There is no outcry because the hospitals are still functioning with the doctors alone. so nobody gives a crap if Johesu is on strike. unlike when doctors go on strike the whole hospital is shut down no work people feel the impact more hence the outcry.

Some months ago, Nigerian doctors went on strike. What started as days of industrial action became weeks, then months. The masses were not happy. There were bitter complaints from every nook and cranny of the society about how insensitive, selfish, wicked and greedy Nigerian doctors are. It was as though medical practice in Nigeria was reserved for the 'meanies', seeing as everybody called the names with sweeping generalizations. Many said the doctors took an oath to protect lives and were not living up to it. Anyway, in the end, matters were apparently rectified and they resumed work.

Today- some months after the NMA strike was called off- JOHESU is on strike. JOHESU is an association of every other health worker in the hospital, minus doctors. The strike has lasted for sometime now. The doctors have been attending to patients alone. There has been deafening silence on this matter. There is no public outrage or outcry. Nobody is telling them they're not living up to their oath.

The interesting part is that the reasons for the strike of few months ago, are about the same reasons for the strike of today, yet, nobody is calling anybody greedy or insensitive or wicked.

There's undoubtedly a disconnect somewhere. I'm still trying to figure out what/where exactly it is.

I thought somebody said that Doctors can do everything and dont need no JOHESU.. angry

Thank God that in Toronto we dont have JOHESU.

Doctors are not saying that JOHESU members are unimportant. They are only saying that everybody is not equal. All health workers can't be treated equally. It's impossible.
And lemme ask you, why do you guys lock up everywhere when you go on strike? You guys should endeavour to leave all hospital property as you go on your strikes, and see what doctors can achieve with medical students.
Again, is it not amazing that when only doctors go on strike, hospitals are shut down, but when the rest of the workers (over 90% of the work force) go on strike, skeletal services are rendered. It means that NMA alone matches up to over 7 or more JOHESU groups. Therefore each JOHESU group should only receive 1/7 of doctors' benefits. Hehehe

if i remenber well, NMA went on strike jst to frustrate the FG decision to meet JOHESU's demands inaddition to their outrageous 23 "commandments" to the FG. they left patients to die because of their selfishness and rivalry with JOHESU, & that's highly condemnable.
besides JOHESU did not just suddenly withdraw all services from the hospitals nationwide unlike NMA...they are not that heartless.

This shows you the envy people have for doctors. They can call them names but if anybody else should strike it is ok even if they die.
I think Nigerians generally have an extremely low IQ and poor sense of self esteem and that is why i advise people to go into preaching to maximize gains from the gullible citizens of this country.

UCH is completely grounded meanwhile it means nothing to the public but if doctors just threaten strikes; we are called witches and wizards. A very daft public i must say.

I think the generality of nigerians need to seek necessary knowledge on the healthcare delivery system all over the world since time immemorial. They need to accord doctors the respect they have earned through hardwork and distinction and stop making careless and unreasonable statements about their sacrifices....lest we all suffer for it at a time not too far from now. Lets reason together and allow order in the system. All fingers are not equal....Give respect to whom it is rightly due.

JOHESU should be given good renumeration but not to equal that of doctors....NEVER!

Solution to all these strikes is the privatisation of the health sector, so that every one gets paid according to what he/she does, not according to what others are paid.
Another thing I find absurd is the cry for increase in the retirement age, why don't people want to retire? And we would be blaming government that jobs are not being provided.
As for NAFDAC, I dont know why they want to be paid CONHESS when they do not work in a hospital.
IT IS WELL!
Re: Johesu Strike: Why The Public Silence? by titanhayes: 11:57am On Nov 24, 2014
I overheard two matrons in UCH raining courses on whoever is against the progress of their profession. No be small thing o!
I know JOHESU will kill herself soon. If the govt approves what they clamour for; then its not worth being a doctor...they want equal pay with doctors! They ve got guts!
And the Juniors on JOHESU know this clamour will only favour the nurses, pharms etc.Once they achieve that, they ll dump Johesu. Then another group will surface again fighting for equality instead of equity.

My biggest disappointment in this brouhaha lies with the pharmacists. It's soo unfortunate that they have to stoop so low all in the name of fraternity, just to fight doctors. Such an absurdity!

After going through the communiqué issued recently by graduate nurses following their withdrawal from johesu, i was deeply impressed. No doubt the nurses have some demands on the table but the manner they have adopted is really matured. They know fighting for their rights as a solitary body is more feasible (unlike pharmacists asking FG to make cleaners consultants lol).

Pharmacists are people of great learning, arguably second only to the doctors in the hospital setup. It's high time they take their rightful place, pull out from the charlatans and let their voices be heard.

The Pharmacists are the most vociferous and the most dispensable in the health sector.
It's evident that they want to play the game of numbers inculcating other juniors to their ridiculous demands.
They should focus on that which is important...drug manufacturing.

Pharm guru, the truth is that ur strike is not effective. Even before the strike patients were used to buying most of their drugs outside. Now that doctor give them prescription sheet to source their drugs elsewhere - as usual, they see no difference, or need to complain. Your work in the healtj sector is to provide drugs and as long as you ignore that in order to encroach on field of doctors for ego and monetary reasons, so long will you suffer loss of job satisfaction. No amount of money paid you will make up for that loss. Mark it.
