The Many Lies Of Buhari And APC Supporters by Nobody: 11:38pm On Nov 05, 2014 |
I have watched with great sadness how Gen. Buhari supporters propagate outright lies (not propaganda) to deceive the Nigerian masses. For the sake of heaven, if you have to campaign, do so based on fact not lies. I have always said and keep saying that GMB had nothing good to offer as head of state neither will he have anything to offer as democratic elected president (Wonder his sudden love for democracy when he used Military coup to dethrone a democratically elected government). This piece is to put the record straight on many lies of Barcanista, the Nairaland APC and GMB spokesperson. Here is the link https://www.nairaland.com/1882714/buhari-1983-1985-vs-jonathan-2010-present I will only take two (Economy and petroleum infrastructure) for now Economy 1) Paid of $50m loan within few days of assumption and cleared the country's debtThere can never be any more lie than this and it’s shameful that Nigerian youths have swallowed this greatest lie of this century hook, line and sinker. Before I present my facts, the first question we must ask is this, was the Nigeria total loan and debt during the Shagari regime a mare $50 million? The answer is no, the Nigeria debt profile by the time Shagari left office was $14 billion according to CBN aanual report 1988 as reported here http://www.ccsenet.org/journal/index.php/jpl/article/viewFile/670/647 By the time Buhari left office in 1985, the debt has risen to $19 billion as reported by the Nigeria debt management office http://www.dmo.gov.ng/ardrnigeriaexternalanddomesticdebt.php Here is what the DMO had to say “By 1985 the debt profile had deteriorated seriously due to persistent inability of the country to meet its external debt service obligations. This resulted in mounting arrears and unmanageable growth of the debt stock relative to available resources. The external debt stock, which was about US$8.855 billion in 1980, grew to nearly US$19 billion by 1985” The question we must ask therefore, which loan did GMB paid for that made Nigeria debt free? If Nigeria wasn't debt free under Buhari, why the lie? 2) Reduced Inflation from 23% to 3.21% within 20months.While this is true, it must be said that in the year 1984 when he had a full 1 year, inflation went from 22.2% to 40.9% 3) Nigeria's GDP by Purchasing Power Parity was $941.2, it Grew by 8.56 %Lets take some perspective from here, Nigeria’s GDP per capita in 1980 was $849.87, by 1983 it was $428.13 however, by the time GMB left office, it was $330.98. But since we are doing Nigeria's GDP by Purchasing Power Parity, by 1980 it was 785.60, by 1985 it was 764.36 (1983 = 719.77, 1984 = 693.36 and 1985 = 764.36) 4) Refused to devalue the NairaI don’t know how this is being hyped up as his achievement, however, the refusal to devalue the Naira was started by Shagari Government. If this is achievement, the Government of GEJ also halted the devaluation of Naira 187 Likes 26 Shares |

@ OP: I would have ignored you but since it is a direct response, I decided to respond to you. 1. You didn't even state that Nigeria wasn't having debt as at when GMB took over. Only claiming that Shagari left reserve. Let me educate you on fiscal policy of government. - It is VERY possible for a Government to have external reserve and still be indebted. Jonathan's Government is HIGHLY Indebted yet, it still have external reserve. 2. As regards 2 www.nairaland.com/attachments/1839931_gdp_jpeg143ba2047addddc201b155ed46ab5463 http://www.indexmundi.com/nigeria/gdp_per_capita_(ppp).html 3. As Regards 3 and 4 I don't see your argument Thank you 157 Likes 11 Shares |

5) Number 5 and 6 will be discussed when it comes to the corruption in GMB regime. Petroleum infrastructure As NNPC Chairman, He was the man that Initiated and signed the construction contract of the existing Warri and Kaduna refineries. Two of the ONLY 3 Refineries In Nigeria. As at that time, Nigeria had just 1 Refinery-Portharcourt Refinery, established in 1965. Thankfully, they have changed the lie from GMB building two refineries as head of state in 20 months to signing the contract as NNPC chairman. However, keep a close eye to the lie (bolded) of barcanista and other Buhari supporters “initiated”. It is on record that GMB initiated nothing, he only signed contract as NNPC chairman as the decision to build the 2 refineries was initiated in 1974 when Buhari was nowhere in the government. Here is extracts from NNPC website: “REFINERY PROJECT DECISION The decision to construct the third Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) refinery in Kaduna was taken in 1974 along with that of the second NNPC refinery located at Warri. However, it was decided that work would commence on the construction of the third refinery whenever the projection of the consumption of petroleum products justifies it. By early 1975, in view of the fuel shortages experienced then, the Federal Government decided that work on the third refinery should be advanced. It was envisaged that the refinery was to be a simple hydro skimming type refinery in order to meet up with the fuel demand then” http://www.nnpcgroup.com/nnpcbusiness/subsidiaries/krpc.aspx Conclusion Buhari neither cleared Nigeria’s debt nor initiated any refinery in Nigeria. Part 2 will be: what happened between Buhari, IMF, Paris club and Saudi Arabia loan plus the selective fight against corruption by Buhari.. coming soon 174 Likes 18 Shares |

