•As Tinubu summons gov aspirants to meeting
•Gov hopefuls vow to reject Ambode

FOLLOWING the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State over the alleged endorsement of a former Accountant-General of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, as its governorship candidate, the national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, has summoned all the 16 governorship aspirants in the party.

The meeting, Sunday Tribune checks revealed, will take place today at his Bourdillon residence.

An aspirant confirmed the summons to Sunday Tribune, but remained undecided over his attendance and participation.

The meeting is fixed for 8.00 p.m., according to findings.

Tension is already building ahead of the said meeting, considering that Ambode is generally seen as Tinubu’s anointed for the party’s ticket.

A party source disclosed that the main agenda would be the crisis over the governorship ticket, particularly the troubling report that chieftains of the party, who are aggrieved over the alleged endorsement of Ambode, have opened talks with opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Aspirants who are considering a boycott of the meeting claimed that Tinubu had lost the moral right to play the elder statesman’s role among the governorship hopefuls, due to his alleged partisanship and bias in Ambode’s favour.

As of last night, aspirants who have formed a coalition against Ambode’s alleged endorsement had not resolved on either of participation or boycott.

A frontline aspirant confirmed his planned participation, but stated that “anything can happen at the meeting. If the meeting was called to further Ambode’s project, maybe that is where the whole thing would scatter. If that is where the whole thing would blow into an open crisis, so be it; enough of imposition.”

Sunday Tribune, however, learnt that Tinubu may use the meeting to denounce his alleged support for Ambode and profess his support for all the aspirants.

“It is likely he will disown Ambode in the presence of everyone tomorrow (today). But that would give nobody any comfort,” a party source disclosed.

With the festering crisis over the governorship ticket, it was learnt that it is likely Tinubu would ask all the aspirants to sit and look at the possibility of picking one of them as consensus candidate.

An aspirant who is not against all aspirants making a common choice amongst them was confident Ambode would be a long-shot, if the process is tilted that way.

Whoever is thinking apc would still lead Lasgidi is sleeping on a bicycle.
PDP is capturing Lagos this time. A combination of Obanikoro and Agbaje would be the game changer.

But remember, it's GEJ TILL 2019.

A meeting called by the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with about 10 governorship aspirants in Lagos has just ended at his Bourdillon, Ikoyi residence where he openly distanced himself from the candidature of former Accountant General of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode who has been in the news as Tinubu’s anointed candidate.

The aspiration of Ambode who is from Ondo state has led to serious tension and gang up against Tinubu among the latter’s associates, other aspirants, party leaders and members.

But sensing an implosion that may cost the party the state governorship seat in next February elections, Tinubu as earlier reported by iReports-ng.com had summoned an emergency meeting for 8pm local time today. Some of the aspirants summoned to the meeting include: Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Femi Kadiri Hamzat, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Lanre Ope, Tokunbo Wahab, Tola Kasali, Akin Ambode, Supo Shashore and Leke Pitan.

Some of the aspirants who attended the meeting today told iReports-ng.com that they were a bit relieved hearing from Tinubu himself that he has nothing to do with Ambode’s aspiration and as such, everybody should go out and seek the party members support to emerge at the primary. He was quoted as warning that nobody should drop his name as his anointed any more saying that he has gotten to a point in his political life where he wants to serve and be seen as a father to all.

Findings reveal that with the open disclaimer, Tinubu will also try to distance himself from Ambode, a move that will finally nail the Ilaje, Ese Odo Ondo state born Accountant’s aspiration more so that Governor Babatunde Fashola will spend his last kobo to block the emergence of Ambode who was forced out of his government in 2012 over financial impropriety.

“The meeting was a strategic move by Asiwaju because he cannot afford to lose face within the party in Lagos”, one of Tinubu’s aides told iReports-ng.com on the phone. Three of the aspirants who attended the meeting however expressed cautious optimism over the assurance from the party leader. They maintained that they will still need to watch Tinubu for some days before they can take his words serious.

“We will count on his words today but we still need to monitor him close especially any clandestine move to route any moral or financial support to Ambode through Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu”, one of them added stressing that “some N20 million was passed through Oba Akiolu to Ambode a day before his declaration at the Onikan stadium some three weeks ago. We are monitoring such secret support.”

The ruling party at the centre, the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan has been working hard to see an implosion within the Lagos APC so as to take advantage of such for the benefit of the PDP.

Even though the article represents some degree of accuracy in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's declaration of free and fair primaries within the party, I would like to address some inaccuracies contained therin before it becomes a viral issue:
- Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode was not "forced out of his government in 2012 over financial impropriety"; he left on his own terms and with a conviction to return to governance better equipped
- The so-called "clandestine move to route any moral or financial support to Ambode through Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu" is inaccurate and vehemently denied
- At no point in time has Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode claimed that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had anointed him as the candidate of APC in Lagos State. This was fabricated by the media and should not be the case going-forward.

Please be careful and avoid spreading rumours.

Ok, we have heard. Can you please tell Ambode that he should go and contest in Ondo state when Mimko finishes his tenure?

I am from Epe and I detest the fact that he is claiming to be from Epe to realize his ambition.

He might have bought over Animashaun and other Epe chiefs with his ill-gotten wealth but some of us are not for sale.
