Is Rakim The Greatest Rapper Of All Time? by Djicemob: 3:48pm On Nov 10, 2014 |
Discography: Paid in Full (as Eric B. & Rakim) (1987), Follow the Leader (as Eric B. & Rakim) (1988), Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em (as Eric B. & Rakim) (1990), Don’t Sweat the Technique (as Eric B. & Rakim) (1992), The 18th Letter (1997), The Master (1999), The Seventh Seal (2009) The closest thing hip hop has ever gotten to God is Rakim Allah – the most revolutionary lyricist hip hop has ever witnessed. On the strength of that famous opening line – “I came in the door, i said it before, I never let the mic magnatize me no more” – Rakim went on to transform simple rhyme patterns into an intricate art form. Not content to stick to the rigid structure previous rappers like LL, Kool Moe Dee and Melle Mel were using, Rakim approached lyricism with fresh imagination, delivering his rhymes like a jazz musician plays their instrument – effortless, smooth and without boundaries. And as groundbreaking Paid in Full was, Rakim upped the notch with Follow the Leader, expanding on his multisyllabic rhymes and displaying a variety of stunning verbal acrobatics. There have been so many articles and reviews written about Rakim and his rhyme skills, anything I say now would simply be superfluous. Bottom line: Rakim is the most influential and one of the greatest rappers of all time, period. 1 Like |

Gratefully, I'm the first to comment on this thread that has 100% right to hit the front page. Rakim Allah, as he's well known, is unarguably the god mc in the world of hip hop! This guy birthed the style most so-called top rated emcees are using today. His rhyme scheme is top notch! His flow is as easy as the air we breathe. Too bad he's so underrated, reason why the beat hounds flocking the mainstream may not know him. But I implore y'all to google and download Rakim's tracks and get the taste of what I call true lyricism. Thankfully, many a hip hop head have referenced him in their tracks as the grand master. Below is one of his tracks I love to listen to anyfuckingtime! [b] UPLIFT [1st verse] Levantore! Yeah, it's just ghetto, kid test the devil to hit the next level Wish they was a rebel with cerebral metal Inflex the bezzle with the peddle to the metal In a thug's paradise where love have a price So we love for life like thugs love the night They sell drugs for ice for the Benz with bug lights Some hug mics to the world, hung like parasites The likes lethal, the mics lead you A sneak preview, watch what we do and what the hood teach you I still see through the eye of a needle So I can watch people cause slug backwards is evil [2nd verse] Levantore! Yo, what's this? Yo bust this. Yo it's time to up lift They think all we do is bust clips and puff splifs And plush whips and clutch chips and touch chicks Flont rocks like Fort Knox and hog blocks Taunt cops with more props and we want not Panhandling with your mans and them Scrambling, gambling, plans to win While the cops clock em, thieves flock em Women watch em, traders wanna top em Ay yo what's the problem Before the narcs knock em opposite playas plot to rob em The ghetto got em, my man said it's rough at the bottom [3rd verse] Levantore! Ghetto alert, let's do whatever work to get rid of the curse We went from 1st to America's worst On this competitive turf, now let's inherit the earth There's more prize for one another, and call shots 12:00 til the next ball drop All year around plus they shuffle non stop You think it's rough at the bottom, it's even rougher on top My peeps gonna have to reach and turn for me And everybody's side of the street'll be celly Ain't nothing funny, burn plenty and burn money And earn money and watch the century turn 20 [4th verse] Levantore! We all should, from the woods to the big city and the small hood Everybody should be welcome to the ball if we all could, But we fall cause we brawl, yo it ain't all good We need to play right, stay tight with ya air alight Keep your game tight, no need to play trife Get cheese from the daylight to the late night And it's shouldn't take death to appreciate life Before a lot parish, we got to cherish if Allah let us Let's give prop and merits till the block flourish In this metropolis, stay on top of this You know what the prophet is, be prosperous [5th verse] Levantore! Now we networking Respect the next person, it'll be less hurting Or left lurkin, while we kept our dreads working Connect set for certain, total networking Last chance to advance and stash grands If you have plans to have fam and mad land Own shine, condone crime or hold 9s I know what the problem is, killing our own kind To my flame throwers, train sober, remain soldiers Stay sane so these pretty dames can hold us Terror terrain rollers and Range Rovers so the train goers Claim your fame, maintain, till your game's over [6th verse] Levantore! Ghetto alert, let's do whatever work to get rid of the curse We went from 1st to America's worst On this competitive turf, now let's inherit the earth There's more prize for one another, and call shots 12:00 til the next ball drop All year around plus they shuffle non stop You think it's rough at the bottom, it's even rougher on top My peeps gonna have to reach and turn for me And everybody's side of the street'll be celly Ain't nothing funny, burn plenty and burn money And earn money and watch the century turn 20 Levantore! Rakim defined Flow and Rhyming and gave Hip Hop a new meaning but