brother, God bless your efforts as regarding hammed. But I'll advice he goes to Uch. Uch is a quartinary hospital, quite better than Luth IMO. I have been there a couple of times as a pharmacist, tho I don't have a contact there who could be of help, but I believe he'll GEt better diagnosis and treatment at Uch. Remember, at Luth they said they could find nothing earlier. No one would readily submit to there inefficiency especially publicly. I pray he gets well. God bless nairalanders.

I see your point.

Serological tests is being done to rule out cancer and narrow it down to a non-malignant liver disease although it might be a false alarm, so he needs a referral to an Hepatologist. Hope LUTH or UCH or LASUTH has one cos he should be under the care of a Specialist since they suspected bleeding. He needs an ultrasound, but not at N53k they quoted, haba!

Does one need to go to hospital to check blood pressure in Nigeria? Or could he get someone to check both sides whilst he is at home waiting?

We'll definitely keep this thread updated. We've found people who live close to his area that can pay him visits. Hopefully, he'll be checked into the hospital ASAP. Too many recommendations already. I still don't know what his family has decided but I'm waiting to hear from him.

If the ratio is low, then cancer and pancreatitis
are potential causes.
Laboratory tests on the ascites fluid may include
evaluation for infection and the assessment of
electrolytes and other substances.

More than 20 people advised to avoid LUTH, but Dr Naijaking1 stated that it might not be safe for him to travel 3 hours and that it's best he has someone coordinate the transfer before setting off elsewhere. Olu4life too just mentioned as well that UCH would need a referral from LUTH.

And next time, don't rush to reveal ur AC Number, it's make some doubting Thomas (e.g, like me) thinks it's a scam in the 1st place thereby, creating setback 4U.

After reading a few pages on this thread, I saw this picture of you lying on the bed and I feel a sense of empathy and wish I'm not an unemployed graduate.

With tear in my eye, I manage to speak with a doctor friend in UCH and send the pix to him via bbm, he said the ailment is cancer related and that UCH has necessary facilities to handle it. I can link you up with him if you wish to go to UCH in Ibadan. He also promised to do everything within his capacity to ensure you get proper medical attention.


I will not promise financial assistance but I hope Allah will surprise me to surprise you.

I just spoke with a doctor in India. we couldnt talk for long because of network ish. I think its a very good hospital, by name :Global hospital Hyderabad, India. you can look it up in Google. its a hospital that handles most of this ascite and kidney related disease solely.

I've been following this thread since it came up on frontage yesterday.......
I pray to the Almighty to grant quick recovery to OP....
I'm a medical student of University of Ibadan/UCH, though I don't know much about this disease for now but I can shed some light to it......
From this ascites, I can see two probable cause 1) peritonitis. 2) portal hypertension
I will rule 1 above out because the cause is mild and easily treateable
The other, portal hypertension, has a lot of underlying cause ranging from hepatitis, hepatocarcinoma, pancreatitis, pancreatic tumor and any abdominal cancer etc

What I think should be the next line of action-.....
One or two Nairalander should accompany OP to LUTH today or tomorrow (whichever is feasible) with the intention/mindset that we have enough money to treat OP, hear out the CONSULTANT(not Registrar or a Medical offricer), consultant I reapeat, in charge of OP case.
If they still sound clueless, I beg ask for referral to UCH, Ibadan(if possibe, see if an ambulance with a medical doctor can accompany to Ibadan)
All in all, I think with enough money all things can be done and OP can get intensive care in LUTH, UCH or abroad
