Yes,,you can enlighten us more on its significant sir, especially the tropical bosiet without the use of ebs.

Okay, BOSIET basically stands for Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Escape Training.
Its extremely significant in the O&G industry especially in Offshore sector. Again it is accepted worldwide and not limited in anyway at all. EBS is a part of the training depending on the scheduled tasks. Normally companies send their staffs for the training but some other companies prefer hiring personnel who already have it handy and this leaves applicants with no option than going for the training individually. In this case, lots of people go for the HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) as it is more affordable compared to the BOSIET.

You don't need any of these drilling courses being bandied around. You've got a degree in mechanical engineering, I think that's enough to get you a job. Most of the drilling courses being advertised are actually roughneck/deckhand courses. I almost went for it after uni. I've had people travel to Maritime Drilling School in Canada for this same course and it got them zilch. You should apply to get that first job then you can go for any of the IADC accredited courses. Google is your friend, you can start by doing a lil research. Goodluck in your search, bro.

I keep advocating same..

Concentrate more on passing entry level exams and get a first job then build experience.

A friend of mine had/has 'only' two years experience and just landed an international job. Today is Monday, he resigned last week thursday from his present job.

What advice will you give inmy onw case?

I’m an HND graduate of mechanical engineering and I wish to take up drilling as a career. I am no more a fresh graduate as I graduated in 2009 and I’ve been running my private business since then after all attempt to secure paid employment failed. Also, securing a trainee drilling engineer position is a bit difficult now because of my age; most trainee positions require younger applicants. After extensive research, I realized it’s a bit easier to break into the industry with some trainings/certifications.

I need necessary advice and guidance as to how to go about it, the necessary training/certification to enroll in and where these trainings are administered here in Nigeria.

I’ve researched two training institutions;

PTI MUD School: http://www.ptimudschool.com/ and

IDPE ASSISTANT DRILLER TRAINING PROGRAMME: http://www.idpe.org/public-learning/12-assistant-driller-training-programme.html

I’ll need close to #600,000 to enroll for either of these courses so I want to be sure it’s a step in the right direction before I will cough out such amount from my business.

Is it really worth it? Will any of these certificates really boost my chances of getting a job in any drilling coy in the shortest possible time?

Can you experts help me with any tips or advice which will help me get my career on track again?

From the little I know, drilling/OnG isn't the only sector where a mech. engineering graduate can work. It isn't a crime working in OnG also.

As for the Mud school, I have read on this same NL about people who did the training and are still unemployed. For the AD training, experience counts the most - starting from a roustabout position and climbing all the way up. Yet to see an employer that will employ straightup an entry level Assistant driller, the position requires experience.

Keep being on the look out for entry level positions even outside of the OnG industry, some experiences in other sectors are applicable e.g welding and mechanic positions. These trainings to me make more sense (personal opinion).

I'm very grateful bro, really appreciate your advice. The major problem i have is failure to secure an entry level position immediately after NYSC, i ventured into personal business (IT related) and its 4 years after NYSC now without any engineering experience. Not that i'm not doing well with my biz but i'm still passionate about working with my mech. engr certificate. Most of the entry level positions that are advertised these days screen me out agewise. My biz has reached a stage i can hand it over to someone to manage for me but i'm really finding it hard to secure an engineering job.

Still, i appreciate your contribution...really finding it hard to secure an opportunity in manufacturing industries(not necessarily O & G) without any related experience. outside drilling course, i also came accross a school in India(Technocrat Automation).
They train on industrial/process automation : http://www.technocratautomation.net/

The main reason i'm considering professional training is due to the fact that i lack the needed experience and i think the training will give me an edge. The question is, is it really worth it?

I will welcome other people's advice.

^ Industrial/process automation is a better way in
Rigger training, crane operator and the likes can get you a roustabout job (entry level) and when you are in, you decide on how you want to move within the industry.
Diesel engine/heavy machinery maintenance/repairs training can get you a rig mechanic job.

Mud logging is another "easy" way in because numerous indigenous companies are involved in this area. You can then find your way into other servicing companies.
Cementing companies are constantly recruiting too for operator positions. These roles has very little to do with age.

Na multi-nationals carry the age thing for head (at entry-level stage).

^JC Intl. Ltd. in p/h does the rigger training. Check online for more info.
I said mudlogging companies have much openings because more local companies are into it and don't care much about age from what I have seen.

My two cent

Its much advisable you acquire more skills than certification (i.e wielding) with your mechanical degree your far better off. Most oil servicing coys employs based on skills, that's why even an ssce holder with proper skills gets jobs .

There lots of schools in india,on professional wielding (agro, arc, submerge ,etc) .With that you just need little or no help securing a job.

Point: Just acquire a skill, and be good at it,then your good to go.

Just visited that site now, there are a lot of courses. Can you please recommend the courses you think I should enroll for, mostly those that are practical oriented.

I am considering:

Crane Operations - Mobile, Offshore, Overhead, Tower
and

IADC HSE Rig Pass

What do you think? Also, the training fee is not specified on their website. (Sent them an e-mail already)

Okay, let me be very plain to you here...No certification from PTI nor Nebosh will get you a job offshores, but they will only assist as an advantage for your profile if pre-selected at all. Normally these things should do, but sadly we do not run anything ideal anymore in this part of the world. You might be lucky to get a lab job offshores anyway if you are able to get yourself some contracting companies in that regard.
And then, people need to re-consider the passion of being offshores...it is NOT as we think anymore as times have changed and all the goodies of the time gone with it. Lots of people offshores presently even desire to return onshore, but then it is a good place to learn technically especially when working on one of the latest platforms.
So to conclude, you can get those certifications anyway, but they will not get you a job. Hope you mind my plenty story *smiles*

Going to Qatar might be helpful for you....but you should rule out Angola as their labour law is so much sensible and only helpful to their citizens (I hope you understand that) Then you also need to be sure of the exact job you want to get, as you said you just did CCNA I would presume you will want to go into I.T and that is a department that do not recruit often. Maybe you should do more research and do NOT quit your business yet.
