Just three weeks into the course, I have covered Fingerprinting/Reconnaisance- which is the process of gathering information about your target using various techniques. You learn what are the necessary information required to carry out a successful hack, ways of identifying those vulnerabilities; ip addresses, usernames & passwords, Web Servers, DNSs, software versions e.t.c.
We have also learnt things to void like flash drives that you cannot verify the sources as well as started using some tools.

Soon we would get to the good stuff: SCANNING, where you probe for open ports, ip addresses, passwords e.t.c.

Anyways, I am just three weeks into the course, so I still have a lot to learn

It sounds like a lot of fun. I may look into CEH.

Boss , where r u studying this? In Nigeria? Hit me up with info, m in telecoms but rili looking at security for a change....
Currently enrolled in New Horizons, they are the only ones certified by EC-Council here in Nigeria for training and examination (as far as I am aware of)
I wld rate their training 65% as they provide you with tools and learning manuals bt you may not have the chance of trying out exploits on demo networks...which I believe is provided in India and other more advanced countries.

We jst make do with their LAN and hack each others systems loool...

That was how one dude had a lot of his personal folders on his system public, we gained access into his system...we saw p•o•r•n et al

In order to become a CISSP, you must have had a CCNA, CCNP, or MCSE for at least 4 years. You must have also been in the networking industry for about 4 - 5 years. Those are the requirements before you can join a programme for CISSPs.

I beg to differ on this. Cisco isn't always the right path to getting CISSP. Though it is an added knowledge due to internetworking security, but CISSP is a top class (Boss)of its own in Information Security. That's my field. For any question, let me know. Thanks.

Big, fat and orobo lie! You can start studying and write cissp anytime you feel comfortable just that you will not get the full designation until you have 5 years of checkable security experience. Meanwhile, you'll be known as an Associate of Cissp. CCNA just makes it easy to understand the concepts of the domain areas.

As at last year September:
CCNA- 55K
Each module in CCNP- 45K (CCNP security has abt 4 modules)
C|EH exam is presently 500USD which is about 85K in Naira...although EC-Council requires you train with an approved institute that may charge you extra fees for training.

I hope this was of help to you

thanks...what about others??
I mean ccsa, redhart certified engineer and security +
Is it a must one do the four modules in ccnp because I'm only interested in network security not voice or data....
So if I don't train with ec council ...it'll not be recognised globally?!
Which centre is the best practically in lagos but don't charge much!!!!!!

You need to do 4 exams to become CCNP Security certified each of which cost 45K
CCNP Data or Voice require their own different number of exams to get the certification
EC-Council would most likely not allow you purchase an exam voucher or even register on their site if you don't select a valid center where you trained. Registeration on their site is necessary for you to get Continued Education Credits to retain your certififcation.

I have no idea about comptia S+ or CCSA or Red Hat
