Mich was dreaming. In her dream, her father was smiling at her. He was telling her that she was his princess and he was proud of her. Mich laughed in excitement. Her laughter didn't last long as she felt someone pulling at her hands and legs.
She came awake and found herself staring at Maureen. She sat up and blinked. Who was this girl and what was she doing in her room. No, the room wasn't hers at all. And then, realization dawned on her; she was married and the girl glaring at her was her sister-in-law.
'Hy Maureen'
'Hy to you too, lazy'
Mich turned to the clock on her husband's side close to the lamp. It was just 8am. She blinked again and gazed questionably at her husband's sister.
'Whats the problem?'
'Since you are now married to my brother, don't you know we need breakfast?'
'I am really tired, Maureen. Isn't there a cook?'
'She took ill last week. The responsibility now rest on your shoulders'
Mich sighed, it wasn't as if she couldn't cook. It was long she entered the kitchen. She couldn't remember the last time she cooked. That was after her secondary school. Her mother had insisted she learnt how to prepare meals.
'where is Joel?'
'You were so lazy you didn't hear him bath, dressed and left for the hospital. He is on the morning shift'
'Oh! And he didn't wake me up?'
'why should he? You are simply bad luck'
'Look here Maureen, I am not your mate. I won't take your disrespect anymore. Now leave my room'
'see me See local trouble. Who are you? My brother picked you up from the gutters and out of pity gave you a name and you think you have a room in this house?'
Mich didn't want to argue. After all Maureen wasn't her mate but she would talk to Joel about his mannerless sisters.
'Michelle, you will have to pick Leila up from school, before then, prepare yam and egg sauce for lunch. You married into money, enjoy it'
She walked majestically out of the room. Mich said nothing, she lay down and wondered what she had done for Maureen to treat her so. It wasn't as if she mal-treated her sisters-in-law. An hour later, she walked downstairs in her pyjamas. She was determine to live a normal life. The kitchen was a mess. She did the dishes, swept and moped it spotlessly clean before making a cup of tea for herself.
She was still drinking the tea when Maureen came downstairs. Looking at Mich, she walked to her, seized the the mug from Mich hands, walked to the Kitchen and poured the contents in the sink. She returned, place her hands on her waist and looked at Mich in challenge.
'Imagine, making thick tea when my brother is managing. I'm sure you've never seen a tea as thick as this'
Mich didn't reply. She walked back upstairs and lucked their door. While making the bed, a piece of paper fell off from her pillow. She picked it and read it out loud.
'Morning Mich, had to rush off to the hospital. I am on the morning shift but couldn't bear to wake you up cause you were sleeping so peacefully. Enjoy your day'
He signed it with his name. Mich did the bed, mopped the floor and had another bath, didn't bother making up and went back to sleep.

The beeping of her phone woke her up later that aftenoon. It was Joel.
'Hello'
'Mich, can you please open the door?'
'Okay'
She went on her feet and walked to the door. Swinging it open, she found Joel and Maureen at the door.
'Welcome', she told her husband.
'Than youk. Why did you lock the door?'
Mich stepped away for them to enter. She watched as Maureen placed her brother's briefcase on the bed.
'Afternoon Michelle. Hope you are resting well? We can be friends, you know', Maureen said while smiling.
Mich didn't bother answering. Her sister-in-law was a hypocrite.
'Joel, your wife is not making any effort to make friends with me. Well, God knows that I am trying'
Joel shifted his gaze to Mich. She didn't say a word.
'Mich?'
'Joel, I need to talk to you in private, please'
'Maureen, you may go'
'But she didn't even make Lunch and Leila hasn't eaten'
'I said leave. Prepare something for Leila'
She left them. Mich turned to Joel,
'Joel, Your sister doesn't respect me one bit'
'how?'
She explained the events of the day to him. He listened to her quietly.
'Warn her to stay away from me. If not, I will deal with her. What sort of nonsense is this? Even Tara is a year younger than me, I still respect her as my elder brother's wife'
'I will talk with her'
'You should, I am not her house help'

