Oyedepo, Dangote, Adenuga To Pay N400 M Luxury Tax Each For Private Jets by xristian19: 11:16am On Nov 24, 2014
BISHOP David Oyedepo, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Dr. Mike Adenuga are among the top 10 wealthy Nigerians who will shell out hundreds of millions annually as luxury tax due to the imposition of a whooping $4,000 luxury tax by Aviation Ministry on private jet owners and operators per departure.

Information available states that most of these super rich Nigerians make use of their toys at last thrice in a week either within or outside Nigeria.  Some of them use them five times in a week.  Those who have more than one are mostly affected.

According to our sources, among the four jets owned by Bishop Oyedepo (Gulfstream V and G550, Bombardier and Gulfstream G430), he uses three regularly personally and for his missionary work.  Thus, his luxury tax annually will be an average of N399 million.  Alhaji Aliko Dangote who has three private jets in his hanger will also pay an average of N399 million per annum.  Dr. Mike Adenuga, Jnr, whose Falcon 7x and Bombardier jet are used for personal and business purpose should pay an average of N266 million.  Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his Akwa Ibom counterpart, Governor Godswill Akpabio would shell out an average of N166.4 million annually.  Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor falls into the same category of N166.4 million naira payer.  Meanwhile, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, Jide Omokorie and Ifeanyi Ubah would pay an average of N133 million annually, while Jimoh Ibrahim falls within the N100 million category.  Furthermore, the richest woman in Nigeria, Folorunsho Alakija would spend N66 million on luxury tax.

Findings by ENCOMIUM Weekly revealed that the top 10 private jet owners who would cough millions annually on the new luxury tax are below.

The clash of the titans between the Federal Government and private jet owners reached a crescendo with the imposition of the $4,000 luxury tax on private jet owners and operators per departure.  A memo was sent to all private jet operators stating that Nigerian registered private jets would henceforth pay $3,000 for every departure, while foreign registered private jets would pay $4,000.

Why should entrepreneurs bear the brunt for a corrupt and clueless govt !!! Instead of govt to ramp up strategy on increasing its export profile it thinks taxing successful people is a way to make up for Macro economics deficits its forseeing ...For 15 years there was a boom yet we don't have a single refinery.. If we did falling oil prices won't affect us much as we would have made up by exporting refined products , and besides we need to do more to export more gas as it is even more profitable than crude

That's the normal thing in a decent country. U tax the rich well to Tkia of others. If u have enough money to run 3private jets then u shld b useful to the society. The only problem with this govt is the cash will end up in one ministers account. Or they buy Anoda bomb-proof car

I think this will cause the business class to show more interest in how the country is governed, because, none of them will want to pay that much tax and keep quiet when the public treasury is being looted by politicians and civil servants. Because, collectively, they have the power and influence to see that those in government do the right thing.

This is still a below the average measure at tackling the present economic crisis. Where will all this taxes end? We have a negative export-import balance and the we are here increasing taxes on luxury goods maintenance.

Nigerian entrepreneurs are living off the state. Most of them were created by OBJ who was on a mission to foist fascism on Nigeria. GEJ the clueless just followed the trend. They have been given unbelievable tax breaks, import duty waivers (one of those waivers on cement alone for Dangote gave the man $5bn in 3 years), have assurance of government contracts, pay low salaries to children of the low/middle class that parents have spent life saving to train. On top of that they are not internationally competitive and will not be in a million years if they don't start paying taxes. In the US, everybody looks down on lazy poor people who depend on social security and gov t subsidized food stamps but now everybody has started thinking also of the lazy rich who just finance elections and settle down to suck more from the 'feeding bottle' when their Godsons come into power.
If you think Dangote, Otedola, Tinubu, Rabiu, Jim Ovia, Elumelu deserve their wealth you have my sympathy.
