patches689:you should try to always temper down your urges to tell 'false truths',do you consider your dormant troops in sudan as an active 'battalion'?,pray tell me,what job is this 'battalion' of yours doing?,they are dormant soldiers, just like nigeria still has dormant troops in liberia and seirra leone!,send troops into somalia and libya,i would have thought zuma will send battalions into libya after all the noise and hot air he blew during the libyan 'revolution',at least to save his face.nigeria has peace keeping troops in somalia and south sudan under the AU task force aegis, apart from that we are fighting terrorism at home!,you cant expect us to continue doling out battalions like chocolate bars!,what is south africa doing?,simply nothing! 1 Like 1 Share |

As confirmed by NAMIBIAN sources!!! Lolzy lolly lol Must I repost the citations? And, dude, are you being serious? Average SANDF troepie was 17 to 19 - just like all conscripts across the world. And I can post many pictures of SADF youngsters in Angola. Do you want me to? Now both your arguments are in tatters. 2 Likes

DieVluit:what are you saying, nigerian troops never ran away from boko haram, havent you heard of the term 'tactical retreat'?,boko haram have mastered the terrain perfectly, the NA was pinned at all sides in a well planned and crafted ambush and assault, the NA had two options(1)to break formation and press into enemy lines at all sides{which while it would have taken down hundreds of terrorists,is still folly as the whole place was rigged and they were outnumbered without immediate ground reinforcement, and no space to manouver} or (2)retreat backwards into cameroonian territory to avoid been completely surrounded, what did you expect them to do?,charge into the fray into certain death by ambush or retreat to fight another day?,why did the SANDF retreat when they recieved enough pummelling from seleka rebels?.fighting terrorists isnt conventional warfare, its about effective strategy and surgical strikes! 1 Like 1 Share |

Twenty-six African military attaches in South Africa There are currently 26 African countries with military representation at embassies and high commissions in South Africa – seven more than South Africa has posted on the continent. Accepting credentials from new heads of diplomatic missions last month, President Jacob Zuma said South Africa attached the greatest importance to continental bodies such as the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Regional Development Community (SADC). This has seen South African military attaches posted to 19 cities on the continent. African countries with military level representation at embassy and high commission level in South Africa are Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo (Republic), Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) listing of the 58 foreign countries represented in South Africa shows by far the majority of military attaches and advisors are either colonels or naval captains with a few exceptions such as wing commander, brigadier and, in one instance, simply “general”. 1 Like

EXCELLENT PRODUCT FROM NAMIBIA Namibian company Windhoeker Maschinenfabrik (WMF) has unveiled its new Mk III mine-protected armoured personnel carrier, which will enter production in January next year. The vehicle made its public debut at the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) show last month, alongside the exhibition debut of WMF’s Marrua 4x4. WMF partnered with Brazil’s Agrale to assemble Agrale vehicles in 2011. Brigadier General (Rtd) J V Auala, CEO of the Ministry of Defence’s August 26 Holding Company, of which WMF is a subsidiary, said the Mk III vehicle is relatively light and thus versatile and was developed in response to requests for a lighter armoured vehicle. Development began less than a year ago. The Mk III is currently undergoing trials ahead of production beginning in January 2015. It has yet to be given an official name other than the Mk III. 2 Likes

What were the Nigerians saying about Russia again? http://en.itar-tass.com/russia/756723 Russia, Brazil, South Africa discuss possibility of joint military products development LE BOURGET, October 27. /TASS/. Russia, Brazil and South Africa are considering a possibility of joint development of military purpose products, deputy director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Anatoly Punchuk said on Monday. He is leader of the Russian delegation at Euronaval 2014 (International Naval Defence and Maritime Exhibition and Conference). “In terms of BRICS [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] a series of major projects with India is being implemented now. South Africa shows more interest in cooperation with Russia in the joint development and production of military weaponry,” Punchuk said. Earlier, Russia’s state corporation, Rosoboronexport, director-general Anatoly Isaikin told TASS that Russia, Brazil and South Africa were planning to hold talks within BRICS before the yearend. According to earlier reports, Russia is planning to sign a contract on the Pantsir air defense missile and artillery systems before the end of the year. Russia proposes Brazil to improve technological cooperation on supplies of the Pantsir-S1 air defence and artillery systems, Punchuk said. After the demonstration tests for the Brazilian delegation in September “active talks are continuing”, he said. 1 Like

The Enemy brushed you aside like a piece of cloth. The Nigerian army has lost no town to boko-haram, as operations are continuing in those areas. In your cowardly case, not only were your troops completely decimated, you didn't have the balls to go back in, just like the cowards you are. Instead FOMAC and French troops had to come in to clean your mess. |

patches689: Unfortunately for you, the Special task force can't save you from been the murder capital of the world. How ironic. Let us look at Nigeria. We have troops in Liberia = 1500 Sierra-leone = 1500 Equatorial guniea Sao-tome and principe Ivory coast Sudan South-sudan Mali Police officers Liberia Somalia Sudan Mali We give military grants to, Equatorial guinea = 5million Mali Liberia = 5million The Nigerian government and people do not abandon our African brothers, we didn't abandon you (south-africa), we didn't abandon Mali, Liberia, ivory Coast, in the early 90's we intervened in Chad, sierra-leone, liberia and Somalia despite been under crippling sanctions. We have shown and proven multiple times to be a formidable fighting force. The SANDF has shown to be a military of cowards, led by cowards and operates under a cowardly doctrine. The SANDF is in a sad deteriorating and continues to decline state. Lesotho would take on the SANDF and flaw you guys. Anyway, they already showed they can. We have a rich, proud military history. 2 Likes |

Henry120: You're hurting, dude. The picture below says not only are we active, but we are EFFECTIVE. Can't say the same for the Nigerian military. The world has even forgotten that there's actually a state of emergency in Nigeria. Is there a longer running state of emergency in history, I wonder? As for the goalie (RIP), I suppose you need a sociology and criminology crash course if you want to put that and 'military' in the same post. The DRC is us dealing with our emergencies, dude. We have signed the Inga dam agreement to deal with South Africa's water and power future. That's what EFFECTIVE military effort is about.

Henry120: The bolded is a strawman. Where did I say "aided"? I said his priority is to COAST, which means doing the least possible so that he looks like he's doing something. The fact that the girls have not been brought back has nothing to do with "priorities". It has everything to do with incompetence. Have you even asked for proof of life? Is the very real possibility of r*pe and other forms of abuse prioritising safety? Those girls should be home by now. Give us a break man. |

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Nobody: 12:33pm On Oct 28, 2014 |
DieVluit: It shows he can think, he, like every other thinking individual knows going in, guns blazing won't help the situation. He doesn't need to coast, he already has popular support. A president who approves the procurement of 40 helicopters, and additional MBT's isn't coasting, a president that runs shuttle diplomacy isn't coasting either, a president that continues to harp on the need to end the proliferation of small arms and light weapons can't be said to be coasting. Probably in south-africa, coasting has an entirely different meaning. |
