MrNiceGuy4: Then God help you and the patients that end up with you. Decompensated CLD aka decompensated Cirrhosis of the liver and possibility a cancer which is often the long term outcome of cirrhosis If you ever sat in a medicine class you should know what that means and that the only help available at this time is a liver transplant

babyosisi: when I saw the lab result I emailed a doc in the states and they also indicated a liver transplant. unless LUTHs prognosis is defective but if it isnt then his solution is a liver transplant this was why I started shouting take him to india. He who has ears let him hear. ignorance is making them want to run to abeokuta just by hearsay. The causes for fluid retention in the abdomen and legs are pretty easy to narrow down and it always has a link to the liver. |

I am compelled to write this by the recent attitude/action of Hammed family members who are pressurising him to go to Abeokuta for medical treatment that is not available. Where are they when the money wasn't there? Listen @all, i think it is high time the message is pass across to his family members that the people who contributed all the money in his Acct have decided to take Hammed back to either Luth or Uch Ibadan; d decision is not theirs anymore, period. Lets be decisive about this cos we re talking about life here. This Abeokuta trip might turn out to be a waste of time, trust me. Why can't you go to Uch Ibadan at once instead of wasting your time and resources to go all d way to Abeokuta to obtain nothing but more regrets. Op, without your consent, your family members can't do anything but listen to your demands. The money that would be covering your overheads is in your personal Acct, not theirs. Listen bro, your family members have now developed phobia for insults abiii(LOL @ dat abiii)? However, i dont entertain or give room for doubt in my mind when it comes to taking an important decision such as this. Bro, pick your stuff tomorrow morning and make your way to any of these teaching hospitals Luth, Uch Ibadan( a cab all d way) or Reddigton(irregardless of the cost). I say big No to Abeokuta hospital where you might finally be refered back to teaching hospitals. If your mum insists, then i would be compelled to ask her to single-handedly finance your trip to Abeokuta and if things get better, others ll join her in d race. Finally, your case is now different from your first visit to Luth. Nigerians are involved in your case now and i am 100% sure that you would be well treated this time around. Some forumites have promised to ask their family members who works at Luth or Uch to keep eyes on you as soon as you get yourself admitted in one of these two hospitals. @ charata, keeping quiet over this repulsive decision of his family members of taking him to unknown hospital in Abeokuta would equally leave you with everlasting pains if anything goes wrong in Abeokuta ( God forbid though). keeping it real babes. You know better than his parents in terms of education and you(among forumites) are in d best position to take some decision on his behalf cos you are equally acting on behalf of all Forumites too. God bless u @charata and remain blessed. @Djbola, how lucky you are that i m not close to where you are cos by tomorrow morning, i ll be d first person you would have probably see, standing by your door to pick you up and d purpose for that desperate action is to ensure you get to Uch or Luth by tommorow morning, if you turn my offer down then, forumites ll be updated about it. 16 Likes 1 Share |

