LAGOS Is The Worst Place I've Ever Visited — American Travel Expert by chesterlee(m): 9:13am On Oct 31, 2014
Many of us say, "That was the worst place in the world!" But
really: How many of us truly have the authority to say that? Lee
Abbamonte does. He's the youngest American to visit all 193
member nations of the United Nations, and he's well on his way
to visiting all 324 on The Travelers’ Century Club list, which
includes territories and unique destinations in addition to
nations. (Lee expects to have 321 of the 324 countries checked
off by the end of the year).

Below is what he wrote about Lagos
As far as I am concerned, Lagos, Nigeria, is the
worst place on planet Earth. I’ve never
experienced so much corruption in my life. It was
just a horrific experience getting into the country.
Crossing in from Benin, we got shaken down by
the border guards. In addition to the multiple
police shakedowns, the multiple ATM issues were
enough for me; three times in two days, the
machines dispensed the wrong amount of money.
It was oppressive and hot. I couldn’t tell you one
good thing about that place."

Anyone who reads this garbage

So wrong.

I've been using the ATM for over 8 years and more than 1,500 times and I've never received the wrong amount of money from the ATM.

Now, this guy is saying that within two days, the machine dispensed the wrong amount of money 3 times. Abi ATM dey look face?

He should go and sit down.

Abeg which ATM the guy use? Atm dispensing wrong amount? Na to go there with account of N500 and hope for the best. His mind was probably made up even before setting foot on Nigerian soil. Bloody liar.
As for getting shaken up by border guards, he should ask africans the humiliation many face to enter that country of his. Him never jam agbero and lagos is the worst

for an outsider o, lagos will look like hell. Now while i dont appreciate the uncomplimentary picture he used for Lagos (as if it was on the river that he used ATM), i will agree that Lagos is tough to live in. I think the real reason why he rated lagos worst was because Lagos doesnt make any SENSE! there are no rules, anything goes.

In Dafur, you know for sure you could get shot. In Phillipines, you can get kidnapped. In Liberia, you can get ebola. In Lagos....you are not sure what you will face. I live in Abuja. I go to Lagos one time, its area boys that are the problem. Next time, its "one chance" bus that i have to be careful of. Next time, its killer indomie.

You never know what can deal with you in Lagos and that's what foreigners cant handle. You have to sharp and on your feet at all times. i remember the first time i went to Mushin to see a boyfriend several years ago. It was festival time and before you know it, a masquerade was harassing me and my boyfriend. He paid the masquerade and he left us alone. My boyfriend said the way i was walking and looking made me a direct target. EXCUSE ME? I was walking straight and looking ahead, i wasn't looking lost or like JJC. He said I was smiling. No one smiles in Mushin. SO smiling when you are walking makes you a target for people to obtain you? Na wa o. If this makes sense to you, you are from Lagos. If you are still scratching your head as I still am, you are JJC.

If I am a nigerian and i dont understand, abeg pity a poor foreigner.

By the way, i'm sure he tried to collect money from foreign currency bank account and the ATM suaved him with exchange rate. Thats why he felt he got the wrong amount. Same thing would have happened to him if he sat in a bank with a real human

I have received more than what i had in my account at an ATM at Nigerian Breweries HQ in 2008. I was also debitted and not refunded N20,000 at an ATM on Oyin-Jolayemi Access Bank. I wrote letters and complained bitterly but never got my money back. same thing with Skye Bank. There are some Banks ATMs I will never use. but not as frequent as the yahoo traveler mentioned.

It pains me when people judge nigeria base on lagos. Even as a nigerian i can boldly say that lag is hell on earth, having lived in three Other countries both in africa and europe,
there are better cities in nigeria interms of liveability. lagos have good economy but.....
we need to do more on our cities in terms of transport, orderliness, social rules, city directions etc.
think of your self as a foreigner in the middle of lagos talking to a lagos bus driver....... its just crazy to imagine.

though i dont agree lag is the worst in the world, but i think, we realy need to do more,
Also, i have some reservation concerning his ATM experience, i think it should be an xchange rate factor.

I agree with the writer. Lagos is a horrible city to stay. There is no effective mass transit system in lagos, the traffic is horrible, the housing and streets are not planned. No effective security system

PH and Abuja is far better than Lagos. Lagos is one of the most disorganized cities in the world. Lagos is not a world class city. You cant compare lagos to any major African cities like Cairo, cape town, Nairobi, etc. A city like lagos should have a mass transit system like a subway system. Also Lagos housing is not planned and organized. Most streets were design effectively for emergency exit .This was the reason thousands died during the lagos cantoment bomb accident in 2001. There is no effective drainage system in lagos and flooding is an annual problem in lagos. Fashola has tried his best but Lagos still have a long way to go before becoming a world class city.

we share different view on life, apparently we cant see the same things ,you are so willing to serve your white masters so you think what ever comes out of his mouth was right.it is a clear sign that you haven't traveled ,when you do you would see and witness how your white masters really feel about you
