As the preparations for the 2015 general elections gather momentum, the General Overseer of Resurrection Praise Ministries International, Lagos, Archbishop Samson Mustapha Benjamin, has advised Nigerians not to allow themselves to be swayed by money.

He however advised that they should vote whoever they believe can turn the fortunes of the country around for the better.
The cleric, who spoke during a rally in Lagos on Saturday, maintained that if the politicians woo the people with money, they should collect such, but should still vote their choice.

He stressed that the money being thrown around by politicians is part of the collective commonwealth.

“If they give you money collect it, because, it is your own; it is our money, but go and do the right thing; vote your mind”, he said.

He added that for Nigeria to be transformed to greatness, the electorate must vote wisely in the coming election.

Benjamin and members of his church also canvassed for the election of a Christian as the next governor of Lagos State, noting that for years the Christians have been denied the position in a state that is a mixture of the two dominant religions of Christianity and Islam.

They commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for nominating a Christian as its flag bearer and advised the People Democratic Party (PDP) to follow suit for the sake of justice and equity.

“We are very particular about this because Lagos State has been ruled by Muslims for 16 years; and do not forget that Christian leaders from the highest to the lowest, have been clamouring for a Christian governor.

“I think that is why APC has produced a Christian candidate and we are advising the PDP to also do same by calling on other contestants who are not Christians to honourably withdraw from the contest.

“Not that they don’t have the constitutional right to contest; but, so that we can have a level playing ground in Christian versus Christian from both sides and the more popular candidate emerges”, the cleric stated.

He cautioned that if PDP does not heed the advice, it may not make any significant impact in the election.

His words: “If a party that has been ruling for 16 years can produce a Christian candidate, we want the PDP to also do so; or else, it may not to go anywhere. Let the primaries be purely for Christians in the party”.

The cleric also solicited re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying he meant well for Nigeria and that with additional four years, the country would take its rightful place in the comity of nations.

He bemoaned the level of insecurity in country and advised all Nigerians to join hands with the government to solve the menace.

The rally, which took off from the church premises in Alakija, Lagos and moved to Badagry Expressway, was supported by various groups, including Nigeria Liberal Muslims; Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos; National Markets Association Leaders and Igbo Youth Movement, among others.
