Sometime Vs. Some Time Vs. Sometimes by TRWConsult(m): 8:30am On Nov 05, 2014 |
Sometime, some time, and sometimes are the words that are frequently used in everyday lives, but because of the similarities in their spellings, even native speakers get confused with them SOMETIMES. Sometime An indefinite time in the future or an unspecified point in the past Example: We should hang out sometime. It happened sometime before noon yesterday. Some time A period of time. It is like saying ‘some people’, ‘some books’, etc. – ‘some’ is used to describe how much of the ‘time’. Example: Can you give me a call when you have some time? I have some time to help you before I go work. Sometimes on certain occasions or in certain cases but not always now and then; from time to time; occasionally Example: Sometimes he acts like a child. Jack usually plays baseball after work. But he plays soccer sometimes. Hannah Yoon |

I thought "sometime" cannot stand alone in a sentence without "ago". 1 Like |

Let me add little clarity to the Op explanation. Sometime can't stand alone without ago i.e they go together. Sometime goes with ago. E.g Sometime ago Nigeria currency used to be as high as the British pounds. In the other hand, sometimes does stand alone. It simply means not all the time, not often ,in some cases etc. E.g sometimes I do shed tears. While some time means a particular time. An exact time and so on and so forth 1 Like |

People that are asserting that 'Sometime can't stand alone without ago,' are very wrong, in view of the fact that, sometime can not only be used as an adverb but an adjective, i.e mr abu was sometime a jamb candidate. as an adverb, i.e you need to see me sometime before december. Are all correct examples of 'sometime' without 'ago.' the original poster was right with its application and expostulation of sometime. I hereby adjure anybody with such falsehood of grammar should jettison it for good. 1 Like |

Thewizzkid1 and Mcslize You're getting it twisted here. It's not "sometime ago", but "Some time ago". SOMETIME can only be used for future occurrence; E.g. I'll visit you sometime. SOME TIME(ago) on the other hand is used to indicate things that have occurred. E.g, i ate breakfast some time ago. 1 Like |
