When Nigeria, on October 3, 2013, announced the introduction of a new automotive policy aimed at discouraging the importation of wholly assembled automobile and encourage local manufacturing, it seemed like a tall dream, but building on recent local assembly successes by Hyundai and Nissan was indigenous company Innoson’s unveiling of its new brand of cars last week. Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited founded by Nigerian industrialist, Chief Innocent Chukwuma unveiled its new cars – IVM Umu, IVM Umu and IVM Uzo manufactured at the company’s Nnewi plant in Anambra State, South east Nigeria. IVM FOX IVM UMU 70 percent of the parts used in manufacturing the cars were locally sourced, heralding the emergence of a local car manufacturing industry that will in the nearest future serve the region. Already, the company has disclosed it plans to take its brand to neighbours in West Africa, with the Republic of Benin and Ghana on its radar. The company had earlier impressed with its trucks and buses. The range of Innoson brands are already enjoying patronage locally, something lacking in the past, which has stifled the growth of several indigenous manufacturers. But across Africa, locally-made goods are beginning to earn respect and desired patronage through quality assurance and competitive pricing. Former governor of Nigeria’s Anambra State where the Innoson plant is located, Dr Peter Obi had become a frequent buyer of the locally made vehicles by the time he left office. Founder of the car-making company, Chukwuma said Obi still patronizes his company. Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) is expected to soon take delivery of Pickups made by Innoson. PICK UP for the Nigerian Road Safety Corp The country’s minister of trade and investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga at the event held in Nnewi, commended Innoson Vehicles Company (IVC) for producing the first Nigeria-made vehicles. He said such an investment is necessary to expand the country’s manufacturing frontiers. 21 auto-companies have already signed commitments with technical partners to set up local assembly operations, according to Nigeria’s National Automotive Council (NAC). http://www.ventures-africa.com/2014/12/innoson-unveils-first-made-in-nigeria-cars/ 9 Likes 1 Share |

Lovely and great. I love the front view of the red car. Kudos to Innoson and GEJ's administration for the positive development. It is imperative that these vehicles are at the least 25 to 30% cheaper than their foreign counterparts. Else it will be forced patronage by government agencies only. 4 Likes |

This is realy a splendid news. I think the Federal Government as well as state government should direct all Agencies and Parastatals to use Nigeria made cars. Movie makers too should be asked to use made in Nigeria cars for all their movies, this is how other countries develop their auto industries. Check India, US, UK, Germany, Japan, China etc all have similar stories. They all patronize their locally made cars whether in movies or government functions. I think Nigeria will be great again. The only probkem now is insurgency in Northern Nigeria then followed by corruption. But the way things are going, development with time may force corruption out and then we will have insurgency to battle with. God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria. 4 Likes |

Congratulations to lnnoson and private sector friendly/thinking government we have right now. People abused the president when he said Nigeria would soon be exporting cars, who's CLUELESS now. Left to some others we know, Nigeria will never be ripe to do anything new except to keep importing everything in the name of best quality. They complain about everything, shout change in the day time yet work hard like BATs at night just so everything can stay the same to their benefit. Automobile manufacturing is taking shape, railways are progressing too, agriculture is moving forward, power will also fall in line. I just hope some angry people would not have bombed all their people out of hate by the time this country is completely transformed. Please let the transformation continue cause if these backward guys mistakenly get to power they will reverse all the progress already made and return us back to the era of state control of everything. They've done it before. Nigeria will get there!! Kudos innoson. 8 Likes 2 Shares |
