Enugu is an important city of historical importance to Nigeria and Ndigbo in particular and their is no need making this article lenghty, by devlving into the historical importancy of this city.It is important to note that this city has played important role in the educational development many prominent Nigerians. It is however, unfortunate and dis-heartening that the present crop of leadership in Enugu, under Sullivan Chime, through its insensitivity to the economic situation of most Enugu people, has made it very difficult for an average parent to send their children to school, especially tertially institutions. A good look at the management of the university and politechnic, shows that the government is more interested in financial exploitation of student than improving the study environment or quality of education given in this schools. It is worthy to note that the tuition as at 2007,when Dr Nnamani was leaving office was 30000K for the state university and 17000k for the state politechnic.I cant say that the quality of education then was better, but I can say without fear of being corrected that the academic calender was stable and there was no disruptions to academic activities,as we witnessed under the present dispensation. The school fees have also increased to a minimum of 175000k to 70000k for both institutions. If a poor state like Ekiti can charge 50000k,which was recently reduced to 20000k by the state governor, why then should Enugu indigenes be made to go through hell to get tertiary education.Of course, the consequencies of this inhuman educational policy is the increasing level of social malaise such as:cultism, prostitution, armed robbery and other sumdry criminal activities in the state. Why the general public, the students union government, the students, parents and other stakeholders kept mute over these astronomical increases within a short period of have remained a surprised to concerned observers. 2015 is around the corner and it is expected that the electorates will use the opportunities to identify candidate that will help them in meeting their needs, especially their educational needs.Education is vital to life and we must all work together to ensure that no segment of our society is denied this basic right, because of their economic or social status in our society.

EBSU students too are lamenting bro.
The question is, are you getting the value of what you pay? Does the N175000 you pay for university education equal to the quality of education you recieve?
If it is below the quality of education you recieve then the money is not being accounted for. Then the fee must go down.

That is the problem bro.even if the quality is worth the money it does not warrant such high cost.Even oil producing states dont pay that much. Our leaders in the east still have a long way to go in the area of taking care of their people.

I school at IMT ENUGU and i can tell you catigorically, that we pay 40,000thousand for a session .and another 40,000 for hostel fee which is mandatary for all year one student. The state government should please help in reducing the fees considering the level of Economy crisis the country is facing.

Am also an indigine of Enugu state, the govt should pls come to our aid.

I wonder if you have ever created a topic on the good infrasture being installed in the state which stands out among all eastern states combined. Look i know you want to 'call a spade a spade' but must you start comparing the present and former tenure? Am not from Enugu but i hear how outstanding Chime's rigim has been so far in the whole east. Why not try to balance your misgiving about the guys higher institution fees inflation...

This write-up is not about comparing the present government with the former ones, neither is it intended to cast aspersions on the achievements of this government.I got involve in this because of poor students, whose educational careers are hanging in the air because of this astronomical increases and if you think we shouldnt talk about this, then we have lost our sense of humanity.Mind you,am neither schooling nor sponsoring anyone in those schools.