DJDOLA: OK, The man sees u and say he can treat u, u pay advance, treatment starts, 10 days later GOD forbid u r not improving. what next ?? by then u have spent maybe 200k on further test, medicine, admission fee etc. if u can travel, why dnt u go for the most recommended? ur system is being damaged daily with all the fluid and God knows wat that has caused that swelling. also, contact ifyalways if she can help u with reddington, i hear its the best hospital in lagos. |
Re: I Need Help by Nobody: 9:30pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
if LUTH did not arrive at that prognosis via this procedure below then it just might be wrong. " paracentesis is recommended to obtain samples of the fluid for analysis to assist in making the diagnosis. Removal of the fluid may assist with symptom control. Paracentesis is a sterile procedure whereby a needle is placed through the abdominal wall into the peritoneal cavity and fluid is removed. Gastroenterologists (specialists in the digestive system including the liver) use a formula measuring the amount of albumin (protein) in the blood compared to the amount found in the ascites fluid to help them classify the type of ascites and assist with the diagnosis. If the amount of protein is higher in the serum, it may be due to liver disease, heart failure, and Budd-Chiari syndrome. If the ratio is low, then cancer and pancreatitis are potential causes." OP was any attempt made to take a sample of thw fluid retained in your belly? However I wi assume their prognosis was right and based on that we need not be talking about treatments at dis time. what we should be talking about is a liver transplant. |
Re: I Need Help by Artistree: 9:38pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
ifyalways:I told him that too! The issue then was embarrassing cos of lack of funds. Now, there is little to go around with, sentiments should be dropped but he insisted that from the look of things, his mother will NEVER go back with him to LUTH. He actually gave me express permission to post this so the house can know the odds against him presently. The dude can't move so he's at the mercy of people to do the needful. |
Re: I Need Help by Nobody: 9:39pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE MEDICAL TERMS, LUTH GAVE A PROGNOSIS OF DECOMPENSATED CLD. IN FULL THIS MEANS DECOMPENSATED LIVER DISEASE OR CHRONIC IMPAIRED LIVER FUNCTION. NOW DO YOU GET THE PICTURE? |
Re: I Need Help by Nobody: 9:47pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
Decompensated liver disease means that the medications and treatments used to treat the cirrhosis is no longer working very well and the liver is near total failure. When symptoms can no longer be controlled with drugs, then that means it is decompensated. It is the very last stage of cirrhosis. Chronic means it is an ongoing problem that does not go away. I took my time to deliberately explain this so we all know what we are dealing with. this guy needs a liver transplant and must be flown out if we cannot run that process in Nigeria. 1 Like |

@all, i dont know if anybody who lives in Lagos is interested in the last paragragh of my last post. Sometimes, there is need for one as individual or group of people just like we are as forumites to take drastic action to deal with critical situation such as this. Lets see What the family members would do and even Hammed.........#teamwinnerschapellondon declaring restoration and spiritual healing to your life right now. Stand up and work Ijn. Re: I Need Help by Busybody2(f): 10:12pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
naijadeyhia: The Doctor (Endocrinologist) who saw him at LUTH a&e is "querying" CLD. The diagnosis is not firm and unconfirmed, hence reason they requested he undergoes further scans... If those tests and CT scan was all that was carried out so far, all this indicates is that the Doctor suspected a cancerous tumour/internal bleeding and tested for this...so the only clinical investigation so far only reveals Ascites. |

thinkdip: Good point you've made. The money might have "entered their eyes" especially all these yeye extended family, thats why they are recommending one yeye unheard of hospital so they'll have some change left. Hope his atm card is with him or a VERY trusted relative cos people are damn wicked!! |
Re: I Need Help by chival(f): 10:23pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
I am with babyosisi on this. I lost my dad to lung cancer some years ago at LASUTH and having seen things first hand there, I'll agree the OP's ailment requires specialist care OUTSIDE Nigeria. Our govt hospitals do their best but I really doubt if they can perform a liver biopsy or transplant if that is what is needed. However, as someone pointed out, processing a visa for him might take a few days and it certainly won't be advisable for the OP to sit and wait till that is done, so I think the best thing would be to get him to a tertiary hosp that can manage his symptoms for a few days(at least drain the retained fluid in his tummy to help him breathe easier) until he can be flown out to India for treatment. DJDOLA we are praying unceasingly for you knowing that God will never give up on you. You will overcome this in Jesus name. Regardless of how grim the picture looks, stay positive. It helps tremendously. Caracta, marcjane, CC, GBoliwe, babyosisi and all who have contributed in cash and kind, you guys are angels simply put. May God bless you all richly. 2 Likes |
Re: I Need Help by Kashif(m): 10:27pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
I have read a lot here, and have had to research the OP's diagnosis. If that diagnosis is correct, I am afraid Babyosisi is right - his only treatment is a liver transplant. The abdominal fluid retention is just a complication arising from the cirrhosis, which is the underlying factor. Any other 'treatment' would be waste of resources. Efforts should be geared towards getting his travel document. The Abeokuta doctor may only try to manage the ascites. Please, let's be objective. You can undertake a little research.... Shalom. 1 Like |

Re: Reddington, Lagoon, etc...he will have to pay on average N100,000k for consultation as an in-patient. This fee does not include any test oh...and if LUTH is charging N53k for routine Ultrasound, hmmm... These kinda hospitals are set up for those with private medical insurance... |
