Roy Ofili Wins 1st Edition Of Storried Monthly Competition (SMC) by maclatunji: 1:09pm On Nov 04, 2014 |
We the Storried.com team are very excited to announce Roy Ofili as the winner of the inaugural edition of the Storried Monthly Competition (SMC) for the month of October which had the theme –‘Corporal Punishment: My experience’. This theme was chosen because we recognise that corporal punishment is a prevalent issue in our society; at home, school, with the police, paramilitary, military and even religious institutions. We wanted to read different experiences so as to learn more about how it affects our psyche as individuals and a society. As a new, focused and ambitious website dedicated to storytelling, we are excited by the response to the SMC and sifted through the entries we got using the following parameters. Relevance We considered if entries properly addressed our theme. The more an entry addressed the theme properly, the more marks it got from us. Grammar This is very important in any literary competition. We noticed that some writers did not take time to edit their entries, others had many grammatical and typographical errors. This led to some entries losing valuable marks from the judges. Style and Creativity Whilst it is true that we asked for true life stories for the October edition of the SMC, we also looked at the writing style, delivery and creativity of the writers in their entries. We appreciate creative non-fiction where you write true life stories in a captivating manner. Adherence to Rules The major conditions for the October edition of the SMC were: to address the theme, your story had to be based on a real life experience and not exceeding 600 words with your entry. A few writers exceeded the 600-word limit and lost valuable marks because of this. Congratulations to Roy who has received his prize which is the equivalent of $100 dollars in naira. Please read his winning entry here http://storried.com/corporal-punishment-my-memories-of-mr-koboko/ 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Statement By Roy Ofili on His Winning October Edition of SMC I was going through my text messages yesterday when I received an unexpected surprise. You know how it is when you open a text message and the first word you see is "Congratulations! You have just won..." I almost discarded the text as one of those 419 or spammers text message. What drew my attention however was that my name was mentioned in in full and instead of the person giving me a number to call he was asking how I would like to receive my prize money!" I decided to read further and was pleasantly surprised to see I had won the Short Story competition being organized by Storried.com! I called to confirm and in no time at all my account was being credited with the prize money, haha, see groove! I wish to thank the organizers of this short story competition, I enjoy writing and hope to write more for you guys in the future. As for those people wondering if it is real or not, guys and ladies, na dollars dem pay me o! Keep watching this page folks, I'm sure they have greater things in store for us readers. Once again thanks to storried.com for the opportunity to write and the exhilaration of winning. Cheers! http://www.facebook.com/storried 2 Likes 1 Share |
