Hello house. Please what is the process to obtain spouse visa for a student studying in canada. Is it advisable to apply for the open work permit straight up or just 6 months visit visa? What documents are required and what is the processing time? |

How to I get a driver's license in Toronto ? |
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by Doortun(m): 1:23pm On Dec 13, 2014 |
jojcanada: jojcanada: Sponsoring is hard and nearly impossible if you are still studying. The best you can get is a short term visitation and it is usually for graduation/convocation. I know people who got denied on based on that. For driver's licence google MTO driver. You have to write a test to obtain your G1 then you could proceed to stage 2 and 3. Better if you still hold youvr Nigerian driver's license. |
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by jojcanada(f): 11:52am On Dec 15, 2014 |
Thanks for the response. He will apply for short visit and we'll take it from there. I hope that his travel history and high profile job will make it easy for him to get visit visa. On the driver's licence issue. I have a full UK drivers licence. Will I still need to write test? Seen some conflicting info on Google. Doortun: |
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by Doortun(m): 11:27pm On Dec 15, 2014 |
jojcanada: Well, I cannot say if your hubby's application will be approved or denied, there really has to be a genuine reason, any reason can be genuine if you convince them beyond doubt that he would be going only for visit and return as approved. You could claim experience which will reduce your waiting time. But you still have to write the first exam. UK drive on the right side of the road while it is opposite in Canada. |
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by Nobody: 4:47am On Dec 16, 2014 |
jojcanada:If you have a full UK license (non expired), then you could exchange your license with that of Alberta without writing any test. I don't know about the province you want to stay but most are similar any way. Alberta has Reciprocal Licensing Agreements with the following countries in addition to all Canadian jurisdictions and territories: Australia, Austria, Belgium, England, France, Germany, Isle of Man, Japan, Northern Ireland, Republic of Korea, Scotland, Switzerland, United States and Wales. I also googled Ontario for you as that is a popular destination. Exchange a driver’s licence You can exchange an out-of-province licence for an Ontario licence, if you are re-locating from: any Canadian province or territory Canadian Forces Europe U.S. States Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Isle of Man, Japan, Korea, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland. What tests do I take? You could need to take certain driving tests before you get a full driver’s licence. It depends on: how long you have been driving if the valid driver’s licence you have was issued in a country, province or state that does or does not have an exchange agreement in place with Ontario 2+ years driving experience (with exchange) You only need to take an eye test, when you apply. After you pass this test, you get a full licence. https://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/exchange-foreign-drivers-licence In summary, the only test you would take is the eye test. 1 Like 1 Share |

Hi Room, Just thinking of applying for a masters in Canada. I already got offer to study in the UK but I don't think I wanna go to the UK as the economy ain't so good. I am 32 and grad since 2007. I've been working since then but desire a Masters degree abroad. My question is, What are my chances of me getting a stay later in canada. Let me also add that I am not yet married and very open to settle down there should i get a good offer . Thanks. |

Went winter jacket hunting today and I'm confused. A friend advised canada goose which is about $500 and above. What other brands can I get that will keep cold at bay and not break the bank? |

jojcanada:In my opinion, I can't say this or that particular brand is the best as there are several of them. my advice is that you visit a big mall. You would find several shops selling clothes and coats. Speak to a customer service rep and you would be fine. Just budget anything between $150-$200 for a coat with very good down feathers. With regards to Canadian goose, hmmm. Seems you are a cash madam. I think they are overpriced cos of the real coyote fur trim on the hood of their jackets. |
Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by jojcanada(f): 10:22am On Jan 04, 2015 |
Cash madam ke? I claim it sha. I hate cold so I will rather deprive myself in other areas than be cold. Plus better to invest in a coat that will last many winters even though as a woman I can't see how I will have only one coat and use for more than one winter. Hmmmmmm. Woman wahala. I'll go to a different mall today and see. Got my first feel of snow yesterday which was still mild so I need coat asap. Luckily still being driven around. On accommodation, I'm currently staying in a luxury condo with a friend but sadly have to move closer to school next week. Kijiji has not been a great resource. I've also tried easyroommate and places4students with no luck. What's the best way to find affordable accommodation? 1 Like |

I will advise you consider the OPW for spouse of Foreign students. He is eligible for it and its inclusive of a TRV. Make sure you prove that you are enrolled full time. Enjoy your studies. jojcanada: 1 Like |

Re: Nigerian Students In Canada: How Do You Survive? by Nobody: 6:00am On Jan 06, 2015 |
jojcanada:I and my wife got Columbia jackets for ourselves. They are very good quality and still much affordable. Parka type jackets are our favorites, they are always very thick and packed with plenty down feathers. http://www.columbiasportswear.ca/en/sale-discount-outlet-womens?prefn1=technologyInitiative&prefv1=Warm There are many other makes out there that are excellent like mountainhardwear, mec, northface e.t.c http://www.mountainhardwear.com/skiing-snowboarding-apparel-equipment/?prefn1=genderGroup&prefv1=Womens http://www.mec.ca/shop/jackets-womens/50021+50093/ http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/women-s.html With accommodation, kijiji is still the best option since it's the biggest online classified website in Canada. Your other option is to ask people like course mates or in a gathering like a church. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
