Please has anyone in the house used Milemaster engine oil 5w-30? I want to start using it as from my next service schedule. kindly advice me if it was ok especially if you bought it from konga or any authorised dealer in Nigeria. If you are a marketer of this oil and you haven't used it in your car, pls do not comment. pls follow this pattern.
1) Are you a user or marketer or both?
2) How long have you been using milemaster?
3) What type of oil filter do you use and how much is it?
4) How many kilometres do you drive before you service your car again?

I use the 5W-20

-I am not a marketer of the oil.
-Started using it since April, 2014.
-Use the service pack, cant remember the name of the oil filter (u can find out on Konga.com)
-Usually wait till the service light starts to blink.
But however i do notice that the oil shortens.....i think it has to do with the car though based on reviews and not necessarily. the oil itself.

Started using their 5w30 recently, mine shorts too

I used Milemaster 5w-30 to serviced my Toyota Camry 1999 and i did not regret using it.

I use the 5w 20. No complaints so far

Its a very good oil. that's what i use to service my Camry 2000 model. i use the 5w-30 because that is the recommended oil for the car.

This 'shortening of oil'. Is it as a result of engine wear or burning of the milemaster oil?

Most likely it is the burning of the oil.

So what will be the solution

I can't say what the exact solution is but i do know that if you have been using a thick oil for too long it would have expanded your seals and the option is to continue in that route but if itz oil burning then it is a default issue with the car in question. one could try another make of the same viscosity and it the results are same then itz nothing to worry about except to check the oil level regularly.

I have been using milemaster 5w20 on 2003 Honda accord and have since done 7000miles and still going. I lost my Bosch filter early at 2000miles or there about to a mechanic puncture which i replaced with the conventional blue honda filter.

My engine oil has been shortening before the milemaster so i have no regrets due to shortage. I experienced better performance with it. The oil on dipstick still looks good tempting me to go all the way to 10,000miles. I have since bought a whole extra 5litre gallon for topping the shortage which has gone just beyond half way. Probably thats why the oil still looks good. I add a quarter of a litre every 600miles.

Chairman. A semi-synthetic / synthetic blend going all the way to 10,000 miles ? Would strongly advise against it. Can the additive pack last that long? Better to be safe than sorry.

I said am considering. I am considering that for economical reasons and also that i have since the initial switch topped with almost 3 litres of the same new milemaster. In other words i have a mixture of good and bad oil with the old one almost totally replaced (4.2 less 3litres). My initial target was 7500miles being half way between recommended 10kmiles with synthetic and 5kmiles with dino.

If there is anything am scared of is the filter.

In my office car, Mobil xhp was used to service and has been on for a yr now which has done almost 20k kilometres and still counting. Their choice not mine.

I'm a distributor of[b] [size=14pt]MileMaster[/size][/b] oil and I also use it.
I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE and the oil remained on the same level for 3 months now.
Shortage is due to engine wear.

(1 & 2) I have been using the Milemaster 5w-20 for my '02 Acura TL since January 2013, For my 2001 Honda Accord (Honda Adidas) since March 2013 and for my 2009 Honda Civic since February 2014.

(3) I use the regular Honda filters in the market.

(4) For the Acura, I do my oil change every 5000km. For the Accord, every 5000km. For the Civic, there is an oil life indicator which tells you when to change oil. As per the oil shortage thing, I have never experienced it in any of my cars.

I am not a distributor for Milemaster but had experience of this in 2 cars. I would detail them here:

1. 2003 Honda Accord LX 4cyl 190K+ miles

Good: More MPGs on highway driving (no gains were observed in-city driving), better acceleration and the car moved like it never had in years.
Bad: Oil shorts - This didn't start immediately as I monitored for it but stopped along the line since I didn't observe any shorting. Only for me to have a CEL one afternoon, I instinctively checked the dipstick and it was just at the low mark!!!
Worsened leaks -Prior to switching to milemaster 5W-20 I just had some negligible wetness. I noticed that this got worse after the switch. It didn't get to the point of dropping on the floor though. Maybe the milemaster cleared some sludge...

