In a proper and sane environment, it would have been nice if you finished your polytechnic ND/HND in Elect/Elect Engr but hey, this is Nigeria where they look down on Polytechnic graduates.

I will go for IT firms, you can only get little IT knowledge from banks. The kind of IT knowledge you need right now can be obtained from these firms. You will not only get expert opinions, you'd also be able to get people to mentor you on how to navigate your career path in IT. It's not even a hard choice to make, so what are you waiting for; you should be sending your IT letters to them already.

NB: from the little I know about this field, you need certifications but the ones that are right for you; i don't know. So it is better you speak to the right IT people around you. I must commend you, you started early. You will definitely get there, trust me.

First and foremost , you would make a career mistake if you failed to develop a career path you are so passionate about ...

You may got engaged in what you wouldn't latter like !!

Sit urself down and ask yourself where you would like to be in the next 50years after ascertaining where you wanna be then develop your career path around where you wanna be then that would determine whether you wanna be a czar in IT firms or Bank or independent or other sectors !!!

There is nothing like failure in passion !!

Personally, I don't like restricting myself , I'm wherever I found Opportunities as far as it commensurate with my passion and standard !!

One of the few things to be a priority for u right now should be graduating with at least a minimum of 2-1 in school if u cant make a First Class. This wil increase ur chance of getting a job later in future. For now, score as many A's as possible to increase ur GP.

Ur IT should be in an IT firm, money should not be ur main priority for now, u need experience in ur field as much as possible. The idea of going to a bank is nt cool. Forget the financial benefits involved.

Start thinking of doing professional courses (Java, Oracle, Cisco) u can ask those in ur field of study.

Read, yes Read!!! Read as much as u can. Make it a habit. Novels, Journals, Educative Blogs/websites, Books, Biography/AutoBiography of people of ur interest etc. It opens the mind and give u the opportunity of seeing things in diff perspective and get ideas. We do lot of things that does not really worth it nowadays, I am very sure reading is not one of them.

Ask Questions from experienced people. Try and get in touch with a nairalander, his monicker is Jarus , he is someone I really respect his judgement, he operates a blog www.jarushub.com , I believe he can be of help.

Calm down, Everything is gonna be alright, if u panic too much, u wil lose focus and confidence in ursef and dat is not wat u need right now.

Like Squad1 said, getting good grade at the end of your degree should be the priority.

IT doesn't matter much. I know people that did IT in Chevron, Shell etc and still didn't get good jobs after graduation.

Take your IT letter to both IT firms and banks, whichever you get first, settle for it, but if you get both, give IT firm a preference (bank may be too stressful for you at this stage).

At 26 now, you really need to buid your IT skills very well. You will be graduating at 27/28, and most firms will tell you they're looking for Under-26. But the good thing is, most IT firms don't care about age, it is your skills. So just to remind you, start building a specialised IT skill now that will stand you out when you graduate. I know someone that had a third class in Botany or so, it was his IT skills that bailed him out. He got a job in a Financial institution with his IT knowledge, and rose to become a Mid-Level manager within short period of time. Google: moving into senior management cadre + jarushub

Once you get job (I mean after graduation) with a decent IT firm, when you want to move on within 3-4 years, nobody will care about your age again, even the institutions that attract importance to age at entry level.
