Ekpe Coronation, Cameroon, interesting to note that the cloth behind the elder is only made in and ordered from Igboland. [flash=480,390] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZTM2dQxRBs[/flash] |

AndreUweh: church has no right to set standards for traditional so-called masquerades. We will use all charms and related factors including sacrifice as custom demands. it is not stage carnival performance. it is a real ritual. 3 Likes |

AndreUweh: those are fake Igbo. True Nidigbo are Pagans. just because some have adopted christianity, it doesnt change the National Religion of Igboland. 3 Likes |

PAGAN9JA: @Pagan_9ja. . Thanks for the wonderful post Otegokwa m ji wee n'agwa ndi mmadu na omenala anyi abughi ihe egwurigwu Its been a long time that I've been saying that our culture and mode of spirituality is not a plaything or a costume party. . . If you do not want to participate in the true omenani then please do not. . . .but it is totally wrong to say that we have to reform our spiritual practices to a carnival showcase in order to suite those that are christians. .I don't see any one saying that catholic mass should be turned into a circus performance 2 Likes |

I love the Egungun festival which happens among the yoruba. Masquerades dance here and there in elaborated costume and crowd jeer and shout in exictment. Hi guys, I apologise if this sounds silly, but how do they choose who becomes the masquarade? Is the role passed down within families? And do these masquarades have any dark powers, or are they harmless festive characters? |
