I've not gotten any such message.

For the past 3years I've been using WhatsApp, na so dem dey talk say e go expire in 1yr, still, dem dey extend am.

Is it now that there are many free IM apps esp. BBM that they wanna start charging? I doubt it tho.

Anyway, $1/yr is not too much for such a useful app. Infact, there are so many useless apps out there that cost way more than that.

So, you prefer that some hackers hack whatsapp for you to enjoy it indefinitely rather than paying $1 for a year subscription which translates to 168 Naira for a year, 14 Naira a month, 3 Naira a week, 46 kobo a day. Is it more than what you spend on stuff you hardly ever use nor need? Is it up to how much u spend on airtime or beer? This is why we don't move forward as a people in this country. We are happy to pay for the epileptic services being rendered to us eg Telecoms, NEPA etc, but will rather look for a way out instead of paying for those services that we enjoy and have served us effectively.

Anyways, for others that wouldn't want to pay, why not seek out other better alternatives to whatsapp that are available like Telegram and Wiper?

Easy champ. Nigerians aren't afraid to pay. The payment method is the challenge. Many people don't trust online payment. Imagine a situation where your ATM is in your pocket, yet you're getting alert about a purchase on jumia.com. Go to the banks and see him many people still withdraw over the counter.

It is not difficult .. Just add Ur debit card details to Ur account on playstore, marketplace and AppStore .. Then when Ur are thru with that step u make payment and Ur bank account will be debited.. I having using my debit on AppStore for a year and I don't issue buying applications

Payment method is no longer a challenge on online stores abroad. I have been using my GTBank Naira Mastercard on Amazon and Ebay with no issues. Heck, I even once used it once on porn site just to prove something and win a bet/argument. Like someone pointed out, all you need to do is to add ur card to your google wallet/paypal/amazon and use those pre-processors when you want to purchase stuff online. Talking about getting alerts on ur card when used locally is a fault with either the bank, local pre-processor or both. Interswitch has improved a lot lately with their verve cards though, I don't use it. Just make it a habit of never being an early adopter of any new tech for financial transactions and avoid shady sites and you'll be good to go.

Relax dude. they will give you a grace/extension for another one year the day your current one expires. that is what they do. Come back and give a testimony later.

FUD. The fee had been in place way before the facebook acquisition. Just pay for the service or switch to the free alternatives, no need for this embarrassing panic attack.
