Patchesagain: You are a confused man, and CANNOT be trusted, you have quoted 3 different ranges for Bofors with standard shell. You changed from 20km, to 24km, now 27km. So which is which? You don't know anything about Bofors artillery, please shutt up . |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Patchesagain: 1:35pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
mzilakazi: DONE!! CASE CLOSED!! Augugubug says Army-Guide is 100% correct!! We have a max range of 67km End of story |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 1:37pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
. . Anyway, the Indian man said range is 42km at high altitude, so which one is at high altitude? The gun or the target? All photos show the gun at bottom of mountains on level ground, while the gun barrel points to high altitude mountain targets. The only meaning is that the gun is on low altitude firing at target on high altitude 41km away ! .

agaugust: Depends on the ammunition type Standard HE is actually a max range of 24km Unlike the FH-77A the ammunition system of the FH-77B is based on a bagged charge system which enables a wide range of 155 mm ammunition to be fired, including the following main types of projectile: BAE Systems Bofors HE M/77 B, which is a high-capacity shell weighing 42.6 kg and containing 8 kg of TNT or Composition B. This has a maximum range of 24,000 m when fired from the FH-77B howitzer. The round is fully compatible with all Western-manufactured guns and internationally adopted fuzes. http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product4673.html I made a mistake and quoted max range with ERFB Base Bleed which is 27km... and then there is HEER Base Bleed with 30km All of which is irrelevant, you have no Base Bleed |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 1:39pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
Patchesagain: Nope I didnt say that, army guide says V-LAP rocket shell range is 67km, but SANDF says they dont have V-LAP, the best shell South African army has is base bleed with maximum range only 38km SANDF is final authority like Indian army .

I don't know why should we keep on entertaining @Agaugust argument because all that he speaks about is Indian FH-77B which has gone upgrading process to extend its range. The Swedish FH77B as well differ with those of India. Even though Nigeria might be having similar Indian FH77B, the question that remain is " Do they have the same specs as their Indian counterpart?" The man keep on and on about Indian artillery. India would have not come to SA to buy T6 and T5-52 if they had better artillery. http://www.military-today.com/artillery/t5_52.htm |

agaugust: No, the gun is at high altitude - its in the middle of a mountain range 1 Like |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 1:40pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
agaugust: So if the Indian army is the final authority you agree that the max range for the FH77B is 30km in standard operating conditions? |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 1:41pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
agaugust: Depends on the ammunition type According to Army Guide max range is 24km using standard HE ammunition and Charge 9. I made the mistake of quoting the wrong ammunition type (an older BB charge) |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by patches689: 1:42pm On Nov 19, 2014 |
agaugust: Yes, the SANDF says that max range with Base Bleed is 38km Does it say we do not have VLAP? No. Max range is over 50km with VLAP 1 Like |

The Indian Army bought T6 and T5-52 in SA, proudly manufactured by DENEL. Are the Indian stupid to have made that purchase. http://www.military-today.com/artillery/t5_52.htm http://www.army-guide.com/eng/product1270.html 1 Like |

HAHAHAH!!! THE TRUTH COMES OUT!!! AFTER MANY MONTHS OF RUMORS WHICH LEAD CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM AND CERTAIN BLOGGERS TO CLAIM NIGERIA WAS GOING TO ACQUIRE ADVANCED 4TH GEN FIGHTERS... THE TRUTH HAS COME OUT!! NIGERIA IS SIMPLY ACQUIRING SH!TTY SCORPION JETS!!! NO TUCANO's! NO SU-30's! NO JF-17 THUNDERS!! REBEL WORTHY AIRCRAFT FOR A REBEL WORTHY AIRFORCE!! The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is looking to buy 12 Scorpion jets from Textron AirLand to equip a single squadron in order to fight the Boko Haram insurgency gripping the country. Air Vice Marshal Rufus A Ojuawo, the director of operations for the Nigerian Air Force, said the NAF wants and needs the Scorpion and that a formal request to buy could be made soon. He was speaking at the IQPC Fighter Conference in London yesterday, the Wall Street Journal reports. “We are really handicapped in attacking the enemy where we want,” Ojuawo said. “We need capabilities for a timely response.” The NAF uses seven Mi-24 attack helicopters for counter-insurgency operations as well as 11 F-7 fighter jets, 21 L-39ZA Albatros, 12 MB-339 and 12 Alpha Jet trainer/light attack aircraft. However, the majority of these aircraft are several decades old and have been worn down by attrition. The F-7s are unable to carry precision guided air to surface weapons while the country’s ATR 72 surveillance aircraft are able to detect insurgent activity but not deploy weapons. Ojuawo told IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly that the Air Force has obsolete equipment with low serviceability rates and that it needs a rapid response capability with concentrated firepower. He added that the NAF would shortly argue the Scorpion’s case with the government in the hope of initially buying a squadron’s worth of aircraft and possibly more in the future. http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=37048:nigeria-looking-to-buy-scorpion-jets&catid=35:Aerospace&Itemid=107 There you have it! The Nigerian Arifroce: - cannot deploy precision weapons - is largely obsolete (confirmed) - has low serviceability - only has 7 Mi-24's operational 3 Likes

South Africa's 4 ART battalion will destroy all Nigeria's artillery battery in just few minutes. I doubt if they will even be able to stand an hour. 2 Likes 1 Share |

patches689: Unbelievable!!! Scorpion fighters. Nah, nah, nah, nah. This Nigerian military is slowly reducing into ragtag force. Damn, how will these people ever stand SANDF offensive? I doubt if they will ever repel it. Their air defence is very weak, I mean they are weak at every link. 1 Like |

So, this means Nigerian military does not have Airforce at all. They cannot fire a single missile from their platforms. Indeed, it is a disaster. |

andrewza:losing choppers during a campaign or even during training, isnt a strange thing in the military.France,USA and others lose drones and jets virtually every month against ISIS.their is nothing to mock about our war against boko haram,we are winning, not being "relieved" by the british.contrary to your misguided opinion,we didnt waste any money buying useless aircrafts,we bought the aircrafts that we needed, unlike the SAAF,who despite their paltry number of aircrafts, neither has the manpower nor aviation fuel to fly them. 1 Like |

EVarn: @Evarn, go and sit down boss, you really do not have a military at all. No wonder, civilians are helping your military because they have realised something problematic within your force. However, let me remind you that your military can never stand before SANDFs way. We can crush it and colonise the whole of Nigeria. |

One thing that I am certain about is that SA has a powerful artillery that can even send the children of Pharaoh home. Even during those years of the bush war, Russia and Cuba knew that SA possessed a massive artillery that could send back any strong force in the world packing. That was the artillery that protected the borders of SA. |

andrewza:you make me smile love, even you know that over a quater of your most vaunted brigade fled the battle in france,do not preach petty sentiments to me.though the SAB initially secured and held delville, german forces later pushed the south africans from the south of delville up north with constant bombardment that killed over half of your men.the invasion of france was another thing entirely, adolf hitler was a very arrogant man,a mistake that he paid dearly for,if germany hadnt antagonized USSR,history would have been different |

mzilakazi:what part of the khalahari did you emerge from?,what height of the drakensberg did you descend from?....germany is thousands of km away from namibia, while SA is practically in the same region!,and to add to the matter, germany was fighting a battle against the allied forces in europe!,of course these were enough to make germany loose hold on the african continent.the same way ethiopia was able to repel italian forces, because of the war in europe and north africa.catfish. |
