News reaching us from Damatutu,
Yobe State capital indicates that
gunmen, suspected to be members of
the Boko Haram sect, Monday
morning invaded state capital
shooting at anybody on sight.
It was gathered that the gunmen’s
first point of attack was the Yobe State
University located in Damaturu.
The attack, which is ongoing at the
time of filing this report, has crippled
early morning movement in the
northeastern state.
A resident said it was obvious the
attackers were out to capture the
capital city.

Men of the dreaded Boko Haram sect
Monday morning invaded Damaturu
the Yobe State Capital.
The insurgents who came into the
town at about 5am from the Gujba
axis south east of the town were
shooting sporadically and triggering
off explosives.
Our correspondent who was run out
of his house in Jerusalem area along
with other thousands of residents
heard more than five explosions with
deafening sound in the air.
Residents of Jerusalem and Pawari,
bye pass along Gujba road have all
deserted their house for safety.
The Yobe State University was
reported to be under attack but there
was no report of casualties.

is under heavy attack by suspected
Boko Haram terrorists who,
according to fleeing residents, may
have surrounded the town.
Explosions and gunshots are being
heard in some parts of the Yobe
State capital.
A resident of Damaturu, Yaya
Haruna, told PREMIUM TIMES that
the shooting started at about 6a.m.
“It is as if they have surrounded us
all here; there is sound of explosion
and serious shooting. We are all
lying down on the floor with our
families ; please pray for our safety,
that we survive this… ”
“We are in serious confusion now,
we are just hearing gunshots and
explosions on the southern part of
the city and people are fleeing”,
said another embattled resident,
Malam Abdulmalik.
The resident said he was woken by
loud sounds of gunshots and
explosions which started at about
6am.
An official of the SSS in Maiduguri,
who usually doesn’t want to be
named in the media, confirmed in a
text message sent to our reporter
that “Damaturu may be under
attack now”.
Damaturu is 135 km West of
Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

Saharareporters wrote that a large contingent of militants arrived the state capital and began massive shooting and bombing in the city. A journalist with Channels television is reportedly missing. The militants have also attacked schools, a mobile police base and several state institutions in the raid. They are reportedly approaching the government house with the aim of taking over the state capital.

Unsettling news coming from Damaturu, Yobe
State, suggests that the capital in under
attack.
According to Leadership, the heavy attack
involved shooting and explosion and was
launched around 6:30am.
The terrified residents of the town were forced
to flee in fear for their lives.
One of them identified as Malam Abdulmalik
disclosed:
“As I am talking to you now, we are in serious
confusion now, gunshots and explosions
everywhere especially from the southern part
of the city and people are fleeing.”
Another escaping local narrated that they had
been woken up by multiple gunshots and
blasts adding that the attack might be the
work of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

A resident, who pleaded for anonymity, said:
“We are running for our lives…we are under
attack… We don’t know where to hide, the
shooting is all over….”
Premium Times also reports on the issue
saying that the insurgents have apparently
beseiged the town.
One Damaturu, Yaya Haruna, said:
“It is as if they have surrounded us all here;
there is sound of explosion and serious
shooting. We are all lying down on the floor
with our families ; please pray for our safety,
that we survive this… “
An official SSS source from Maiduguri
confirmed the attack with a text message
reading: “Damaturu may be under attack now”.
The Nation correspondents was in the
epicenter, having been run out of his house in
Jerusalem area along with other thousands of
residents. He said he heard 5deafening
explosions.
According to Sahara Reporters the gunmen,
who have already attacked schools and mobile
police base, are heading for the government
house with the aim to seize the capital.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck
Jonathan has recently requested for another
extension of emergency rule in Yobe, Borno
and Adamawa states. However the move was
not warmly and unanimously accepted in the
National Assembly.
