What I do suspect is that it was a covert assassination sponsored by America's CIA and that Abacha's Chief Security Officer General Hamza Al Mustapha was some how involved in the plot to poison him;
Probably whilst liaising with General Ibrahim B. Babangida (IBB) who is a relative of Abdulsalami Abubakar who immediately succeeded Abacha as head of state.

The fact that Al Mustapha was first on the scene and that he was the key player in ensuring that the leadership was handed to IBB's cousin Abulsalami Abubakar, is enough for me to make him one of the chief suspects. The other suspects are obviously IBB and Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The fact that the same Abdulsalami Abubakar (who was probably just a figure head taking instructions from IBB who was probably himself being instructed by America /CIA ) later threw Al Mustapha in prison just goes to prove that there is no honour amongst criminals.[/size][/b]
