The university’s best graduating student, Ibrahim Olatunde, has spoken on his success. The 23-year old Olatunde, who studied Computer Science, had a cumulative grade point of 4.76.
While many students break their sleep to read, Olatunde does not. As a result, he had to develop means of studying during the daytime, evening and before sleep.
“I prefer studying in a well ventilated environment and during the day. I could read till midnight before sleeping. But once I go to bed, I don’t wake up for reading again,” he stressed.
According to him, he became determined to get the prize after listening to the 2010 best-graduating student, Fatimot Ajagbe, a female.
His belief then was that if a female student could clinch the award, he, too, could develop himself to achieve the feat.
Olatunde also stressed that living within the school with only three exeats in a semester encouraged him in managing resources, especially his time.
He said the emphasis that the university put on character building distinguished its products from others.
The valedictorian, however, appealed to the Federal Government to come to the aid of private universities in Nigeria since these institutions contribute greatly to the nation’s human and capital development.
Olatunde noted that with taxes from the private sector, the government should grant them access to the Tertiary Education Tax Fund for improved service delivery.
Interestingly, he had a social life at Crescent, only that it was a moderate one. He noted that each time he received his monthly allowance, the first thing he did was to spoil himself with good food and drinks. He said he did not like alcohol, though. Besides, he also had a girlfriend.
They started dating when they were in 200 level. According to him, the relationship with the lady, who was an ICT student, is still strong, though both have graduated.
One thing that Olatunde likes in the her is that she was very understanding when they were in the university. She never disturbed him whenever he wanted to study. According to him, she too was a serious student and she got a second class upper.
Are they then likely to get married?
Laughing, he said, “Well, I can’t really say now. The fact is that I have plans to go and study in the U.S., both for my Master’s and PhD.
“But, you know ladies, they don’t really want to wait. But we are still on it. We chat about it every day.”
He stressed that one thing he would never forget about Crescent was the discipline it instilled in students. But he wants the institution’s authority to expedite work on its sports complex.
The VC of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Saburi Adesanya, who delivered the convocation lecture, urged the Federal Government and other stakeholders to face the reality of funding education, which, he said, entailed the reality of paying fees.
He further advised that there was the need to strengthen the nation’s primary and secondary education.(http://www.mynaijadream.com/2014/11/i-dont-like-reading-at-night.html)

Different strokes for different folks. Biliv it or not what gave him dat 1st class wasn't the time he reads.

That was a nice way of saying he doesn't joke with his sleep. Not telling you to joke with urs but stick to what works for you.

There are guys that have read from day to night but still can't bag 1st class. Also there guys that doesn't have to torture themselves to read and they still bag 1st class.

During my undergraduate days, I didn't like reading at all. Day o, night o, I no wan know. but I had no choice than to manage to read at least something 2days or one day to exams. I tried reading in the middle of the night but dat stuff no be my calling mehn. Even after taking coffee, I would still fall asleep after reading for about 45mins. I had to learn to sleep early and wake around 4 or 5am to read.

Same with me.

I read 2 hours at the school library after everyday lectures.

I only read little at night during Exams and I will definitely sleep off.

Thats it,you need not to follow how your friends, roommates etc read, study yourself well and read when you feel you ill assimilate, less they make you feel lazy and unserious..
moreover, some ppl are exceptionally blessed with brilliance and success in spite of the rate/duration of reading

I do most of my reading during the day. I decided to change my pattern from night reading when my performance, though good was not up to my expectation. When I was in 200 level, my first semester result was 8A's, 1B and 1C in the ten courses we did. That was the semester I changed my reading pattern. Ever since then, it's been a great and overwhelming ride. I'm on my way to bagging a first class when as at my first year, it didn't seem possible. What I do if I must stay awake at night is blogging. I believe it's all about finding out what works for you and sticking to it. I know of many people that function better at night. In fact, one of my friends also a first class guru, blogs during the day when I read and reads at night when I blog.
Kudos to the guy.