their are doper More lyrical rappers out there who will floor that man. Canibus ft Rakim - I'll Bus Em, You Punish Em (chorus deleted) (Canibus) Yo, yo... Out on the battling tip my verbal lateral grip Keeps my tongue glued to the A-Dat when I'm trackin' 'em swift Let my spit lubricate the chap on my lips And make you rappers have fits 'cause I'm back in the mix Forget a pad and a pen, I write rhymes on an IBM Ebonics is dead, the binary language is in Canibus practices in a room wit a thousand candles lit Meditating on this rapping shit Because my freestyle reigns sovereign Wit a deeper conscious than the prophet Muhammad was born wit My brain cavity is enormous My left hemisphere alone harnesses all of the 7 sharveous While the right one harnesses darkness The type of dark that makes a house haunted The type of dark that people get lost in The type of dark you fear when you're dead in your coffin I hear you talkin' but I ignore it Cause you garbage and your rhymes borin' So keep standin' on the corner, the thrash-man will collect you in the mornin' Thug cats frontin' Wacker than Blinky Blink on the back of the wack-ass wagon babblin' about - nothin' Now that real hood rats could get it on, black Meet me at The Tunnel where pussy cats get robbed at Rubber faced rappers get stretched like elastic claymation characters with verbal vernaculars Slappin' ya like a white water raft or an Olympic kayak paddlin' across the - Niagara Fake MCs haul ass like they runnin' track Where ever Canibus or Rakim is at (Rakim) Be ready and at ya best The celebrity match of death Heart snatched through your chest, cardiac arrest Crack your neck while I break your arms, catch your breath Then I asked the ref, "how many cats is left?" One on one, who challenging? Come get did All I have is a pen and punish you kids Abdomen punctured and look what I did to his wig Wanna live then I stab 'em in the lung with his rib Every word I say detach a vertebrae from your spine Rematch wherever we meet at, any place anytime Get your snot-box smashed with a 9 Smacked with a rhyme, push your forehead to the back of your mind Try to explain what it's like seeing your brain Your insane, soon to be ID'ed as remains Then I reincarnate 'em and kill 'em again Again and again, again and again (Canibus): Yo, yo…. The battle started with a grapple He had real long hair so a grabbed a hand full And chopped 'em in the Adams-apple His partner in back of you tried to attack you So I'ma twist 'em up like a pret-zel then I'ma tag you (Rakim): I'm on some stone cold shiit Warn your whole click Cartilage get blown until the whole bone split Who wanna spit, bang quick, strangle 'em wit his lip He tried to flip but I left his body danglin' (Canibus): You left 'em danglin' I can't believe he wanna grapple again I swung 'em around like I was dancing wit 'em Put his arms in back of his head and snapped 'em again Then I grabbed his limbs and put in the figure-"6 subtracted from 10" (Rakim): Seven birds, make 'em swerve 'til their vision is blurred Turn cats that suped from superb to nerds Just say the word, I'll leave your DNA on the curb And stick my dick in your ear and f_ck what you heard |

Example of A Rapper's Lyrics Grinding Verse 1 - Lil Wayne: I'm grindin', I'm grindin', I'm grindin' I promise I Bleep her until I get tired, retire and then come out retirement My girl like it rough she said "find me a diamond" Her body be grindin', Lord we be on every kind of narcotic That make us believe, when we lyin', we honest, I love you Pick, Michael Jackson to Jordan to Tyson to Myers Too much dirty money when the colors Are washing the whites in the dryer my nigga It ain't rocket science just rockets I sleep in pussy not pajamas, grindin' I got this shit down to a science, I turn in my project, A minus Whew, I ain't crazy, I'm krazy and all of my niggas chaotic Dressed in all black like they gothic Music too loud to hear sirens, we pop, pop, pop up where you stay Knock, knock, knock, anyone home? Pop, pop, pop, pop then we outtie I need a bitch like Naomi to take off her clothes. example of an MC's lyrics. immortal Technique's 2nd verse on The 4Th Branch. Flow like the blood of Abraham through the Jews and the Arabs Broken apart like a woman's heart, abused in a marriage The brink of holy war, bottled up, like a miscarriage Embedded correspondents don't tell the source of the tension And they refuse to even mention, European intervention Or the massacres in Jenin, the innocent screams U.S. manufactured missles, and M-16's Weapon contracts and corrupted American dreams Media censorship, blocking out the video screens A continent of oil kingdoms, bought for a bargain Democracy is just a word, when the people are starvin' The average citizen, made to be, blind to the reason A desert full of genocide, where the bodies are freezin' And the world doesn't believe that you fightin' for freedom Cause you bleeped the Middle East, and gave birth to a demon It's open season with the CIA, bugging my crib Trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid Where nobody gives a Bleep whether you die or you live I'm tryin' to give the truth, and I know the price is my life But when I'm gone they'll sing a song about Immortal Technique Who beheaded the President, and the princes and sheiks You don't give a Bleep about us, I can see through your facade Like a fallen angel standing in the presence of God Bitch niggaz scared of the truth, when it looks at you hard. 1 Like |
