military exercise, even if the DOD or mainstream media do not release photos of the exercise, you are 99.9% certain that defence related media outlets would.

2) like the rest of Africa, the same problem/ soviet era mentality plaguing the Nigerian military, also affects militaries of Kenya, Uganda and the rest of Africa. Amisom is an A.U led mission, this is why photos are released, including photos of the Nigerian police FPU in Somalia. Amisom in many was has been a spectacular success for the A.U, so the A.U wants to as much as possible leverage on this success story.

3) Amisom Photos, just like the SANDF photos are professionally taken, in many ways, Amisom photos are even better. The man reason for this is, Amisom forces, especially the Ugandans embedded experienced, war photo-journalists in their operations. So, the Ugandans get 70% of Amisom photo publicity. While the Kenyans, burundians, Ethiopians et al share 30%.

The last KDF photos were top notch.

4) yes, the Nigerian navy is the only arm of the Nigerian military that releases photos, yet, even they, have also stopped. The last officially released NN photos were from Exercise African winds in November of 2013. From that time till today, the Nigerian Navy has carried out 5-6 Major training exercises (obangame 2014, Majepo, Joint Chinese anti-piracy drills, 2 Joint exercises with the British, a large combined west-African drill), yet not a single photo from the Navy. The much smaller exercise would be calling for too much from the navy.

Exercise Majepo was a live firing exercise which involved 10 naval platforms, held at the eastern naval command in calabar. Yet, nothing.

The Nigerian navy has greatly improved the reputation of the Nigerian military, and unless they revert to their active P.R, their efforts would be lost.

5) Defence companies operating in Nigeria are grossly under-reported, this is a shame. They also vary from production to maintenance, boats, vessels, APC, protective gear et al.

Inkas has a production facility in Nigeria (canada).
Streit group another Canadian company has a maintenance facility.
Proforce Defence
DICON
DICON/Proforce MOU on the production of APC's.
Arza Armouring
there's also a Chinese company that produces APC's in Nigeria, V.P Sambo alluded to this.
Mekahog
Mondant

So, this sector is under-reported. The companies should also learn how to market themselves.

Oga Henry, any idea about the specs of the IGIRIGI? The new version seems different from the NADCEL variant.

The Specs aren't public knowledge, however, since it's an LAV, it's specs should be just under the Otokar Cobra, with a Range of 900km/ 110km top speed.

It's ballistics level would comfortably take sustained GPMG fire and grenade blast.

The new version is an improved variant of the original prototypes, seen at NaDCEL. Improvements were bound to be made to the final thing which we see today.

My only problem is, I don't trust the government to sustain it. The blue-print should be sold to private nigerian firms.

As we can see, it's just an improved variant.

The Streit cougar and Proforce PF2 MK2 are similar.

Same as Inkas recently launched LAPV, and Proforce Leopard ACV.

5 Days ago, KDF killed 5 suspected terrorists(alshabaab) after they refused to stop and opened fire on the soldiers (No soldier was killed) along the Kenya-Ethiopia border- The vehicle was later found to have 100kgs of TNT and about six suicide vests. Military Intelligence said the vehicle unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry into Kenya at another border point. Now the Westgate terrorist used the Uganda-Kenya boder to gain entry into Kenya so they wouldn't be suspected of being terrorist. Both these countries (Uganda & Ethiopia) have a presence in Somalia. I know Kenya police might be allitle bit corrupt but how comes Alshabaab is so determined to make a big dent in Kenya. Not that i wan't them to harm Ugandans or Ethiopians. Or is it because we have a free media and they know they will get front page cover even with the smallest of incidence'? Or have they just grown to really hate us!

On other related issues. News just in, KDF have killled 80 Alshabaab in a town near the one they captured last-week-but-one as they charge forward operation indian ocean

Its an impressive feat..To be honest, I expected the Army to shelve the project after the NADCEL "showcase"...To think that they developed improved versions is just impressive..I'm sure the Army will invest in the project fully..about 300-500 units will do..then we can switch the Hiluxes to logistics roles..Proforce developed an IFV..I saw some virtual images on the net some time a go..I think it was a 30mm armed IFV..can't seem to find the photos online anymore..Bravo to the Corps of Engineers..

Terrorists crave attention, Kenyan been the east-africa hub for major news networks, would provide them the much sort after publicity they desire.

Westgate attack remains a grim reminder. This probably is the reason Kenya is always favoured for their cowardly acts.

I don't trust the army to sustain it. Armies in general are formed to fight, not to build stuff. The problem is worse with the Nigerian army. My advocacy has been for the army to sell off the blueprint to other Nigerian companies.

Proforce has a new IFV in the pipeline, the french are assiting them in the build, this info was made known by the CEO of the company. It is that build i'm highly anticipating. I hope not to be disappointed at the end.

The IGIRIGI should be Stanag Level 2, it can be upgraded to level 3.

Raptor 3 and Umbani stand-off munitions

Umbani is integrated but not acquired (not that we know of anyway)

Raptor 3 is nearing the end of its development cycle, and I suspect, it too will be integrated but not acquired.