I don't know where the supporters of Buhari pull out their own ''facts'' that they tout around from. I've asked around and a lot of Elderly people say things were very difficult and hash during Buhari's regime. I believe Nigerians deserve better than GEJ and much more than Buhari. 166 Likes 5 Shares |

barcanista: You got it all wrong.. the figure i quoted wasn't reserve.. it was total debt at the end of Shagari Administration which you claimed that Buhari cleared with few days. Nothing in my write up made mention of reserve so I don't know where you go it from. I repeat, read properly, nobody ever made mention of reserve. The two key question for you are 1. Did Buhari, as you said, cleared Nigeria debt within few day of coming to power? do you you still stand by that after reading the link to the debt management office? 2. Do you still stand by your "fact" that Buhari initiated the construction of Warri and Kaduna refineries after reading the extract fron NNPC website? You are an intelligent guy and I expect a good reference from you (Regarding no 3 and 4, I only highlighted them to show that Buhari wasn't the Messiah who saved the economy from total collapse.. other than that, I had no further argument) 154 Likes 7 Shares |

Thankfully, we agree on the GDP Turn Around and others. 1. Did Buhari, as you said, cleared Nigeria debt within few day of coming to power? do you you still stand by that after reading the link to the debt management office? Here is a Video clip from ITN News Network, After Buhari Paid Nigeria's $50 million external debt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15xapP50Sf0?version=3 http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//ITN/1984/01/03/AS030184006/?s=nigeria&st=2&pn=96&sortBy=date 3rd January, 1984 However, from the DMO record, it showed that there were other debts profile. (Honestly, I usually search foreign sources than our government source, because of their inconsistencies) 2. Do you still stand by your "fact" that Buhari initiated the construction of Warri and Kaduna refineries after reading the extract fron NNPC website? Buhari Did!!! https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/IgboWorldForum/conversations/topics/122024 http://www.nnpcgroup.com/nnpcbusiness/subsidiaries/wrpc.aspx (Regarding no 3 and 4, I only highlighted them to show that Buhari wasn't the Messiah who saved the economy from total collapse.. other than that, I had no further argument)I am happy that we have no issues apart from one or two areas regarding the debt relief 126 Likes 4 Shares |

barcanista: I wouldn't want us to start arguing back and forth. Now when you play the video you posted, please skip to 2:44 - 2:56 I quote " The main worry for western financiers now is Nigeria's $15 billion worth of external debt, so today's prompt payment of $50 million dollars in rescheduled interest has pleased the city and helped the new regime economic prospect" How is payment of rescheduled interest equivalent to payment and clearing of Nigeria's external debt and making us debt free country? The video agreed with my statement that Buhari did not make Nigeria a debt free country.. as a mater of fact, he left more debt than he met. (I will explain the reason for the payment of interest on external debt by Buhari administration later) I wonder what is the most reliable source, you or Debt Management Office and CBN annual report. As per the refineries, You failed to provide us evidence that the two refineries were initiated by GMB. I don't take yahoo group as a valid reference, from the NNPC website you posted, the only date there is 1978 when the refinery was commissioned! I will repeat again The decision to construct the third Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) refinery in Kaduna was taken in 1974 along with that of the second NNPC refinery located at Warri Buhari was never in the picture when the decision to build those two refineries was taken. It is like saying, because the the Kaduna refinery was commissioned in 1980, it was initiated by Shagari. 171 Likes 6 Shares |

