Kano Pillars are Nigerian champions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kano Pillars have won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) for the third successive time.
They now join Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland) and Enyimba as the only Nigerian clubs to have won the premier division three times on the bounce.

The Kano club emerged champions of the Nigerian top flight after defeating relegated Nembe City 4-0 on Sunday.
The League Management Company announced via its Twitter account: "It is technically official! Kano Pillars are Glo Premier League champions for a third consecutive season."

Azeez Shobowale scored twice while Gambo Mohammed returning from injury after several weeks out with a thigh injury got among the goals. The prolific Adamu Hassan also scored as Kano Pillars ran over City 4-0.

Second-placed Enyimba could not keep up the pressure and force the title race down to the final day as they held Dolphins to a 1-1.
Chidiebere Okolie put Dolphins ahead after 54 minutes and Enyimba were left to toil before Mfon udoh scored 21 minutes later.
Kano Pillars, now on 65 points, have opened a four-point lead over Enyimba, making the final game between the two sides next Sunday just elementary.

Warri Wolves who could have also forced the title race to the final day played out a surprise a 1-1 draw against relegation-threatened Gombe United.
Nazim Abutrika gave Gombe United a shock lead inside the opening of the quarter of an hour. Chigozie Agbim saved a penalty off Gbolahan Salami to preserve Gombe United's lead.

But Agbim could not keep out Oghenekaro Etebo's stunner in the 64th minute. Wolves remain in third place on 60 points.
Abia Warriors and Nasarawa United are fourth and fifth respectively. Nasarawa United played a 0-0 draw at Rangers while goals from Marshall Okoro, Chisom Chikatara and Chima Uluocha helped Abia Warriors to a 3-0 win over Sharks.

with just one match to go Kano Pillars have won the league after week 37

KANO PILLARS 4-0 NEMBE CITY

The Sai Masu Gida wrapped up their third consecutive league crown with a game to spare after a 4-0 whitewash of hapless Nembe City at their fortress- Kano Pillars' Stadium on Sunday.

Pillars still need another victory next season to equal the all time record of four successive league triumphs set by the then Inwuanyanwu Nationale(now Heartland FC) in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990.

They will be crowned as league champions at Aba on Sunday when Enyimba who will be needing a win to guarantee their 2015 Caf Champions League ticket.

DOLPHINS FC 1-1 ENYIMBA FC

The People's Elephant lost their zeal to win as they could only settle for a draw in Port Harcourt
in a game a win that could have kept their premier league title ambition alive.

The Pride of Port Harcourt shattered Enyimba's faithful hearts when Chidiebere Okolie got the game's curtain raiser in the 54th minute but Mfon Udoh drew the Aba side level but there was no enough chance to get the second and the match winner with Sunday Rotimi having a good day at the goal posts for the home team.

Kano Pillars have 65pts with goal diff of +18

Eyimba have 61pts with goal diff of +21

Warri Wolves have 60 pts with goal diff of +11

and the last match between Eyimba vs Kano Pillars will be in aba. so even if Eyimba wins by 10 - 0. at best they will get 3 pts to make a total of 64 pts. so even at that Kano Pillars will still be at 65 pts.

so they have already won it even before that game. they will only be crown that day officially.but for now the title is for them

Enyimba's Mfon Udoh breaks NPFL goals record with 21st strike

The former Akwa United forward made it 21 goals in just 37 games against Dolphins to move a goal ahead of Jude Aneke and Emem Eduok on the all-time goalscorers' list

Enyimba striker Mfon Udoh has smashed the Nigeria Professional Football League goals' record by scoring his 21st goal of the season during his side's 1-1 draw with Dolphins at the Liberation Stadium on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Akwa Ibom-born star netted in the 66th minute of Sunday's NPFL Week 37 clash, thus moving him one clear of Jude Aneke and Emem Eduok in the all-time standings.

Udoh, who had 20 goals before the Aba Millionaires' away encounter with Dolphins, grabbed the equalizer at the Liberation Stadium which ensured Enyimba's sixth unbeaten game this season away from home but it was not enough to keep them in the title race as Kano Pillars won the trophy for a third straight time.

The former Akwa United striker, who scored 16 goals last season for the Promise Keepers before he joined Enyimba, has also scored two goals in the Federation Cup to bag 23 goals in all competitions.

The Crocodiles' icon Jude Aneke hit 20 goals in the 2010/11 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League, but Udoh has now surpassed that total. He was neck and neck with Dolphins' striker Eduok who also scored 20 goals this season.

Udoh equaled the all-time highest goals record of 20 goals in the Nigerian league with a brace in a 2-1 win at the Omoku Township Stadium which ensured Enyimba's second consecutive win on the road last Sunday, October 26, 2014.

With a game to go, Enyimba's last match of the season is a formality clash with the new champions Kano Pillars at the Aba Stadium, which means that Udoh has the advantage of increasing his goals tally for the season.

The leading goalscorer will play again in the 2014 Federation Cup finals as Enyimba and Dolphins meet at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on November 23.

Enyimba are second on the log with 61 points from 37 games.

Udoh has been called up to the Super Eagles B team that will take on Ghana's Under-23 side in an international friendly to commission the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo on November 6

If you create a thread on Pillars win, where is the pic for trophy presentation to back it up What of information about those relegated and qualifications to the Champions lge Nairaland doesnt give us much opportunity to have NPFL threads on FP, therefore, we should try and pack much relevant info into a thread and recommend to FP.

the thread is not just about KANO PILLARS but about the Nigerian professional football league (NPFL)
any body could have won it.

in fact so many people expected EYIMBA to win it on the last day that is week 38 match at aba
but unfortunatly they lost out by playing 1 -1 with Dolphine in port harcourt

thus allowing KANO PILLARS who won NEMBE 4 - 0 to win the league

so celebrate nigerias league

Shooting Stars F.C, of Ibadan is the first Nigeria's team to win a continental trophy, the African Cup Winners Cup in 1976.
Goal keeper Best Ogedegbe was part of that team. He later played for the Nigeria national football team (then known as the "Green Eagles") when they won the 1980 African Cup of Nations.

Globacom congratulats Kano Pillars Football Club

Title sponsor of the Nigerian Premier League, Globacom, has congratulated Kano Pillars Football Club for winning the 2013/2014 Glo Premier League.
Kano Pillars club has now won the title for the third consecutive time.

Pillars emerged champions after thrashing Nembe by four goals to nil last week-end, amassing 65 points while the closest rival, Enyimba of Aba garnered 61 points. With 4 points ahead of the pack, the league standing will not be effected even if Pillars lose the last match and Enyimba wins during the final matches coming up this weekend.

Globacom, in a statement issued in Lagos on Monday congratulated the Kano-based team for winning the Premier League for the third time consecutively, having previously emerged the league champions during the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 league seasons.
The company commended the players, coaches and management of the team for its hard work and tenacity which has seen it dominate the Glo Premier League in the last three years, adding that the team should make football loving Nigerians happy by going all out to win the next edition of CAF African Champions League.

“We call on the management of Kano Pillars to start preparation in earnest for the CAF Champions League in order to perform brilliantly during the continental championship” Glo Added.
Globacom also commended the League Management Company (LMC) for its focussed organisation of the league, urging them to keep the flag flying.
“We wish to congratulate the LMC on the successful completion of the 2013/2014 league season, we look forward to a more competitive 2014/2015 season as the LMC gradually moves to restore the glory of Glo Premier League,” Globacom said.
