For instance, suffering is when a person is bathing a part of your body with hot scalding water. How we react to it differs. Some can bear the pain, others can't

That's for Arrows, a particular act musta laid rise to the statement.

Try to relate it with normal life experiences and see how disjointed it would appear.

In life, pain is inevitable, it's always there. It could come in any form, either physically or emotionally. But when we choose to stay clamped to such situation and move along in life with the pain in our memory, then we're suffering.

You may decide to get rid of the painful memory and move on, still your call. Suffering is optional.

But then again, the statement could be right, depending on the scene it was opined and the act that led to it being said.