TInubu and GMB might not like GEJ but deep down they can't deny the fact that GEJ is still going to remain Nigeria's number one citizen for the next 4 years and 7 months. It's the reality they can't contort and they (and we all)should face the fact of it. 162 Likes 11 Shares |

as a mater of fact, he left more debt than he met. (I will explain the reason for the payment of interest on external debt by Buhari administration later)You explained nothing only giving bogus statement. Anyway, I I am doing a research on the actual debt acquired(If any) or otherwise by GMB's regime as at 1984 December and August 1985 I wonder what is the most reliable source, you or Debt Management Office and CBN annual report.Unfortunately, government agencies have the reputation of cooking figures to suit the person in Power. Iwaela comes to mind. Hence, I check and cross-check with reputable foreign sources, especially on issues like this. Anyway, the $50 million dollar external debt Paid by GMB's Administration was the ONLY one I came across after so many search on materials that was available as at that time. If I had got a hint of the inherited billions, I would have included it. Like I said, I am doing a research on the actual debt acquired(If any) or otherwise by GMB's regime as at 1984 December and August 1985 As per the refineries, You failed to provide us evidence that the two refineries were initiated by GMB. I don't take yahoo group as a valid reference, from the NNPC website you posted, the only date there is 1978 when the refinery was commissioned! I will repeat again We are again going back and forth. Unfortunately, you didn't open that Yahoo link, if you did, you would have seen input of El Rufai(Before he became a Progressive) and Joe Odumakin, President of Campaign for democracy. Who Signed THE Contract For The Refinery? General Muhammadu Buhari did The lubricating oil complex of Kaduna Refinery is the first of its kind in West Africa and one of the largest in Africa. The consulting firm, KING WILKINSON of Hague, Holland, in conjunction with NNPC engineers, developed the plan for the refinery. The contract for construction was awarded to CHIYODA CHEMICAL ENGINEERING & CONSTR/UCTION COMPANY OF YOKOHAMA, Japan in 1977.http://www.nnpcgroup.com/nnpcbusiness/subsidiaries/krpc.aspx Did you read the link I provided to you? Ofcourse, you did but won't admit. PS: Whenever, I am debating/arguing I am not doing it to win or lose but to present logical and verifiable argument and also to learn from the other party. 69 Likes |

barcanista: I think I will have to explain again, This is not my words but the of DMO By 1985 the debt profile had deteriorated seriously due to persistent inability of the country to meet its external debt service obligations. This resulted in mounting arrears and unmanageable growth of the debt stock relative to available resources. The external debt stock, which was about US$8.855 billion in 1980, grew to nearly US$19 billion by 1985. ...And by the period Shagari left office in 1983, Nigeria was indebted to $14,130.7 million (CBN Annual Report, 1988). Also, under Buhari government; in spite of the fact that the Buhari administration serviced her foreign debts more than other regimes, the IMF, acting through the US blocked the loan application of $1.6 billion which the government of made to Saudi Arabia in February 1984. This yet compelled Buhari’s government to start negotiations with IMF in late February 1984. But after series of discussions, the government publicly criticized the IMF around mid-1985 suggesting a deadlock over possibility of assessing IMF loan (Banguna, 1987). And by the period Buhari left office, Nigeria owed $18,034.1milllion (CBN, op cit). This from http://www.ccsenet.org/journal/index.php/jpl/article/viewFile/670/647 citing CBN annual report. At first, I didn't read the yahoo group link, I just had a look now and it's still the same lies. I will ask you an honest, Do you in your heart think that Warri refinery was initiated, planned and built within one year (1977 to 1978)? I think if you had read my link to NNPC http://www.nnpcgroup.com/nnpcbusiness/subsidiaries/krpc.aspx you will know that while work started at Warri refinery, that of Kaduna was delayed pending when consumption of petroleum products justifies it. We must first distinguish between initiating a project and commissioning a project. 104 Likes 5 Shares |

