Why Ants Carry the Bodies of their fellow Dead Ants, Have you ever wondered what Ants used these bodies for? This brings me to my short little story. When I was a child, I was filled with so much curiosity, I wanted to know more about them. I will always sit by their house or should I say hole and quietly hide and wait to see what they were up to. I must say they are really amazing creatures. Do you know, they actually perform a funeral for their loved ones? The Queen and other aunts will just gather round the bodies of the dead ants pay their last respect and then they head for the cemetery. I made a research today to confirm all this. Please Learn and Enjoy.

It makes evolutionary sense to move debris out of your tunnels, to recognize dead ants as things that need to be carried away so they don't block a passage or spread disease. Ant colonies (generically speaking) have a garbage dump on the outskirts of the colony. Trash, poo, and dead members of the colony are put in the dump. Interestingly, the ants that work in the dump are the oldest members of the colony. Dump worker is sort of your retirement job as an ant since you're close to death and will end up there anyway. So why carry dead ants to the dump if they die outside of the nest?

Most of what ants do is hardwired into their tiny little brains: instinct. I speculate that they don't differentiate between in the nest and outside of the nest when they come across a dead member of their colony on a trail. A worker running along a trail comes upon another dead worker and the instinct to move it to the dump just clicks in. Compiled by Edidiong J Uwah.

SURATUL NAML. The 27th SURA in the Holy Qur'an (THE ANTS)

Significance Of The Title

The sura's name is taken from the ants whose conversations were understood by Solomon.Similar to Sura 13 (The Thunder) or Sura 29 (The Spider), The Ants has no thematic significance in the Sura beyond it being a familiar phrase amongst believers, a reminder of the sura's story of Solomon.

It should be noted, however, that ants do hold a privileged status among animals in Islam on account of the story of Solomon. Hadith literature tells of the Prophet Muhammad forbidding Muslims to kill the ant, bee, hoopoe, or shrike; it is no coincidence that the are both featured in Sura 27 and that Sura 16 is entitled The Bee. One interpretation for the ant's theological significance coincides with its role historically. As written in the 1993 edition of the Encyclopaedia of Islam, "Since early Antiquity, ants have been an object of admiration on account of ... the feverish activity with which they provide for their sustenance and the perfect organisation of their societies." This perfect organization under one cause correlates well with the Islamic idea of obedience, or ibadah.

To buttress you observation, the ants don't usually recognise that their "comrade" is dead until about 2days later, this is due to the fact that the dead ant begins to emit what is called oleic acid which is an indicator that the ants are dead and decaying , thus instinctively they carry the dead to the dump site.