Tara alighted from her red convertable car. She was dressed amicably in a pair of black jeans trousers and a red v-neck sleeveless blouse. She locked her car and walked majestically into the bank. Her red two inch peep toe echoed as she walked.
She went to the customer care representatives. They all smiled cheerfully when they saw her.
'Goodmorning mrs Nicholas'
'Morning to you too. Is the manager in his office?'
'Yes, ma'am'
In no time, a call was placed to the bank Manager. He instructed one of their agents to escort Tara in. She followed her escort quietly. At the office, she sat down comfortably and stared hard at the man.
Mr Jeremiah was of average height, dark and cute. When he spoke, his voice was firm and clear. He was in his early fourties.
'What can I offer you?'
'I'm okay, thank you'
'Are you here to make another transfer?'
'Actually, yes'
'At your service Ma'am. How much would you want to transfer?'
Tara opened her clutch bag. She removed a piece of paper and placed it on the table for him.
'every information you will need is in there'
she watched him picked the piece of paper smiling. His smiles soon gave way to a frown.
'Are you closing your account with us?'
'It seems I no longer need your services. Please transfer my money to that account'
'But why? Are you sure?'
'Absolutely. You rendered your services to me useless when you decided to run to my husband, informing him on every transactions I make'
Mr Jeremiah was speechless. He had been given a target for that year. Mrs. Nicholas had one of the highest amount of money with them. He knew that he would be at a lost should she suddenly close her acount with them. What would he tell his superiors.
'Ma'am please'
'My mind is made up. Please make the transfer immediately'
She stood up and left the bank with a smile. Now what next?

Jordan was seated in his office and wandered at Mich's behaviour. He knew in his heart that he wanted only the best for her. It was time he got her a jamb form. She definately had to go back to school. He was deep in his thought when his phone rang.
'Hello?'
'Goodmorning Mr. Nicholas'
'Morning mr. Jeremiah'
'Sir, your wife just closed her account with us. Please bring her to order'
'Sorry Mr, Its her money and if she decides to close her account with you then there is nothing I can do'
'But I did everything for you'
'I didn't ask you to. Next time, don't do it again. I'm sure you've learnt your lesson'
Jordan was not suprised at all. His wife was as stubborn as a bull. Soon, his door swung open and she walked in with a smile on her face. Her dress was cut to low.
'Now you listen to me Tara. I don't want you in that blouse ever again. Look, your bossom are almost expose. What is this?'
'Nothing'
She sat down on the seat opposite him then looked down at her blouse. There was nothing wrong with it.
'Why did you just barge into my office? You didn't even tell me you were coming'
'you are my husband. I need no reason to visit you'
'Goodness, you went to the bank with that blouse. Come, we are going to the boutique for another dress'
'how in the hell did you know i was in the bank?'
'your manager called to tell me that you've close your account with them'
'Oh, I'm glad I did'
'You went a bit too far'
'I didn't'
'Its your money, anyway, have you heard from Mich?'
'No. Have you forgotten she was angry with me. All thanks to you and your manager fried'
His secretary walked in with a parcel. It was addressed to Jordan.
'who is it from?'
'I can't say'
while Tara sat there fuming, Jordan unsealed it. Inside, he found a disc. He was curios so he decided to play it in his system.
'What disc is that?', his wife asked him.
'Let me find out'
he inserted it into the disc drive. What he saw suprised and angered him. His little sister was there, naked, having sex with a man. His expression drew Tara's curios stare. Before she got there, he had ejected the disc, flinged it at the floor and went on his feet. Before Tara could blink her eye, her husband was at the door. He picked the disc, broke it into pieces and stepped on them. He was trembling.
'Jordan, what is it?'
'Nothing, go home'
'but you...'
'For once in your life Tara, i don't wish to talk about it'
'Ok'
She went to him for a kiss but he stood rigid. He almost flung her away from him.
'Did I do anything wrong?', Tara asked but Jordan didn't reply. He was still trembling in rage.
'Okay Jordan, I won't wear this blouse again. I will do anything you want but please don't look at me like that. You are scaring me'
'Tara, I said you should go home. What in the hell are you still doing in my office?'
He yelled at his wife. Tara picked her bag and ran out of the office. She was crying so hard by the time she got home.
