Old Niraland Vs. New Nairaland by Saifullah01: 11:50pm On Nov 04, 2014 |
In the old nairaland (pre 2010) you tend to get matured responses to threads for instance a thread post like: please help last night my boyfriend picked my phone and saw a text i intended to send to one of my old friends and i ended up sending it to a guy my man has been suspecting me with , please what do i do i am heartbroken and so is he but i dont know what else to do i have explained and apologised but it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere The above was a 2006 and the responses were like; Keep on apologizing and pray that he reasons with you. Give him some time to chill out and he will come around. Have ever cheated on him if the answer to that is yes, then it might take longer for him to come around. Or Take time and explain to him. I hope he understands Fast forward to post 2010, 2013/2014 to be precise and you start getting comments like; you r a maggot picshure of the text or idonbeliveit could you expatiate: sorry I schooled in France OP how does this affect the price of G.arri What happened here... 5 Likes |

OP, that's what makes it more interesting If everybody start acting mature and everybody start creating meaningful threads, it will be more boring than you can't imagine Most of the dudes here are clown, and they even make it more interesting and enjoyable 8 Likes |

SirHouloo: There was nothing like this then, infact if you rarely get insulted no matter how provocative the argument is. But these days you even get threads starting with the OP pleading 'no insults please' as that's the norm today 1 Like |

I was going to do a thread like this today, as I went through a lot of old threads yesterday and nostalgia gripped me... Quality of interaction here has gone down so much. I prefer the old nairaland. If nairaland then was the way it is today, I wud have remained a guest. The insults and other practices now are so repulsive...as are the ethnic and partisan bigotry. Little or no brilliant discussions going on... Romance section is now hard to tell from jokes section... Politics is now APC/PDP section alone....except the enduring and generally mature Enugu thread and a few others A lot has changed, which is normal. Afterall nairaland was originally intended for Nigerians in Diaspora. Traffic-wise, it's good news. But quality wise, not so good. Many prominent old members are either relatively quiet these days or no more active....a generational shift. 7 Likes |

Compare the number and demography of registered users then with those of now. Nowadays, even teenagers aged 14 have access to internet-enabled devices hence, a reflection of their mentalities. |
