and that says that brazil ( a country that has never developed a single air to air missile) took the lead where?

it says that denel sign an agreement with the brazilian defence corp to develop the A~Darter SRAAM,why cant denel do it alone?,even if partnership is needed to facilitate production and augment cost through sponsorship, why patner with brazil,a country which according to your words: "hasnt developed a single AAM missile"?.it also says that the brazilian defence industry leads the designing and production of the SRAAM.

Uhh... lets think for a second... because brazil is also buying the Gripen?

These aspects

The Gripen:

1. Has a heavier payload.

2. More Power.

3. Faster.

4.Better radar. Out ranging.

5. 8 Hardpoints.

6. Better weapons.

7. Higher G-limit

Which makes it better, it can easily eat the JF-17.

Note: The JF-17 can't carry all those weapons and not all of them are integrated.

What makes the JF-17 better? Tell us Henry?

Denel Dynamics heads the programme, and it is based in South Africa. The Brazilian military contracted Denel to even prepare a facility in Brazil for the manufacture of the missile.

SA supplied them with missile seeker heads and did work on one of their indigenous missile.

Funding will change.

Brazil is buying a modern version, the Gripen NG New Generation with state of the art 2014 technology. South Africa is stuck with the old version obsolescent Gripen C/D with 20 year old technology.

NAF JF-17 devastating Thunder adds up to NAF ATR-42 Surveyor and NAF Beechcraft ISTAR making Nigeria 100 years ahead of South Africa in air power and technology with unquestionable overwhelming air superiority

All flying activities of the South African Air Force's (SAAF's) fleet of Agusta A109 Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) have ceased and, in effect, the fleet is subject to yet another grounding.

Despite the type being required by the SAAF to take pressure off the Oryx medium utility fleet, it has never lived up to expectations and the fleet has been the subject of groundings numerous times.

The most recent grounding followed a March 2013 crash when an A109 on aerial patrol in the Kruger National Park flew into ground, killing all five on board. As a result, the course converting existing helicopter pilots to the A109 was temporarily stopped, pending the investigation. After some months of inactivity, the severe budgetary constraints affecting the SAAF resulted in a shortage of funds to keep the A109 fleet flying, only returning to flying status in November that year.

Now, it appears that the surviving 26 airframes, operated by three squadrons and an advanced flying school, have been grounded once again since late October. The reason therefore is unclear, with both the SAAF and the SANDF not responding to requests for information.

Whilst lack of funds is once again being cited by sources as a cause, even more ominous is that another reason being bandied about for the grounding is poor record keeping. It is alleged that the individual responsible for keeping the technical log-books up to date has resigned, leaving the status of the books in a shambles.

It will take the Air Force some time to sort out and ensure that the logbooks are up-to-date and accurate, resulting in the fleet being grounded. This has affected 15 Squadron (Durban), 17 Squadron (Zwartkop), 19 Squadron (Hoedspruit) and 87 Helicopter Flying School (Bloemfontein).

The A109 ground simulator is being used so that the pilots can maintain their proficiency, particularly when it comes to instrument flying.

The A109 has been the black sheep of SAAF's helicopter fleet, never living up to expectations. Deemed too complex to convert newly qualified pilots onto helicopters, it has also been reported that the helicopter can neither carry operational loads in high heat conditions nor fly in strong wind.

According to the SAAF, typical missions for the A109 includes training, search and rescue, rope extraction & rappelling, trooping, medical evacuation (casevac), cargo transport, border patrol, peacekeeping, communications and urban operations.

The A109 LUH was purchased to replace the elderly Alouette III helicopter which had been in service since 1962 in the light utility role. Delivery of the 30 A109 helicopters purchased from the Anglo-Italian AgustaWestland helicopter company under Project Flange commenced in 2005 and has been beset with difficulties and delays. Four airframes have been written-off in crashes, some of which resulted in a temporary fleet grounding until the cause of the crash was determined. An option for a further ten aircraft was not exercised.

Shout Afrikaa flies 8 Gripens and ice frost froze 18 Gripen jets all old C/D versions with now obsolete radar, that's why Brazil refused to buy your outdated versions with outdated radar and avionics of almost 20 year old technology. Brazil is buying Gripen NG.....New Generation....NG version that South Africa CANNOT afford shocked shocked

NAF is buying 40 devastating units of devastating JF-17 Thunder with latest state of the art year 2014 technology. Do I need to remind you that we are no longer on page 1 of this thread ? Nigeria is intelligently and systematically building the second biggest and second most powerful air force in Africa, second only to Egypt.

We gonna dwarf every other country on this continent and Egypt itself has to be very careful as Nigerian military power grows wild like an angry Lion.

China is buying J-10 because they build it, Pakistan is not buying J-10 because they build their own JF-17, makes a lot of sense.

JF-17 is being used to replace F-16 and built to match the best F-16 jet in this world.

JF-17 is built to challenge Indian Su-30 MKI, not to beat the flanker but to challenge it and keep India away from Pakistan.

Pakistan may get the J-31 stealth jets to beat Indian Su-30 MKI, and in future Nigeria may follow Pakistan and NAF could buy a few J-31 stealth jets to keep up our equalization and matching with Pakistan since we train together for combat.

JF-17 has waiting customers including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Venezuela, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, Argentina, etc.

Nigeria is gonna test JF-17 in real combat and the world will come rushing for it and NAF will train them ! Nigeria is also asking for full technology transfer of JF-17 Thunder and we want to be the second manufacturing centre for the world, we will become Africa's first nation to manufacture a 4th generation jet fighter on Afro-Soil.

Reason why the whole of Pretoria is Butt-Hurt and there may be plenty of suicides because of this....SA Police on red alert watching out for suicides shocked shocked

.

Long emotional post from our resident fraudster

Not even worth responding to with anything other than derision and disdain.

Junk Fighter 17 is a poor mants F-16, developed and purchased by Pakistan as no one would sell them anything. Even the people who built it for them (China) chose the J-10 over it.

and it doesnt even compare to the F-16 Block 40, let alone the Grip C/D

One out of date source - Augusta grounded due to an air-crash investigation (standard operating policy for all organized airforces in the world)

And another that says they were grounded due to paper work on air-craft maintenance being messed up by a guy retiring.

This proves what exactly? That the SAAF is competent and takes maintenance seriously?