Lets examine another lies from Buhari supporters on economy, this time by Ola Idowu http://saharareporters.com/2014/10/23/if-buhari-easy-defeat-why-fear-ola%E2%80%99-idowu Quoting 6 paragraphs before the end of his If Buhari was easy to defeat, why the fear? essay By the time Buhari was overthrown he had paid off over $4 billion of our foreign debts in two years from the huge $15 billion Shagari had being ill-advised to borrow, and brought inflation down from runaway 40% to less than 5.5%. Also by the time Buhari’s regime was usurped by IBB we were running a budget surplus all in less than two years, the first and only time that has happened since after the oil boom of the 70s in Nigeria. 1. If Buhari paid off $4 billion of or foreign debt, how come the debt was higher than it was when he left office? 2. Shagari didn't borrow $15 billion, it was total debt before he left office, meaning, his borrowing plus the borrowing of previous government 3. It is on record that Shagari government refused to follow the IMF guidelines, including devaluation of Naira, the same thing Buhari supporter is using to hype him up 4. The inflation of 40% happened in 1984, that is during Buhari administration 5. Another big lie of the century, Nigeria never, and I repeat, Never operated budget surplus under Buhari!! The only times Nigeria had budget surplus were in 1971, 1972, 1995 and 1996. How these people can look people in their face and tell blatant lies just to sell their candidate is alarming. Nigeria's deficit under Buhari stood at N3.3 billion in 1983, N2.6 billion in 1983 and N3 billion in 1985 http://www.ejbss.com/Data/Sites/1/vol2no12march2014/ejbss-1358-14-empiricalinvestigationbetweenbudgetdeficit.pdf page 134 http://www.academia.edu/222415/NIGERIAN_BUDGETING_PROCESS_AND_THE_MAGNITUDE_OF_BUDGET_VARIANCES page 13 93 Likes 6 Shares |

barcanista: It is so shameful that we have to started arguing non-issues, instead of you to accept your mistake and move on, you are still making unnecessary arguments. I have given you a record from DMO and from CBN.. From your own Video, they confirmed with me that Shagari's debt was $15 billion... now answer this, did Buhari paid the $15 billion and make Nigeria debt free country?? I do not know any other authentic source for Nigeria's debt profile except DMO. I will keep repeating until it get's to your head. By 1985 the debt profile had deteriorated seriously due to persistent inability of the country to meet its external debt service obligations. This resulted in mounting arrears and unmanageable growth of the debt stock relative to available resources. The external debt stock, which was about US$8.855 billion in 1980, grew to nearly US$19 billion by 1985. Here are my facts which you are unable to disprove 1. Nigeria's debt profile at the end of Shagari's regime was $14.13 billion (just under $15 billion quoted in your own video) 2. Nigeria's total debt profile at the end of Buhari's regime was $18.03 billion (just under the nearly $19 billion quoted by DMO) What is your confusion now? 89 Likes 8 Shares |

barcanista: Like I said before, I know and I believe you are an intelligent person... please in the link you presented, can you highlight for us anywhere it was recorded that Buhari had a budget surplus? as matter of fact, Buhari took over in December 1983 and the report by Black enterprise was in April 1984.. Please tell me how they can report about budget surplus or deficit within this time. From your link, the only place I can see budget surplus read thus " Buhari asserts that the economy didn’t start it’s downhill slide until Shagari took control. When the former educator assume office in 1979 after 13 years of military rule, Nigeria had a budget surplus od $1.8 billion ..." Please, aside this, kindly point to us anywhere else you see budget surplus in the report Now to my own link, it is a pity, you chose to go down this way, but you must not twist my words. The report had two tables, I repeat, table on page 13, as i reported, was talking about Nigeria's budget surplus / deficit under the heading: Table II: Federal Government surplus / deficit analysis. Revenue in 1983 = N6.272 billion while expenditure was N9.927 billion that means a deficit of N3.364 billion. Revenue in 1984 = N 7.267 billion while expenditure was 9.927 billion.. deficit stood at 2.660 billion Revenue in 1985 = 10.001 billion and expenses was 13. 041 billion leaving us with deficit of 3.039 bilion NB: From your own link, they mentioned that the coup of 1983 was led by Buhari himself!! This thread will be for the economic and petroleum infrastructure lies told by Buhari supporters. Nobody is contending with you that Warri refinery was not commission in 1978, My argument still remain that Buhari had no input in decision to build the refinery. You still have not answered my question, Is it possible to initiate, plan and commission a 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day refinery in 1 year? I will take it back to the date the decision to build those two refineries were taken: The decision to construct the third Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) refinery in Kaduna was taken in 1974 along with that of the second NNPC refinery located at Warri. However, it was decided that work would commence on the construction of the third refinery whenever the projection of the consumption of petroleum products justifies it. What is your argument? remember my emphasis on your statement.. you wrote that Buhari initiated the construction of the two refineries 54 Likes 4 Shares |