2. 2008 Toyota Corrolla 4cyl 89k miles

Good: I didn't observe any change seeing that we just got the car and only serviced it once with 20W-50 prior to using Milemaster.
Bad: None. No oil shorts or leakage.

My advice

If you have any form of wetness or leakage of oil in your engine, I advice you look for conventional oil instead as it would get worse with semi-synthetic. Also oil burning may be related to higher mileage cars. I discontinued it on the Honda but would have continued if not for the leaks.

If you have got the cash...stick with a world renowned brand like Mobil 1, You wont regret it.

OP is concerned about people who have used the MileMaster brand, where it was purchased from, what their experience has been so far, etc . Are you suggesting we should be wary of Milemaster?

If there is something you know that we don't please share and substantiate where necessary.

I have the same honda @117kmiles and have been using Milemaster with exactly the same results. However, i have been experiencing the shortage before the 5w20 and not any better or worst. So, i continued with the Milemaster for its obvious benefits while dealing with the shortage with an extra gallon just for that purpose.

Bros. You are the man! I change mine @ 4000 miles / 6400 kilometres. Not sure I would be courageous to do what you have especially as all my miles are covered within the city. If I travel with my car every now and then perhaps i would stretch it.

Mineral or synthetic motor oil?

Mineral oils are based on oil that comes from dear old Mother Earth which has been refined. Synthetic oils are mostly concocted by chemists wearing white lab coats in oil company laboratories. The only other type is semi-synthetic, sometimes called premium, which is a blend of the two. It is safe to mix the different types, but it's wiser to switch completely to a new type rather than mixing.

Mixing Mineral and Synthetic oils - current thinking

Here's the current thinking on the subject of mixing mineral and synthetic oils. This information is based on the answer to a technical question posed on the Shell Oil website:
There is no scientific data to support the idea that mixing mineral and synthetic oils will damage your engine. When switching from a mineral oil to a synthetic, or vice versa, you will potentially leave a small amount of residual oil in the engine. That's perfectly okay because synthetic oil and mineral-based motor oil are, for the most part, compatible with each other. (The exception is pure synthetics. Polyglycols don't mix with normal mineral oils.)
There is also no problem with switching back and forth between synthetic and mineral based oils. In fact, people who are "in the know" and who operate engines in areas where temperature fluctuations can be especially extreme, switch from mineral oil to synthetic oil for the colder months. They then switch back to mineral oil during the warmer months.
There was a time, years ago, when switching between synthetic oils and mineral oils was not recommended if you had used one product or the other for a long period of time. People experienced problems with seals leaking and high oil consumption but changes in additive chemistry and seal material have taken care of those issues. And that's an important caveat. New seal technology is great, but if you're still driving around in a car from the 80's with its original seals, then this argument becomes a bit of a moot point - your seals are still going to be subject to the old leakage problems no matter what newfangled additives the oil companies are putting in their products.

I agree, if you do more of city driving, then you may need to change sooner. Its stated like that in thw manual.

Our office cars were last service with Mobil xhp 20w50 exactly a year ago. The suv has done up to 20,000km now and the greedy men would not drop a kobo for some reason i wont say. Those engines are still moving fine. Anyways, i dont feel that extended usage beyond recommended quality grade of oil will have an immediate negetive effect. It will have to be some thing more critical like wrong engine oil grade to no engine oil at all switch gives you a negative result almost immediately. In my case, I have been topping with new oil and so may not be that bad.

Dont fret my guy. Infact you scared me into changing now when there is no money around.

There is something I noticed after a while when I changed to milemaster 5w-20. I began to hear this tapping noise from the engine area. I have also noticed the same noise from a friend's 2000 avalon after I adviced him to change to 5w-30.

From all the posts I think you are safer with mobil.

2 weeks ago I started running Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5W30 paired with Mobil 1 extended performance filter. The sound of my 2008 honda accord has changed, the car runs much smoother and quieter. I have just done about 300 miles in 2 weeks with no short or anything. I plan to go one year or 8,000 miles, which ever comes first.

Bros go for Mobil 1 5W30 but I'd advice you pair it with a high performance filter
